So many times, as Christians, we judge our spiritual maturity by the amount of time we’ve been saved. From this perspective, a believer must be saved for years to be considered “spiritually mature”, but that’s not biblical. Spiritual maturity is determined by hunger and obedience, not time. Additionally, there is no junior Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit that infills a 40 year old adult is the same Holy Spirit that infills an 8 year old child. Both have the ability to operate in the gifts of the Spirit and in partnership with the Holy Spirit because there is no junior Holy Spirit.
Today’s Verse
Matthew 19:13-14 – “Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.”
Reflect
- What is your response (or reaction) to the statement, there is no junior Holy Spirit?
- How would you asses your own personal spiritual maturity?
- Is there anything that the Holy Spirit asked you to do that you still need to obey?
- What prevents you from immediate obedience?
- How can you overcome those hurdles?
