Has life got you down? Do you need to get your hopes up?   Jesus is the ultimate bringer of hope. He can resurrect any situation or circumstance in your life and bring hope where there seems to be no hope.

Get Your Hopes Up

We can look to the Word of God, the truth, to build our faith. It’s where you can go when you need to get your hopes up. Take a moment to read through these five scriptures and notice the bold promises of hope!

Romans 5:5 NKJV – “Now hope does not disappoint….”

Romans 15:13 NIV  – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Ephesians 1:17-18 NIV – “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people“

Hebrews 10:22-23 NIV – “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.“

Colossians 1:27 NKJV – “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles. which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Fear is a common barrier that prevents many Christians from fully embracing the Holy Spirit and His supernatural work in their lives. This fear often stems from a lack of understanding or misconceptions about who the Holy Spirit is and how He operates. However, by addressing these fears head-on and seeking a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit’s role, we can experience the power of the Holy Spirit in and through our lives!

Fear of the Supernatural

One of the primary fears Christians have about the Holy Spirit is the fear of the supernatural. The idea of miracles, signs, and wonders can be intimidating, especially the power of the Holy Spirit. This hurdle has led some to shy away from seeking the Holy Spirit’s work in their lives. However, it’s essential to remember that the supernatural is a natural part of who the Holy Spirit is.

Fear of Losing Control

Another fear that Christians may have about the Holy Spirit is the fear of losing control. The Holy Spirit is often associated with moments of intense emotion or spiritual experiences that can feel overwhelming. However, it’s important to understand that the Holy Spirit works in a way that is gentle and respectful of our boundaries. He invites us to participate in His work but never forces Himself upon us.

Overcoming Fear And Tapping Into The Power of The Holy Spirit

To overcome these fears, we must first seek to understand the nature of the Holy Spirit. He is not a force to be feared, but the third person of the Godhead. By looking to the Word of God and hearing the testimonies of other believers, we can gain a clearer understanding of who the Holy Spirit is, how He works, and how we can connect with Him as our Helper (John 14:16-18) in our daily lives.

Ephesians 1:13 NIV – “….When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit”

He is the seal and a mark of God’s ownership and protection, signifying the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Understanding this truth can help dispel any doubts about the Holy Spirit’s desire to be in our lives and help guide us. 10 Verses To Strengthen Yourself In The Lord

The Word of God is powerful. It is living and active and it can divide soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12).  We can hide the Word of God in our hearts as a way to train ourselves in knowing God’s ways (Psalm 119:11).  In 1 Samuel 30:6 we see David choose to “strengthen himself in the Lord”  in a moment of distress and we can do these same.

Take some time to go through each verse. Read them out loud. Then take the part of the verse that stands out to you and turn it into a prayer of your own.

Verses For Strengthen Yourself In The Lord

Psalm 25:1 – In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.

Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Exodus 14:14 – The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Psalm 139:1 – You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.

2 Corinthians 10:4 – The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Romans 5:5 – And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Psalm 27:1 – The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Ephesians 1:18-19 – I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Respond With Radical Obedience

Do you struggle to obey the Word of God? How do you respond when the Holy Spirit nudges you to do something? When we understand that the Lord is FOR us and not against us it makes it easy to respond with radical obedience.

Radical obedience also reveals one’s ability to trust the Lord. Trust is the foundation for intimacy and connect and lead to action. When we struggle to obey the Lord, it’s often a trust issue, more than an obedience issue.

Mary’s Example of Radical Obedience

The Word of God contains the truth of the Kingdom, how it operates, and provides instruction for how to live an abundant life. Let’s look at the life of Mary and her radical obedience to a supernatural request:

Luke 1:26-28 NIV – “In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you….36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be as you have said.” Then the angel left her.“

3 Prayers For Heavenly Wisdom

Prayer is a powerful weapon in the Kingdom of God. There isn’t anything you can’t pray about or ask for. Hebrews 4:16 holds an important promise, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Here the Word of God reveals that we can approach God’s throne, His presence, with confidence. Here are three prayers that you can approach the throne of God with asking for Heavenly wisdom:

Wisdom Without Limit

James 1:5-7 NIV – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”

Wisdom is available to you anytime you need it. James 1:5 spells out this promise with the simple encouragement to “ask God” for it. Matthew 7:7 is another promise, “Ask and you will receive…” You can take it to the bank. When you ask, you will receive. Thus, combining the two promises, when you lack Heavenly wisdom and ask for it, you will receive wisdom!

Let’s Pray: Father, I ask that you would give me wisdom from above as I approach every relationship, situation, circumstance, and obstacle in my life. Help me to know what You would do and act upon it. Let my life bring You glory, amen.

The Gift of Wisdom

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NIV – “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.1 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.”

The Holy Spirit lives inside of every believer (Ephesians 1:13). He also gives gifts to each person. One of those gifts is the gift of wisdom. This supernatural gift provides access to Heavenly wisdom that is beyond understanding. The wisdom Solomon displayed great wisdom when judging who was the mother of the baby (1 Kings 3:16-28). This is a perfect example of Heavenly wisdom on display and it is available to you too!

Let’s Pray: Lord, thank You for giving me the mind of Christ (verse). I ask now for Your wisdom to permeate my heart, soul, and mind. Let my life reflect the wisdom of Heaven, amen.

Overcoming Roadblocks

Life, and the enemy, like to throw us curve balls sometime. Here is a prayer to help you overcome and step into wisdom:

Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Show me the way over roadblocks and into wisdom. Reveal truth that will set me free. I willining receive the abundant life You purchased for me on the cross, amen.

Joy To The World The Lord Has Come

We are in the full throws of the Christmas season and we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  There are so many memories that come flooding in reflection of this season – Christmas Eve services, hot chocolate, family, and more. Just like the carol declares, joy to the world the Lord has come! We celebrate the greatest gift, Jesus Christ, our Savior!

Finding Joy

Life can be hard sometimes. Many experience conflict at work, distressed marriages and relationships, financial struggles, and the list goes on. But regardless of what you might be facing this Christmas season you can find joy in Jesus. Jesus is watching and waiting for your heart to turn towards Him. He longs to fill you with His joy!

You can truly sing the words, joy to the world the Lord has come, because it is His joy that can be your strength (Nehemiah 8:10). It’s not strength that you have to muster up, it’s His strength and He wants to give it to you.

When your life is hard will you lean into His joy to find strength?

Keeping Your Joy Alive

Remember the fruit of the Spirit? One of those is joy.  A few years ago I was on a flight to somewhere, I don’t remember where I was headed, spending some time with the Lord. He was encouraging me in a few areas and then said something that caught me a little off guard. ”

Lord: “You’ve done a good job culitivate the fruit of the Spirit in your life, but you need to work on joy.”

Me: “Ok”

I didn’t know how to start cultivating joy in my life. I would have already done it if I knew how, but I accepted the Lord’s invitation that day. Two years later I’m still on a journey learning how to grow the fruit of joy in my life, but I’ve made progress.

What can you do today to begin cultivating the fruit of joy in your life? It doesn’t have to be complicated.

True joy to the world will come as believers grow in the fruit of the Spirit!

Finding Rest For Your Weary Soul

Do you need to find rest for your weary soul? What led to your weariness in the first place? These are important questions to ask ourselves; especially in seasons like Christmas where our lives can get so busy. We weren’t created to be on all the time and go, go, go like the energizer bunny.  Contrary to the ways of the world, we are actually called to rest like God did on the seventh day.

Digging Into The Word

I love how the Bible provides all kinds of stories that are relatable.  Sarah tried to fulfill the promise in her own strength. Peter got angry. Jesus wept. Today I want to share some encouragement from Isaiah 40:28-31,

“Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.“

Are you tired or weary? The Christmas season is a joyful one, but can often turn into a whirlwind of business and exhaustion if we let it.

…but you can find rest for your weary soul by putting your hope in the Lord!

‘Tis The Season For Moving Forward

With just a few days left of 2023, it’s often a time to reflect and then focus on your goals moving forward into the new year. We ask ourselves questions like…What do I want to accomplish in 2024? What is the Lord saying prophetically over my next year.  Thus, as the calendar page flips dreams of promises fulfilled are at the forefront of our minds.

The Great Exchange

Every time Jesus asks us to give something up, He always gives us something better in return. I like to think of it as a divine exchange.  He knows us and wants the best for us.  Jesus even spent three years traveling and teaching the ways of the Kingdom so that we could live the abundant life.

Isaiah 61;1-3 NIV – “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

When He invites us into moving forward in our lives that often requires letting go. However, you don’t have to worry because you’re about to get an upgrade!

  • How would you like to move forward relationally, spiritually, financially, or in your career?
  • Is there anyone or anything in your life that you need to let go of to move forward?
  • Are there any boundaries that you need to put in place to move forward at – work, relationships, etc.?
  • What is your next step forward?

What Does The Bible Say About Trusting God?

When we’re facing a challenge, it’s easy to fall into one of two traps: We can either give up hope and lose faith in God or become fearful and doubt His promises. Both of these reactions are wrong, but they can be hard to avoid. Fortunately, there is a third way—we can trust God!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

He is with you!

We are also told, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 ESV

We are reminded that we are never alone when we trust in God. He promises to always be with us—and even if a situation looks dark or hopeless, we can trust Him to see us through it.

Trust God

God is the only one who can truly help us through the obstacles that life throws at us. He has promised to be with us always, and He never breaks His word. That’s why we need to trust Him completely and depend on Him for everything—even when we don’t understand what’s going on around us!
