The Great Commission serves as the foundation of the Christian mission and underscores the importance of embracing the call to go and send.
What Does the Bible Say?
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
The call to go and make disciples is a mandate given to every believer, regardless of background or vocation. It is a call to step out of our comfort zones, engage with people from all walks of life, and share the transformative message of the Gospel. Whether it’s across the street or across the globe, every believer is called to be a witness for Christ, shining His light in the darkest corners of the world.
Furthermore, the call to send is equally vital in fulfilling the Great Commission. Not everyone is called to physically go to the mission field, but everyone can play a part in sending those who are called. Through prayer, financial support, and practical assistance, sending churches and individuals enable missionaries to carry out their ministry effectively. As Paul writes in Romans 10:15, “And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”
The importance of going and sending for missions cannot be overstated. It is through the obedience of both goers and senders that the Gospel continues to spread to the ends of the earth. As we heed the call to go and make disciples, we must also embrace the responsibility of sending others to do the same. Together, we form a global network of believers, united in purpose and committed to advancing the kingdom of God.
In the words of Isaiah 6:8, “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.'” May we respond to the call to go and send with the same fervor and obedience, knowing that the harvest is plentiful and the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37). Let us go forth in faith, confident that He who has called us is faithful, and He will accomplish His purposes through us. Amen.
