There are a lot of things I realize while trekking, but the one that I probably won’t forget is that it is somehow the same with my everyday journey with God.
1. The journey is not always steady
Sometimes the trail is plain, other times it’s steep. It can be very slippery, but the soil can also be dry. It is the same with my journey with God. Life is not always easy and free from problems. Sometimes it is so hard to go on and it is so tempting to stop. It can be very challenging and there’s often a point where I just want to lie on the ground and give up.
But I don’t, which leads me to my second point…
2. The journey is not meant to be traveled alone
I don’t give up simply because I know I’m not alone. It is reassuring for me to know that I am not taking this journey alone. I have friends who have got my back – reassuring me that they are there for me, and I have others in front of me, ahead of me telling me what to avoid. And of course, being the supportive Father that He is, I can see in my heart that God is cheering me on.
I’ve met a lot of beautiful people (inside and out) along the way and they added colors to my journey. They lessen the weariness I felt with their witty (sometimes corny) jokes and endless wisdom in different ways.
So if you feel like you are all alone right now, let me tell you that it is a lie. Anchor your heart with God’s promise that says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
3. The journey requires rest
I learned to appreciate the importance of rest in every journey that God wants me to take. It’s not a sign that I’m weak, but it is an indication of a willing soul and spirit who is ready to endure, looking forward to what’s ahead with one thing in mind: FINISH THE RACE.
Overall, the trail is tiring and challenging but when I get to the top? It’s breathtaking. Fulfilling. Totally worth it.
This experience is one of the many reasons that motivates me to endure and go on with my journey with God, no matter what is happening in my life.
All in all, my greatest reward will be when God will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
