A young Hindu woman discovered her Savior in the little blue Bible of the Gideons. The Living Word of God touched her greatly, and it also influenced her whole family.

Uma Moorthy grew up as a devout Hindu in India. She would tirelessly offer sacrifices to the Hindu gods and practice every ritual and tradition. But all the while, she never had peace in her heart.
Then, she and her sisters had the opportunity to enroll in a Christian Convent School. Gideons International once distributed Bibles inside their school, which is how Uma got one.
She only read the Psalms and Proverbs because of her love for literature, but she did not understand it.
Days went on and the school organized a Bible camp for the students. Uma joined because she wanted to have fun with her friends. Little did she know she would encounter the One true God.
On the last day of the camp, a sister shared a relevant message with Uma’s group. She referred to Isaiah 44, which teaches about God as being the only God, and the idols are made from wood chiseled by craftsmen.
The sister pointed to Uma, not knowing that she was a Hindu at the time.
On that night, Uma was so embarrassed by the situation that she wanted to get back at the sister. So, she opened her Gideon Bible and read. But, as she started reading, she could not stop.
“I don’t know what happened, but the Holy Spirit just transformed me,” she declared.
She learned about Jesus and got to know Him more since then.
Uma’s family initially rejected her because of her newfound faith. But Uma persisted in prayer.
Before leaving home, she left her Gideon Bible on one of their top shelves where no one could see it. But, one day, her dad was feeling down. He looked for something on the shelves and found the Bible instead. He began to read it, and was also transformed by it.
Uma claimed that her dad had a hard time reading because of his poor eyesight. But at that moment, although the Gideon Bible had small inscriptions, her dad was able to read it clearly.
