Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might.” And so with this, I want to encourage you today and just kind of speak to you about procrastination and doing things that you have grace for.
I think procrastination is actually something that can cause a serious issue. I think sometimes we can be make light of it, but there can be even little things in our lives that we’re putting off that are really keeping us from doing more that God has called us to. It’s crazy how much a tiny little thing can actually make such a big difference because we’re putting it off.
And so, I have a little trick. So, something that I have found that helps me a ton with getting out of a place of feeling like I’m avoiding something. And what it is, is attaching to something that I have grace for in the moment. So what I want to ask you is, what do you have grace for? So say, you know, you’re watching this. Say, you’re, you know, you’re laying in bed, you’ve got a nightstand next to you, and it’s a little bit messy. And then you also have some papers in the living room that you know you need to file. Okay. Well, what do you have grace for at the moment? Maybe one thing that you can do is start to clean off that bedside table. And something that my mom tells me all the time is that, “An object in motion stays in motion.”
So sometimes we just need a new technique. Because what I’m saying here, is that actually putting those things off, you know, even the Word will talk about how it’s really a big issue. So something I just want to encourage you with is just get in motion. What is it that you have grace for right in this moment? Do that, and just keep doing things until you actually naturally approach the things that you have been putting off.
Sometimes we can build a big case against it and it feels like a big thing, but if we can work our way up to it, if we can have grace with ourselves and say, “Oh, well, what can I actually practically do right now?” Instead of like looming on myself about this thing that I’m not doing. Another verse that I would like to share about this is Proverbs 10:4, “A slack hand causes poverty, but the rich hand of the diligent makes rich.” And so I want to encourage you as well. I mean, this really does flow into our finances. When there are things that we keep putting off and putting off and putting off and avoiding. And exercising procrastination towards it really actually has a practical consequence in our lives.
But, I do believe that the antidote to that is doing what you have grace for in the moment and producing just a little bit of momentum, a little bit of momentum, and then let yourself naturally approach that thing. And then you will have faith and you’ll have strength to know that you can overcome those things that feel like big things in your life. So I bless you today with grace to start with a little, build some momentum, so that you can really do the things that God has called you to.
