Today, as we celebrate “VE Day” and the 75th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany. Sometimes we forget that this great victory wasn’t won by generals and political leaders alone…but by the sacrifice of millions of men, women, and children as they each did their part to defeat the greatest evil the world had ever known.
For my grandparents’ generation, beating Nazi Germany and ending the Holocaust would always be the greatest thing they’d ever do. Sure, they all told their “war stories”, but most never spoke about the real sacrifices they made – the family members they lost, the struggles they had, the terrible cost of it all. But they did it anyway.
Jesus’ Sacrifice
On the night before He died, Jesus gathered His friends in a small upper room. The religious leaders of the day were searching for him. They couldn’t allow this “teacher from Galilee” to upset their status quo.

But Jesus knew what He had to do. What ONLY He could do. As He wrestled with the reality of what was about to happen, Jesus knew His Father could send a legion of Angels at any time to set Him free.
But He also knew that if He did that WE WOULD ALL DIE IN BONDAGE, and spend an eternity in a devil’s hell. Now, with one terrible sacrifice, Jesus could defeat satan ONCE AND FOR ALL. But it would cost Him His life.
Your Sacrifice
“For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.” – John 15:13, The Passion Translation
What is the sacrifice the Lord is asking you to make at this time? And if you’ll do it, what difference will it make in your life, and the lives of others?
Our grandparents did it. And look what they achieved.
In Recognition Of VE Day
A new video from Make Jesus Known tells a generational war story that was passed down to reiterate the bravery, integrity and courage by all those who fought in the war and are serving in the armed forces today. The video uses this family tale to be able to illustrate Jesus death in a really simple and relevant style.
