In a multi-agency operation spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 46 men were arrested over the span of 11 days in Southlake and Frisco Texas.
The operation coincided with the Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign – a national public awareness campaign designed to educate the public, law enforcement and other industry partner to recognize the indicator of human trafficking and respond appropriately.
Referred to as “Operation Demand Suppression”, law enforcement set up solicitations for prostitution online. Meetups were arranged at the Hilton at Southlake Town Square and coordinated with the cooperation of hotel management and staff between law enforcement.
When the men arrived, they were arrested. Now that solicitation of prostitution is a felony in Texas, those committing these crimes face much harsher punishments, including two years in state prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
The Texas prostitution sting in North Texas shocked many as those arrested include a youth pastor and public school teacher.
Lamarcus Strickland, a 35-year-old father of three and youth pastor for First Priority of America was among those arrested.
“There’s a lot of misconceptions about the people that consume this,” said John Perez, Supervisory Special Agent for HSI Dallas in an interview.
