Lauren Daigle Surprises Young Christian Contestant On American Idol Audition

Popular Christian artist Lauren Daigle surprised a young Christian contestant during her audition at American Idol.

The 20-year-old Megan Danielle grew up close to her grandfather Chuck, he was the most important person to her. It is her grandfather who always urged her to use her singing talent to glorify God. However, a year ago, her grandfather passed away. It was then that she decided to use her talent for the Lord and became a Christian singer.

“There was one show I had one night, and my papa was there, and he pulled me to the side and said, ‘what are you doing baby? This isn’t what you’re supposed to be doing.’ He looked me dead in the eye and said, ‘how can you sing for God and sing for this?’ And then I finally decided to totally switch to Christian music,” Megan recalled.

On this season of American Idol, the young singer who works as a waitress wanted to bring her faith to the entertainment industry. During her auditions for the singing contest, she sang “You Say” by Lauren Daigle. What she didn’t know is that a great surprise awaits her.

The well-known Christian singer came to the studio to witness her performance. While she was singing the chorus of the song, Lauren entered the room and sang with Megan. Everyone was surprised and amazed by their beautiful duet. The young artist gave thanks to the Lord for the surreal moment.

“Thank you, I love you. I feel like this is not even happening. I’d like to thank You, God,” Megan said.

While pop artist Katy Perry commented on Megan’s performance, Lauren learned that her grandfather’s name was Chuck. It was like a divine appointment as Lauren’s grandfather’s name was also Chuck.

“Well, you know God has a sense of humor every once in a while,” Katy, who is a pastor’s daughter, replied.

The aspiring Christian singer received positive feedback from all the judges and went through the next round.

In America’s Got Talent: All-Stars season this year, an astounding contender joined the group. She is Vitoria Bueno, a ballet dancer from Brazil. She’s not your ordinary ballet dancer because she dances with grace and elegance, even without arms.

In the short clip about her story that the show aired before she performed, Vitoria was born with a genetic defect. Hence, she had no arms since birth. But even then, her mother noticed that little Vitoria loved dancing as a child. That’s why she enrolled her in a dancing class as early as five years old. Since then, she has grown in her passion as a ballet dancer.

Pursuing Dream

Since then, Vitoria never allowed her condition to stop her from chasing her dreams. She also attested that she lived a normal life despite having no arms. The disability never disheartened her. Instead, she learned to live with her situation and do basic things using her feet.

Then one day, Vitoria decided to join a Got Talent show in Brazil, of which she came in second place. Later on, America’s Got Talent invited her to join the show for its All-Stars season.

Then finally, the day came for Vitoria to showcase her talent on the international stage of America’s Got Talent. She danced to the song of Lauren Daigle’s “You Say.” And as the AGT judges and audience watched, almost everyone felt emotional. Then she ended her beautiful performance with a mesmerizing ballet that stunned everyone.

Judge Howie Mandel commended her ability to balance in ballet dancing even without arms.

“We didn’t even see a second of faltering, it’s amazing! The amount of strength and elegance,” he said.

Judge Heidi Klum also told her, ‘You are beautiful, you have so much poise, so much of elegance. It was so beautiful to watch.’

‘Never Enough’ Singer Joins BGT And Sings ‘You Say’ By Lauren Daigle On Semi-Finals

One of Britain Got Talent’s Golden Buzzers, Loren Allred, sang a unique version of Lauren Daigle’s biggest hit song, “You Say” in the semi-finals and received a standing ovation.

When Loren Allred joined Britain’s Got Talent, some critics accused her victory of being “a fix,” according to Daily Mail’s report. The controversy arose because she had already made a name for her hit track “Never Enough” and “has secured a record deal” before joining the show.

But during the Semi-Finals, Simon Cowell defended Loren, saying she deserves “a second chance.” Further, the co-judge of BGT, Alesha Dixon, agreed and said Loren had the right to be on the show “just as anyone else.” But she also noted that the singer had to “work harder to prove herself.”

Golden Buzzer

Loren received a Golden Buzzer in her first audition at Britain’s Got Talent singing her own famous track, “Never Enough.” Then during the semi-finals, she performed a unique and beautiful version of Lauren Daigle’s biggest hit song, “You Say.”

The Christian artist’s “You Say” is about one’s secured identity in the Lord regardless of the lies whispering to you. It’s a song reminding and declaring who we are in Jesus, that we are who God says we are.

When Lauren wrote the song, she explained how the song always reminded her of the truth “every single day.”

“When I feel inadequate how is it that there are always these moments. Where I feel like God just steps in and supersedes my inadequacies,” she explained. “This entire song was so every single day I would get up on stage and remind myself. No, this is the truth, this is the truth, this is the truth.”

Incredible ‘You Say’ Performance

With the song’s powerful lyrics and beautiful melody, Loren did an incredible performance of the song. As she ended her performance on stage, both the audience and the judges were stunned and gave her a standing ovation.

Judge Amanda, who previously gave her a Golden Buzzer, also commented that she “knocked it out” again.

“What was beautiful was the song, the lyrics, the breath, the control, absolutely everything about it was astonishing,” she said.

Lauren Daigle’s single “You Say” is making history by becoming the first song to run 100 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard hot song chart.

“You Say” was a single released in July 2018 and was written and sung by Christian artist Lauren Daigle. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and then went platinum. It was also the song that earned her a Grammy Award in the contemporary Christian music categories.

“When I was a little girl, I would dream of moments like this. Upon hearing the news, I called my family. We laughed, we cried, we made jokes, we celebrated. I am so honored and want to thank all the people involved in achieving this accomplishment,” Lauren wrote on Instagram after learning of the honor.

Last week, the song broke the record by holding steady at No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart of Billboard for 100 weeks in a row. The spot was once held by Hillsong’s “Oceans (Where Feet May Fall)”. “You Say” is making history in the Christian music industry and the 28-year-old artist credits the people who worked on the song.

“My sincere gratitude goes out to them,” she added. “To be a part of a song that has not only made history but has lived inside the homes of families raising babies, widows needing comfort, teenagers needing a friend, those who have lost and those who have gained, that is a gift I’ll never fully put into words. Simply amazed that ‘You Say’ has spent 100 weeks on @billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart! Thank you ALL!!”

100 Weeks On No.1

The song has touched and inspired millions of lives. The singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson even covered the song to pay tribute to the frontline responders during the pandemic.

‘Just Sam’ Wins ‘American Idol’ After Singing Christian Anthem ‘You Say’ With Lauren Daigle

Samantha Diaz, known as Just Sam, was the contestant who boldly asked the judges to pray with her during her audition. It was a heartwarming moment as they all held their hands and bowed their heads to pray.

“So repeat after me,” Sam told the judges. “Heavenly Father, Lord make my life brand new right here, right now, with my friends and my new fam.”

The subway singer showcased her faith throughout the competition until the finals. On the final episode of the TV show, Just Sam returned to sing the initial piece she sang during her audition that made her tear-up. For her final song, the contender sang the Christian song “You Say” together with Lauren Daigle.

“‘You Say’ seriously speaks to my heart and I feel like that’s what brought me to tears at my audition,” Just Sam said.

Sam’s beautiful duet with Christian artist Lauren gave her the title as the “American Idol.” Right after winning, Sam’s grandmother was seen via Facetime praising God.

Just Sam also thanked Jesus publicly after her victory saying “Thank you, Jesus!”

Celebrity judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan gave Sam spiritual motivation after her powerful performance of Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger”.

“The Lord doesn’t give you more than you can handle,” Katy said to her.

“You are a wonderful, blessed, singer,” Luke added.

A young orphaned girl from Brooklyn projects who performs in the subway, Just Sam is now reaping the answers to her prayers as she held on to one of her dreams.

The final episodes of the “American Idol” was filmed virtually in their remote studios due to the situation regarding COVID-19.

Just before the year 2019 ended, Lauren Daigle made Billlboard history. Her song “You Say” remained in the #1 spot for 62 weeks on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs.

Lauren’s “You Say” stayed #1 on the chart for 62 weeks, making it the longest time a song has ranked in the first spot. “You Say” replaced Hillsong’s “Oceans” which had a 61-week record. Lauren actually references “Oceans” as her inspiration.

“I really pondered the journey of the song ‘Oceans,’ and I remember seeing the impact that song made on so many people. It was just so beautiful to me,” Lauren told Billboard.

“I hoped that I could be a part of something that shakes the earth like that song. I didn’t know that would ever happen, and I had no idea that ‘You Say’ would be something that would parallel the life of ‘Oceans,’” she recalled.

The Story Behind The Song

The 28-year-old artist revealed the story behind the hit song “You Say” through a video. 

“This song is just a reminder of identity. A reminder that, when I’m weak, He’s strong. So how do I change that and bring that into my everyday life?”

She added, “When I feel inadequate, how is it that there’s always these moments where I feel like God just steps in and supersedes my inadequacies. Awards And Recognition Lauren Received

Lauren Daigle was nominated for six Dove Awards and two Grammys in 2019. She went home with 8 awards last year, including the two Grammys. 

Lauren also opened up to Fox News on why she chose to perform Christian music.

“I have this call in my heart to reach all people. It doesn’t matter if they’re in this block, or that block, my heart is for all people to know and encounter the love of God.”

The Grammy Award-winning singer’s single made history for being at the top of the chart for 62 weeks. It surpassed Hillsong United’s “Ocean (Where Feet May Fail)” that was at the top for 61 weeks.

The Louisiana native continues to make history with her album “Look Up Child” being on top of the Top Christian Albums for its 42nd week. The album is now the longest-reigning collection on Billboard’s Top Christian Album chart.

Lauren Daigle World Tour

In 2020, Lauren will venture out on her first world tour, “Lauren Daigle World Tour”.

The tour will travel to 44 cities that will start in Melbourne, Australia on January 18, 2020, and will end in her hometown, Lafayette. The musical tour includes New York, Nashville, Houston, Boston, Dallas, and the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal.

Just this year, Lauren Daigle’s hit song, “You Say,” hit #1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart. Gary Trust of Billboard’s Chart Beat said, “The ballad is the first song to have topped both AC and Christian airplay.”

Her song, “dethrones the longest leading hit in the chart’s history: Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” after 33 weeks in charge.”

Jenny Rose Spaudo of Charisma News said, “Daigle’s music has topped Christian charts for some time, but her high ranking on a secular chart is a significant indicator of her popularity beyond Christian-music listeners. It’s the first song to make such a crossover.”

The song won a Grammy award for “Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance and Song,” in February 2019. And her album, Look Up Child, took home the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album of 2019.

In a Billboard interview Lauren, “says that her songs spread the message of hope and unity, and that given the ‘crazy times’ in the world right now, people want to have love and truth to hold on to.”

Lauren Daigle Continues To Share God’s Love Worldwide, With 2 Grammy Awards

It has been a phenomenal season of fruitfulness for leading CCM artist, Lauren Daigle as her influence has grown throughout the globe over the past few months. It’s no surprise then that she took home two awards from last Sunday’s  61st Grammy Awards.

Lauren won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for “Look Up Child,” and Best Contemporary Music Performance/Song for her “You Say.”

The Best Contemporary Christian Music Album award is an honor presented to recording artists for quality albums in the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) genre.

The nominees were:

  • Zach Williams for “Survivor: Live From Harding Prison – EP”
  • Michael W. Smith for “Surrounded”
  • Jesus Culture for “Living With A Fire”
  • Elevation Worship for “Hallelujah Here Below”

Lauren won against last year’s winner Zach Williams for her second studio album, released last year.

Best Contemporary Music Performance / Song

Lauren also won the Best Contemporary Music Performance / Song. This award is given to the artist(s) and songwriter(s) (for new compositions) for the best contemporary Christian pop, Christian rap/hip-hop, or Christian rock single or track.

She joined an impressive line-up of previous category winners for the nomination. The nominees were:

  • Lauren Daigle for “You Say”
  • For King & Country for “joy.”
  • Tauren Wells for “Known”
  • Cory Asbury for “Reckless Love”
  • MercyMe for “ Grace Got You”

Lauren Daigle’s “You Say” boosted a pop crossover success when it went on to debut at No. 3 on Billboard 200 chart. It became the highest charting Christian album by a woman in over 20 years, and No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums Chart.

“You Say” has further topped the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart for 26 weeks, tying the record for the longest reign by a woman in the chart’s history.

“This record came out of a season of realising that we’re supposed to look up,” Lauren said. “I love it that music gives us the opportunity to look up… as well as an the opportunity to spread love to the whole world, I want to thank Jesus for letting me be a part of this. putting a voice in my throat, for anybody who is involved in music, it is such a gift.”

This sweet, southern girl, Reagan Strange is only 14-years-old, but God gave her an incredible talent that will amaze you. She may be one of the youngest contestants on the famous singing contest “The Voice,” but her age hasn’t stopped her from singing this breathtaking song.

Reagan is a part of Team Adam, and as one of the Top 13 contestants, she performed Lauren Daigle’s inspirational song, “You say”. The song itself reminds us of our true identity in the eyes of God. It serves as a beautiful message especially for those who don’t know Him.

When you get to hear her sing, you will be amazed by how she glorifies God in front of a huge audience, on national television. Her voice is so powerful, it will truly touch your soul. She puts her heart into the song, and you will feel the intense emotion while she is singing.

The fact that Reagan chose to sing a worship song to compete in a singing contest is a pretty big deal. It is not just an ordinary worship song either. God used this song to remind the people He loves to recognize His real voice in spite of all the lies that we hear.

God is moving and He will use anyone to proclaim His name. The real heart of worship will be shared throughout the world, and one day, God’s worship songs will spread to the ends of this Earth.
