Retired wrestler Mr. T shared a moment where he realized that aside from being a child of God, he was nothing.
When Wrestler Mr. T Learned “Forgiveness”
Mr. T had always been vocal about his Christian faith. But one thing he struggled with was forgiveness.
“Mother always says, “Son, I know it’s the hardest thing to do is to forgive.” It is,” he said.
But by the grace of God, Mr. T learned how to forgive when he realized the prayer Jesus uttered: “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they’re doing.”
In one instance a man asked Mr. T if he could pray for his son who was diagnosed with cancer. Mr. T prayed for his son, but later on, he discovered that the man who asked him to pray was saying bad things behind his back.
God’s Conviction
“I said, “I’m gonna get that guy eventually.” wasn’t all the way sold on Jesus, I was a work in progress. I was like Peter, ready to tear the top of that guy’s ear off,” he said.
But when the man came to Mr. T and said what his family was going through, God convinced him to do something he didn’t initially want to do.

“I melted. At first I said, “Man, I ought to hit this guy coming up to me and whatnot. But the God side said, “Let him speak,”” he recalled.
Mr. T believed that his mother was one of the few people who taught about forgiveness.
“Keep believing in God, keep praying, and most importantly, she taught me to forgive,” he said.

Jesus Forgives
He also learned that if Jesus forgave, he had to forgive, too. Realizing this made him think of who he really is.
He once said, “Don’t just say, “I’m going to church on Sunday.” We are the church, and wherever we go, we’re supposed to tell people about Him.”
“When I pray I say, “Lord, I pray that when they see me, let them see you. I pray that, when they hear me, let them hear you,” he added.
Of course Mr. T received a fair amount of compliments and flattery. But having known Jesus, his constant response is: “I just thank God.”
He said, “Every time somebody tries to ego-stroke me, I say, “I just thank God.”
Wrestler Mr. T: “I Used To Think I Was Something”
“Like if someone says, “Hey, Mr. T, you’re looking good,” I thank God. I used to think I was something. I know I’m something now, I’m a child of God,” he added.
Furthermore, acknowledging God’s sovereignty in his life also taught him that it’s simple and easy to call on Jesus.
“Just say, “Save me, Jesus.” You don’t have to be all elaborate and all that stuff. Just say, “Help me, Jesus. I want to change, help me.” And you gotta be sincere with it. … Some people are so used to con and tricking people, they think they can play games with God. But God knows your heart, He’s waiting on you to come to him. Humble yourself,” he said.
