A businessman shares how the Holy Spirit led him to a divine appointment with a broken and lost man at his workplace.

God in the Workplace

Greg Catalano, a businessman, testified about how the Holy Spirit moved in his workplace. One Friday afternoon, Greg was getting ready to close and leave the office when a man walked in and was looking for a job. He sat down and talked about what he did for a living. While listening to the man, the Holy Spirit began to flow through Greg. “I started speaking into his life and just telling him things of what. Never met the guy before. And just started to speak to him about what God wanted for his life,” he shared.

Suddenly, the guy jumped out of the chair and left his office. He thought he offended the man because he said personal things that only God would know. Then, Monday morning came, and Greg realized what the Holy Spirit had done.

Divine Appointment

God had led him to a divine appointment. The man came back to Greg’s office and began to weep. “He says you have no idea what’s been happening in my life. He says my business has fallen apart. My partner robbed everything from me, and He said I did a terrible thing,” Greg recalled. The broken man put a hit out to have his partner killed, and after he heard the word that Greg shared, he was immediately convicted to cancel it.

“God intervened in the workplace at that moment on a Friday afternoon, going home from work, and changed that man’s life forever,” he testified. Greg stayed connected to the man, and they even did business together.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

This is also what “Thrive Teaching” ministry is doing in their post, as they offer eight ways to represent Jesus in the workplace.

“You may be the closest thing to Jesus that people in your workplace may encounter,” the ministry wrote. “We are Christ’s representatives everywhere we go, especially in our jobs.”

8 Ways How To Represent Jesus In The Workplace

They gave eight simple ways to show others who Jesus is “without being ‘weird Christians.’”

“Let’s be the best example of Jesus to everyone we interact with in our day to day,” Thrive Teaching remarked. “And let the love and light of Jesus shine through us.”

So, here are some eight ways to represent Jesus in the workplace by the power of God’s grace and His Holy Spirit.

1. Operate in Integrity
2. Don’t complain
3. Be honest
4. Do things with excellence
5. Serve or add value to others
6. Be diligent or consistent
7. Pray for those you work with
8. Conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the Gospel

God is always with you wherever you are, even in your workplace and in your business.

God At Work

In an episode of God At Work with host Rich Marshall and guest host Jim Harris, JD Cobb shared how he felt God’s presence as he started his company. The young businessman is the founder of JD Cobb Productions that offers full-service videography. They specialize in high-end wedding films and commercial content.

Before starting his career in videography, JD was pursuing a professional career in golf. However, God led him to start his videography company. In his journey, the graduate in Broadcast Journalism has relied on God every step of the way.

“God is a relational God,” JD said. “He is going to be there with you every step of the way and He will give you that vision at the very end to help you push towards it. But, whenever we are walking by faith, that’s all I’ve been able to do since I did start my video production company, and as you walk by faith, it’s like I can’t do that unless I’m talking to the Lord every single day.”

The young CEO feels the presence of God wherever he may be. He has felt His presence while he was still playing football and as he transitioned into being a videographer.

“God is so much better than we think He is. So, if He really is a good God, He wants to spend time with you when you’re on set, or when you’re behind the camera, or when you’re on the golf course. Those are the things that I really take to heart,” he recalled.

Workplace

“God, you’re literally right here with me. I don’t feel like I have to always go into my prayer closet in order to hear an answer. I can just talk to Him right now, get an answer, and just go on.”

Know that God is always with you wherever you are, even in your workplace. You can call unto Him anytime, anywhere. So if you are making a life-changing decision right now, rely on Him and let Him guide you on which way to go.

Do You Treat Others Fairly in the Workplace?

Fair Treatment in the Workplace

Are you a leader or aspiring to be one? Perhaps you are studying and learning all you can about being a leader. By now though, you have probably seen that character matters most. If we watch or read the news frequently we will see leaders falling. Perhaps due to morality and character flaws. But the principle is true: what is done in secret will be announced from the rooftops.

That is why it is very important that we are the same person in public that we are in private. What our employees see in the conference room is what they see in the hallways of our businesses and at corporate events. If they visit our homes, they may see a different side of our lives. But our character traits need to be the same everywhere we are.

The Golden Rule from Matthew 7:12 is True

Jesus said, “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. For this sums up the Law and the prophets.” How we treat others shows how we will be treated.

As leaders, if we treat our peers or employees under us well, then they will treat us well. If we disrespect them or try to rule them with an iron fist, chances are they will disrespect us or soon quit. People are more prone to stay at businesses where they are encouraged, equipped and empowered. Thus, we must treat everyone fairly.

The Principle of Sowing and Reaping

Farmers understand the principles of seedtime and harvest. If a farmer sows sparingly they will reap a small harvest. When a farmer gives their work 100% effort, they will reap an abundant harvest. If a gardener doesn’t take care of their plants, not watering them or fertilizing them, and doesn’t take out the weeds, then they will collect few fruits and vegetables.

Speaking Up for the Voiceless

But not only will we be treated well or fairly by taking care of those we have authority over, but also when we speak up for the voiceless. An ancient proverb says, “Leadership gains authority and respect when the voiceless are treated fairly.” The voiceless may be the entry-level employee. Or perhaps the homeless. When was the last time your job took a few hours volunteering to serve people affected by natural disasters. Or teach people who just got out of jail how to write a resume?

Maybe that’s a new idea for you, but the truth is, when you serve the voiceless, by treating others fairly, your leadership becomes more respected. People see that you are not in leadership for yourself. By treating others fairly and serving the voiceless, more people will be attracted to your leadership capabilities. And you’ll help those who are less fortunate get a hand up in life.

How Much More Successful Would we be if we Were Diligent at Work?

Diligence doesn’t rely on talent but on commitment

Diligence seems to be a word we don’t hear or use much these days. According to the dictionary diligence is defined as, “careful and persistent work or effort.” An expanded definition of ‘diligence’ stating, “Steadily persevering, painstaking effort, constant in effort to accomplish something.”

A website I found said this, “Diligence means that we are continually working toward our goals, making use of what resources and opportunities are available. We are vigilant to avoid errors and to stay focused on the task at hand. Our diligence provides a basis for people trusting us with jobs that are tricky or complicated and also important to them.”

It further stated, “Diligence does not rely on talent, but employs commitment, industry and perseverance to transform vision into reality.” With these definitions in mind I ask myself, am I being careful and persistent with my work? Diligence is a character trait needed in today’s work force.

Are We Diligent?

Are we diligent to be on time? Are we making the most of company time, accomplishing our tasks? As an employee, our diligence rewards us. Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Thus, if you are diligent, you and your company will profit from it.

That may mean that your company makes more money but also that you get a raise. Perhaps the quality of your work place improves or your company parties take it to the next level compared to the year before. Your diligence benefits everybody.

But also, not only will you and your company profit from persistent effort, but your soul will profit as well. The soul is your mind, will and emotions. Our soul is affected by our work. We can be anxious because of work and this affects us. If our thoughts are consistently about a family member who may not be doing well, our soul is not at peace.

Proverbs 13:14 says, “The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” That means if we are diligent with our work and tasks at hand, our soul is rewarded. Our quality of life is improved and our self-esteem is boosted. Our soul is richly rewarded by our diligence.

I think this is including when we get all our daily work done in our allotted time, we can leave our work and go do extra activities. Like going to the gym or seeing a movie. Our mind is not distracted because our tasks for the day are completed.

We can focus on spending time with friends or family. But if we are temporarily separated from our friends and family for a time due to work, such as a deployment, we will make the most of our time with them upon returning home.

We will enjoy life more if we are diligent. Will you make a commitment today to be more diligent with your work? You will profit and your soul will be at peace with your diligence.

Do You Have Integrity in the Workplace?

Integrity in the Workplace

Integrity is defined as, “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles and uprightness.” Integrity is something I have been contemplating on quite a bit lately. At times, it may seem, that fewer people have integrity. I have walked onto business locations to meet new employees. And within a few weeks those new employees are fired or left due to integrity violations.

As a business owner, I will look at myself before I make a decision in firing someone. If it is an integrity issue, such as multiple excuses for being tardy or late, I will see if I set the example. But, because of my previous military background, I am usually early or right on time.

Besides consistent tardiness to report in to work, employees can lack integrity with how they use company time. Too many people are spending too much time on social media during work hours. If we are on company time we need to not be on social media, unless it’s allowed during breaks.

The Cost of Lacking Integrity in the US Workforce

One study shows that within the USA, calculating all the time employees spend on social media during work hours, it’s a loss of 15 billion dollars. The study shows that up to 8 hours a week at work is spent not working. But instead employees are on social media, playing mobile games, using apps on cell phones and shopping online. Unless our company allows this behavior, we are wasting money for the company we work for and lacking integrity

Proverbs 10:9 says, “People with integrity walk safely. But those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall.” We can learn a lot from wisdom literature. And applying the values to our lives and business dealings. It is amazing that people from thousands of years ago understood this principle!

We Must Be People of Integrity

We need to be people of integrity. Doing what we say we will do. And being productive within our roles at work. But we also need to surround ourselves with like-minded people.

Who we as leaders surround ourselves with determines the productivity of our company. People lacking integrity lower productivity. And if people lack integrity, I can’t surround myself with then nor make excuses for them.

Also, if I continue doing business with people lacking integrity, then I will lose business. Other companies will contract elsewhere because of those we surround ourselves with. And word will spread that we lack integrity. If this happens, we will find ourselves in the unemployment line quickly. But if we walk with integrity, we will walk safely and benefit with promotions.

6 Ways To Win Souls at Work

Spreading The Gospel in the workplace is easier than you may think. Every day, you are a living example of The Bible coming to life simply by your very presence in the workplace. Here are a few simple and intentional ways to share The Gospel:

1. Take up the challenge

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise.” ‭‭(Proverbs‬ ‭11:30‬)

He who wins souls is wise. Remember God draws the hearts of men and it’s our job to point people back to Him. Soul winning is a process and takes time. Sometimes, our most effective witnessing tool is our lifestyle. According to Proverbs 11:30, our life is a message of hope and light that both reflects and is a representation of Christ. Soul Winning is a continual process that takes patience, wisdom and grace handling. Many times we ask God for a large global platform in order to spread His Gospel, when in reality our everyday local community and workplace is filled with a harvest that’s ready and ripe to reach. Colleagues, peers, coworkers and family members can be influenced over time simply with everyday encounters.

2. Be an example

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:16‬)

Sometimes, you may be the only believer in your place of business. Sometimes it may feel like you are in the den of lions. In this season, it’s important to know that God has you positioned in your place of employment for a purpose. If you don’t understand your season or it’s purpose then simply ask God. Simply reach out to God and ask Him what’s your purpose in the place where you are planted. Then ask God for the wisdom to handle yourself as He wishes while you’re placed there. Your character (work ethic), integrity, patience, and diligence reflects the heart of Christ. Sometimes, you are the only Christian that others see and have access to. Your response in moments of adversity is a reflection of your maturity level in Christ. What’s your response when faced with a character or moral dilemma or issue? Maybe God is using you to reach those who are deemed “unreachable”. Set your heart to be a sheep who is full of wisdom, wise as a serpent but harmless as a dove. Set your heart to crucify your flesh and reflect the Love of God in every situation.

3. Operate in wisdom

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:7‬)

Handling yourself with wisdom in the workplace is critical. ‭‭According to 1 Samuel‬ ‭18:14‬, David when he was in the King’s army, under Saul’s Kingship, he behaved and handled himself with wisdom – “And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.” The Lord is with you even in the workplace and as you handle yourself accordingly remember that you’re a reflection and representation of Christ. Remember He is with you in all your dealings. Wisdom is the principal thing. Even in times of distress and uncertainty, the way you handle yourself has the opportunity to minister to others around you. Getting an understanding in the Boardroom before speaking can lead people to Christ simply by the way you handle the matter. Remember to get an understanding before making a judgment in difficult and turbulent situations. Allow God to lead your heart and mouth before you speak to others in tense situations. Winning someone’s soul to Christ can happen over time. It is your job to reflect His Love in and out of season. Examine and test your fruit. Is your fruit of Christ?

4. Stand in faith

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews‬ ‭11:1)‬

Faith over time produces harvest. As you consistently pour into the lives of co-worker, colleagues, business acquaintances, friends, and loved ones while living a life that reflects Christ, God will produce His harvest and draw people to Him by using your life as a net. Christ stated, “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matthew‬ ‭9:37-38)‬ Remember the harvest is God’s people. Handle hearts with care.

5. Pray and ask God for direction

“Now the just shall live by faith:” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:38‬)

Living by faith requires obedience, diligence, and execution. When God speaks to you and leads you to execute on certain action(s), your one step of faith can change a generation. Pray and ask God for direction. Ask God to grant you wisdom on how to minister and reflect His Love through your everyday actions, in the workplace. Whether it’s grabbing coffee with a coworker, having a listening ear to someone who’s having a rough day or even being an advocate or peacemaker for a teammate – ask God to open the door to grant you an opportunity to minister His Good News, The Gospel of Christ, with a coworker, colleague or loved one. He will open the door – Just ask.

6. Trust God for the increase

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:6‬)

We all play a different part in the Body of Christ. Every harvest is different. Every net we utilize is different. God has uniquely equipped us to reach different types of people for His Glory. He has shaped you uniquely to labor in the harvest that He has assigned to you. People are waiting. One may plant the seed, another may water what you’ve planted but ultimately God will get the increase. You may be planting life seeds by the way you conduct yourself in the workplace. People may watch your actions on a daily basis and are blessed by how you handle yourself. Remember your small action(s) today play a part in contributing to the life of God’s Harvest. Ultimately the heart of the harvest belongs to God and He is the one who gives the increase.
