A workaholic man has dedicated his time to achieving success in his career. But his success cost him his family and relationships. After two failed marriages, he finally found the greatest treasure he would never give up on, even losing his work.
Workaholic man
Joe was a hardworking person, and he loved challenges. But at the same time, he loved his family and believed that what he was doing was for their sake.
He got married and had one child. But Joe was so preoccupied with work that he had little to no time for them. It caused their marriage to fall apart, and his wife left him, bringing with her their only child.
This devastated Joe. It led him to engage more in his work and drinking problems.
Then, he met his second wife and had two daughters. But history repeated itself. His wife and daughters eventually left him again.
Joe believed, at that time, that he was not made for families and relationships. So, he worked more and became the Managing Director of an International Construction Company. But even after gaining the best things in the world, he still felt empty because he has no one to share it with.
Hand of God
Joe recalled his first experience with the hand of God. He got in a car accident where he fell into a ditch, and the car flipped upside down while the water slowly filled his car. Joe was panicking because he could not undo his seatbelt, so he finally called out to God. He said, “Really, God? Is this my story?”
But then, his seatbelt unlatched, and the water stopped at his chin level. He managed to kick one of his side windows and swam out to safety. Joe discovered he had no scratches or bruises after the horrific experience.
At that point, Joe realized that God was keeping His eye on him, but he still had no idea how to have a relationship with Him.
Soon after, Joe met a Christian woman at work. Her name was Monita. Monita was very different from all others. She didn’t seem to have any dirt, as Joe recalled.
He built the courage to ask her out, and they listed everything they wanted from their partner. Joe listed 50 things, and Monita was very accepting of them. Meanwhile, she only wrote seven items, and Joe wasn’t sure if he could achieve her last number, which is a “man who loves God.”
Jesus’ Love
His desire to know Monita led him to know Jesus as he began to join church fellowships. From then on, Joe slowly learned more about Jesus and His unconditional love.
As he began his journey as a Christian, Joe started losing what he had worked so hard for – his career, health, and possessions. But Joe finally understood that all he had lived for was meaningless. Jesus became his number one, and he could never give up on Jesus.
Today, Joe is happily married to Monita and has retired from his work to serve the people as a minister and pastor.
