Experience the awe of God in your wonder of Him today. Do you remember the last time you marveled at the goodness of God in your life? Find power in your walk with Jesus as you put on the eyes of your inner child.
Becoming seemingly thrilled about the small things is one of my favorite ways to stir up the affections of my heart toward the Lord. As I remind my mind just how unique the very moment I am in is, my heart leaps at the opportunity to wonder at God. I’ve practiced this at the grocery store, in a worship service, and during time spent with friends.
Wonder
Have you ever watched a child babble or dance at nothing? So preoccupied with their present moment, they really let themselves immerse in whatever is in front of them.
I believe taking this heart posture frees our spirit to connect with God in our mundane moments. It helps us remember just how unique our lives are. That we are merely a single person on a floating planet of gas, surrounded by millions of living organisms and species, and God talks to us intimately. In his book Crazy Love, Francis Chan writes: “Whatever God’s reason for such diversity, creativity, and sophistication in the universe, on earth, and in our own bodies, the point of it all is His glory. God’s art speaks of Himself, reflecting who He is and what He is like” (28).
Practicing child-like wonder is not about us; it really is about knowing Him richer.
Our Response
Responding to the majesty of God like a child is not about the feelings it gives you. It is how we enter in His kingdom.
“Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Luke 18:17)
