A Christian woman who lost her fiancé months before their wedding testified about God’s goodness and how she found joy amid suffering.
Woman Who Lost Her Fiancé
Michelle Milyarti Wantasen is a Christian woman who lost her fiancé, Aloysius, in a car accident months before their wedding. Due to the pain she felt, she thought she would never be happy again. She went through depression and had suicidal thoughts.
“I could not sleep. Every day, I just asked God to take my life,” she recalled. Meanwhile, she remembered that during Aloysius’ wake, she asked her godfather, who was a pastor, if she would be happy again. And he answered her, “Yes, but not just you will be happy, but you will even be happier.”
Back then, she admitted that she didn’t understand what her godfather meant. However, as days passed by, she heard from her pastors that it was possible to find joy amid suffering.
“Joy is not dependent on our situation and circumstances, but joy is a decisive decision one can make. When we choose to obey God fully and when we choose to be willing to accept our portion,” she highlighted.
Furthermore, she shared that she needed to accept that her fiancé had already gone to heaven to be with the Lord. One night, as she was driving home, she uttered a heartfelt prayer: “God, I have made my decision. I choose to obey you. And I choose to accept my portion. So help me, God. Heal me, God. I just want to be able to breathe again.”

God’s Goodness
Eventually, she felt like a river of living water gushing out from her belly. There was unspeakable joy welling up inside her. She emphasized that it was an unexplainable joy because as she looked at her situation, it seemed like nothing had changed, yet deep within, something was happening.
Moreover, two months after her fiancé died, she heard a small voice that sounded like a warm whisper in her ear that said, “Love me.” She saw a vision of two hearts with God surrounding them. Suddenly, the vision changed and turned into one heart, and God was inside it. At that moment, she realized that God filled her heart with His love.
“My God is able to turn my sorrows and pain into something good and not just good but the best for me. Although the world might perhaps see that I have lost many things… but actually, I have gained much more,” she testified.
