One night at Starbucks, God’s call drastically interrupted Wole Agbaje’s plans, leading to an unexpected turn in his life. He started wondering if ‘Jesus can satisfy’ him more than his aspirations in life.
Is it true that Jesus can satisfy you?
Wole Agbaje’s first experience in attending church was good. He liked the vibe and thought it was cool, he also liked the songs and the speakers. But other than that, he had no plans on staying for the long term. But God told him otherwise.
“I remember a few weeks later, in one of the services, I really felt like the Lord spoke to me really clearly. He said to me, ‘This is home,’” Wole recalled.
After hearing straight from God, Wole cried because he couldn’t accept it. He had prior plans and it involved not staying in England, but rather working in New York. A few months later, one of the church leaders walked up to him and said, “I feel like God wants me to offer you to intern for our church.” But Wole said that there was no way he was going to do it.
Choosing His Path
Wole once again declined, but he started having dreams about what God wanted him to do. He was horrified.
One day, after waking up from yet another dream about his calling, he got angry at God and shouted, “I don’t care what you do you can’t force me to stay in this city!”
Wole went to Starbucks to get some coffee, believing he would eventually calm down.

But a stranger approached him and said, “Why are you trying to run away? Do you know what happened to Jonah?”
“When he said that to me, I instantly just got a picture of food being pushed towards me on a silver platter. … The Lord was literally saying, ‘Here it is.’ It’s so accessible for me,” Wole recalled.
Trusting that Jesus Can Satisfy You More Than Anything
He added, “I wanted nothing to do with it because it was not what I wanted. But I knew that the Lord was making it this easy for me to step into the next thing,” Wole recalled.”
He then remembered what happened to that rich, young man in the Bible who wanted to follow Jesus. The rich young man was challenged by Jesus in Luke 18:18–23 to sell everything and follow Him. This may seem unreasonable, but only if we think that God has good plans for us and is genuinely able to provide for all of our needs.
“It was literally my aspirations for a particular career. It was, ‘Jesus, can I trust you? Do I trust that You will satisfy me more than me living the aspirations of my particular career?’ I think when I said yes or I believed He could, was what gave me the faith to lay everything else down for him,” he concluded.
