Bible teacher and video creator Tim Barnett explored 2 Timothy 4:3, which warns believers of false teachings and encourages them to endure sound teaching.
Endure Sound Teaching
Tim aims to promote sound teaching and the importance of the Word of God. In one of his videos, he reinforces his goal by highlighting 2 Timothy 4:3.
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and they will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3)
According to Tim, there is one word that jumped out to him from the passage, which he had read a hundred times already. He said, “I noticed something that I’d never noticed before.”
“The word I hadn’t noticed before was the word endure.”
Why Endure?
He explained, “Think about it: we don’t usually endure things we like. We endure things we dislike. We endure things that are hard or difficult.”
Tim went on, “We endure pain. We don’t endure pleasure.”
“This is one of the reasons why people flock to progressive pastors and prosperity preachers,” Tim said. “They’re able to lead people from the truth by offering them teaching that they won’t have to endure.”
Moreover, according to Tim, people are tempted to accept teachings they like and reject teachings they don’t like.
“Paul knew that,” he said. “And that’s why in the last letter he ever wrote, he tells Timothy to endure sound teaching.”
It is important to guard against false teachings and embrace sound doctrine found in the Word of God.
