Taya Smith Resigns From Hillsong Church

Worship singer Taya Smith Gaukrodger resigned from Hillsong Church after a decade since her hit song “Ocean” was released.

Taya started serving the Lord as a Hillsong Church staff 10 years ago. A week after that commitment, the “Ocean” tracks from the Zion (X) album came out. Last week, on the exact 10th anniversary of her hit song “Ocean,” Taya handed in her resignation to Hillsong Church. In her Instagram post, she talked about her journey coming to this season.

“I know we won’t know the full story till we get to heaven but to have heard many testimonies down here about how certain songs off this record have impacted people. Their walk with Jesus or perhaps a doorway to it, with new ones still coming in. Will always stop me, dampen my face, and break my heart open again at the way the Lord uses the very meek, ordinary, flawed vessels to reach the people He came for.”

Trusting God

As she ends this season, her heart is full of gratitude for all the things the Lord has poured out on her in the past years.

“I am walking away with some of my dearest friendships, deeper intimacy with Jesus, a conviction to always follow the voice of the Lord even when it doesn’t make sense, a million stories to tell of the faithfulness of God… and a profound recognition that nothing is ever wasted with Jesus.”

Just as her hit song “Ocean” talked about trusting God during seasons of uncertainties, Taya Smith is also trusting the Lord during this season.

“We may not know where we’re going but with You at the helm Lord Jesus, there is no fear here. We know it’s going to be good. Here’s to trusting You Jesus more utterly. For wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.”

Renowned worship singers and leaders Taya Smith and Naomi Raine performed hit worship songs ‘Jireh’ and ‘Oceans.’

Naomi Raine, a Grammy nominee, and Taya, a globally renowned vocalist, sang about their faith on ‘Fox and Friends’ Sunday ahead of their ‘It’s Time’ tour. Both are known for leading worship and singing multi-awarded songs.

The singing performances of ‘Oceans’ and ‘Jireh’ by Taya and Naomi are their most well-known works. And just last year, the duo met on a plane and announced the start of their “It’s Time” tour with fellow musicians Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Natalie Grant.

This isn’t the first time that the two have collaborated with different artists. Naomi is a part of Maverick City Music, “a group of writers and songwriters [that] come together to write music,” she said in an interview with Relevant.

For the past few years, the group has been breaking the mold of typical church bands’ expectations and limitations, and even race.

And now, Taya and Naomi have rendered a ‘Jireh’ and ‘Oceans’ mashup for the “It’s Time” tour.

Taya shared on FOX News that she wants people to feel like they are having an “encounter with God” when they come to their concerts.

“Both our lives have been changed, and we’ve had moments at similar worship nights where other people have been leading, and we’ve just been completely transformed,” she said.

Naomi also responded, “I think that more than anything, people want God. They want to see the power of God. They want to feel his power and his presence. And so what we see happening, I think, is a response to the hunger of people.”
