Former Inmate Shared How God Win Him Over

Bryce was born at Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa and grew up in Chandler, where his family lived.

“I grew up going to church. But when I stopped living with my grandparents, I didn’t have to go to church anymore, so I just pushed it aside,” Bryce shared.

As he drifted from faith, Bryce began to question whether God was real. “Rather than seeking answers, I just said, ‘Screw it. I don’t even want to deal with it.’”

In 2008, Bryce was arrested for a DUI, but at the time, he thought it wasn’t a big deal. Unfortunately, it happened again.

Former Inmate Shared How God Win Him Over After Two DUIs

While in prison, Bryce struggled with bitterness, wanting nothing to do with God. But he also hated life behind bars.

“At the end of the day, prison stinks. The food’s terrible, you can’t see your family, you have no freedom, and you’re surrounded by the worst of the worst,” Bryce recalled.

Embracing a New Life

While Bryce was still incarcerated, his sister and mother were baptized at Sun Valley Community Church. They encouraged him to attend God Behind Bars, a ministry that brings church services into prisons.

Bryce decided to go, and that first Sunday changed his life.

“As soon as I walked in, I felt understood, like someone finally got what I was going through,” he said.

Bryce continued attending the services, finding comfort not only in God’s presence but also in the community around him.

Man Who Had Traumatic Experiences Testified How He Received The Love Of God

A man who had traumatic experiences and a painful past testified about how he received the unfailing love of God.

Traumatic Experiences

John, a member of Sun Valley Community Church, shared his beautiful story of redemption. In the past, he had some traumatic experiences that he thought he had already overcome until an incident happened. He witnessed a tragic shooting, which led him to a dark season.

“It’s like lights on lights off. And I couldn’t find the switch to turn the lights back on. I was a mess,” he recalled.

After that, he tried to connect to a friend named Travis and talked with him. He shared with him the painful past that he went through. He opened up about his experience of abuse as a child that happened in a religious school. Then, Travis shared about the love that Jesus poured out for him.

The Love Of God

Furthermore, John also tried to find a therapist, but he knew deep inside that he needed something more. Eventually, his friend Travis invited him to attend the Sun Valley Community church Christmas Eve service.

“I hadn’t been in a church in years. I never thought I would be again. And I got this overwhelming fear. And I said to Travis, I remember saying, ‘I don’t think I can do this,’” John said. But then, Travis grabbed and looked at him, saying, “Nobody is going to hurt you here.”

John believed it was all he wanted to hear, so he walked in. That service changed and saved his life. It was the moment when he received the kind of hope that he didn’t realize existed.

Meanwhile, he testified, “That day that Travis agreed to meet me at the office. I’ll never forget. He said, ‘God loves you as you are, not as you think you should be.’ Or something like that. When he said that to me, I felt like I’m okay as I am, broken, damaged… And that’s when I knew something yeah this was all. I knew something spectacular was gonna happen.”

Woman Turns to New Age to Worship, But God Encounters Her

Kayleen shares her testimony about how she turned to New Age worship but was haunted by her dreams instead of being fulfilled.

Turning to New Age Worship

Kayleen has been attending Sun Valley Community Church for over a year. However, she shared that she didn’t grow up in a Christian household. They didn’t read the Bible, and her parents didn’t talk about Jesus.

“As I got older, I strayed into New Ageism and a lot of pagan things. Chakras, reiki, crystals. I was very drawn to it because I was searching for something to worship,” she said.

Kayleen spent plenty of time delving into the New Age world until she was pregnant with her son. That’s when she stopped practicing. But after that, she was never at peace because of the constant nightmares that haunted her every night.

“I started having some really crazy dreams. I was having these recurring nightmares. And I found out that my husband was also having very similar nightmares. The details were lining up in a way that it just seemed very spiritual,” Kayleen recalled.

During that time, she was not a believer in Jesus. So, she believed she needed to perform New Age practices to stop the nightmares.

“I was like, ‘I need to sage this place and do mantras.’ And I did all that, but the dreams were still happening. I distinctly remember in one where I just had a lot of fear and terror swelling up in me. Then I called out to Jesus,” Kayleen said.

Encountering God

She started casting out in Jesus’ name, and that was when the dreams stopped. It was unusual for Kayleen to do this because she didn’t believe in Jesus before. She was against Christianity.

But after what happened, she and her husband started looking for a church and eventually went to Sun Valley.

“During worship, I kept tearing up and I kept crying. I didn’t understand why. But now I know that it was the Holy Spirit working. There was just acceptance and welcoming, and it genuinely just felt right,” Kayleen recalled.

She added, “I ran in the complete opposite direction of beliefs. And He still planted seeds and said, ‘I still love you. You are still welcome home; you can still come back to Me.’”

Before long, after finding their way back home to God, the couple got baptized.

A woman who grew up in a life of poverty and a family battling addiction testified about God’s powerful restoration.

A Family Battling Addiction

Sabrina was a strong woman who struggled with poverty. She grew up without nurturing and comforting relationships, especially with her parents. Sadly, her mother and father were addicted to crystal meth, other drugs, and alcohol. As a child, she didn’t know who Jesus was. At the young age of 9 years old, she had already tried drugs and alcohol. “By the time I was 12, my parents had influenced me to try more harder drugs,” she recalled.

Because of her difficult situation, she lived inconsistently in foster homes. Eventually, she became a single mother. That’s when she realized that everything she was doing was wrong. “I just want the best for this child. And I don’t know how to give that to her,” she shared. One time, she had a bad dream that she and her daughter were washed away by a storm. She woke up in a panic and felt overwhelming fear. After that, she recognized the truth that she badly needed help.

God’s Powerful Restoration

Furthermore, she googled the nearest church to where she lived and discovered Sun Valley Community Church. She attended one of Pastor Chad Moore’s sermons and remembered him preaching about building a solid foundation with Christ. Weeks after weeks of attending church services, she began to receive the peace and love of God.

Moreover, she attended a women’s step study for 9 months and God said to her, “Think of the 9 months like a baby in a womb born new.” And that was precisely what God did in her life. He broke down every wall of shame, guilt, and everything that made her feel unworthy.

Miracles

In addition, God also gave her the chance to share Jesus with her parents. Both her mother and father received Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. In 2022, Sabrina and her daughter also got baptized. She viewed everything that happened to her and her family as a miracle.

She testified, “I think in all that pain and loneliness, Jesus was always there. When I look back on my childhood I had nobody. My hope for the future is that my daughter just continues her faith in Christ.”

Christian speaker, author, and pastor Megan Fate Marshman visited Sun Valley Community Church and shared the four predominant seasons of the soul. According to her, some people studied the seasons and realized that they were kind of parallel to the seasons of the soul. On the other hand, a group of people also discovered that every individual would find themselves in a blend of many different seasons. They acclaimed that there were four seasons of the soul.

The 4 Seasons Of The Soul

First, the season is called fall. She would represent it as a season of change.

“It’s kind of like things are changing. And so you kind of want to take a step, but you’re not really sure because things seem to be moving so fast. You don’t know where quite where to stand, but things are just changing,” she described.

The second was winter. She believed that it was the hardest season. She explained that it was cold and, oftentimes, extremely isolating. “The simple word I would put attached to the winter season is hard,” she stressed.

Then, the third was spring. This was the season where people experienced new things. These moments may be exciting for others or terrifying because they were used to the old things.

The fourth was the season called summer. For her, this was one of those crazy seasons that if people failed to acknowledge it, they would miss its gift.

“I have to tell you. I was in summer for about seven years. And no one told me about the seasons of the soul. So, I missed the gift,” she shared.

The wonderful Counselor

Furthermore, she emphasized the truth about the wonderful Counselor: “He is in every single season. And not just that, He has something for you in every season.” And what people would learn from the life of Jesus was that a person won’t be in the same season forever. After that, she encouraged the congregation to trust Him in every season of their lives.

The teaching pastor of Sun Valley Community Church, Robert Watson, shared a powerful testimony that would remind every believer about the power of prayer. When he was struggling with panic attacks, he received helpful advice from his grandmother. She instructed him to pray every time he experienced a panic attack. This practice eventually became as easy as a piece of cake for him. Of course, he would pray to God, saying, “God help me I got to get out of whatever situation is.”

He thought he would pray for his emotions to subside. However, his grandmother said, “You’re gonna pray for somebody else.” She wanted him to pray for a certain person in their ministry and the pastor he worked with. She also encouraged him to pray for their family. His grandmother reminded him to pray for somebody other than himself.

Furthermore, his grandmother emphasized, “Whenever you start having those attacks, let that be a trigger to pray for other people.” After that, Robert began to shift his focus to those people who needed help. In moments when he was overly consumed with worries about certain aspects of life, he would pray, and it began to change his perspective. He mentioned that the advice led him to experience freedom.

Furthermore, his grandmother shared that even if her advice wouldn’t help him overcome the panic attacks, she still encouraged him to pray for others. Meanwhile, people were greatly inspired by what he said. In fact, one of those who heard his powerful message said, “Love this healing message as an anxiety/ panic disorder sufferer- while you are praying and taking care of others.. God is taking care of YOU and healing YOU during the process! Me too!”
