In this sermon, Michael Todd shared 11 ways God speaks. The Bible says that His sheep hear His voice and they follow Him.

A voice from God spoke to Moses through a burning bush, and Joseph heard God’s voice in the middle of a dream. But the One who spoke the earth and the stars into being still speaks to us today. When we try to figure out who our Creator is, our lives will start to show us how He protects us. These are the ways that God will possibly use to speak to you.

11 Ways God Speaks Part I

1. God’s Audible Voice
In the Bible, God spoke audibly to a few chosen people. This includes Adam and Eve, Moses, and the succeeding prophets.

2. Angelic Visitation
One of the instances includes when angels spoke to Mary about her pregnancy.

3. Dreams and Visions
In a great number of the stories and passages found in the Bible, dreams play a significant role. They provide insight and foresight into the decisions or activities that should be taken, which could be considered favorable.

4. Signs and Miracles
It is written in Hebrews 2:4 (NLT), “And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.”

5. Coincidences
“I believe God speaks through coincidences,” Michael Todd said. “I heard Albert Einstein say, ‘Coincidences are God’s way of remaining anonymous.”

6. His Written Word
This is the main way that God speaks through His people and to those who will diligently seek Him.

7. The Living Word
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12, NIV).

8. Other People
The message that God has for us is not only communicated to us via other people, but God also communicates with us through ourselves. Therefore, it is important to maintain a state of readiness to serve as an agent for the word of God at all times.

9. Media
God uses the media to speak to people, whether it be television, social media, or written media.

10. Creation and Nature
Throughout the course of human history, people have sought out places in nature to gain a more profound understanding of the divine. After we have opened our ears to hear what God is saying to us through the things that He has created, we will discover a beautiful way to maintain communication with our heavenly Father.

11. Conscience
Michael Todd explained that“There are things that my body’s about to do, but my conscience says ‘no.’

In a sermon by Nick Vujicic, he revealed one of the things that stops people from coming to Jesus.

People From Coming To Jesus

Nick shared that doubting God’s love is what stops people from coming to Jesus.

“One thing that stops people from coming to Jesus is because they don’t believe that Jesus really loves them that much,” he said.

As a matter of fact, Nick revealed that he has  sometimes doubted Jesus’ love. He continued, “I know, that’s, like, my biggest question. ‘Why do you love me so much? I don’t get it. I don’t even love me sometimes. Sometimes, I hate me, and You still love me.'”

“Despite my sin, Jesus still loves me.”

And the same can be said for all of us. Nick emphasized, “Our Heavenly Father loves you unconditionally.”

Father’s love

When Nick became a father, it was a moment when he got a glimpse of how great the Father’s love is.

He recalled one story: “When my wife was actually pregnant with Kiyoshi, I put my foot on her belly to feel him kick. And I felt it. I was so moved in emotions. I looked up at my wife, straightened her eyes, and I had tears in mine. And I said, ‘Babe, I love him. I’d never seen him, never saw his smile, never heard his laugh. He didn’t earn my love at all before he was born. I knew him, and he was mine.”

Indeed, as the saying goes, “There is nothing you can do to make God love you more. And nothing you can do make Him love you less.”

God’s love for us is demonstrated in this, while we are still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). We don’t need to earn His love because it is freely given, but it is in believing in His love that we experience His salvation, power, and presence!

Craig Groeschel shared powerful tips to break the cycle of bad habits that are breaking your life. These tips are from his book, The Power to Change.

Pastor Craig Groeschel’s sermon about breaking a bad habit was uploaded on Life.Church’s YouTube channel: “In Pastor Craig’s new book, The Power to Change, you’ll learn highly practical, biblical, and doable strategies so you can get out of the cycle of trying and transform your life.”

The pastor shared powerful tips on how to break the cycle of bad habits. When asked why a good habit is difficult to build and why a bad one seems easy, he answered, “The reason is because the pain is now and the payoff is later. If you’re gonna have a good habit, it’s difficult now. Why is it that bad habits are difficult to break? And the answer is the reverse. Because with bad habits, the payoff is now and the pain comes later.”

With this, he shared the tips that have been proven effective.

1. Break the Cycle of Bad Habits

“Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way” (Proverbs 4:14-15, NIV).

We are always cued to something. The sound of a notification. The smell of freshly baked cookies. The sight of a moist chocolate. All these give a cue that is difficult to reject.

“Don’t even get close to that which would be harmful to your relationship with God, to your spiritual power,” the pastor said.

He also shared five common cues that many often fall into.

2. Five Common Cues

1. Places – “When you go to a certain place, you’re cued and you’re triggered to act in a certain way. If you’re wanting to eat right, you probably don’t overeat at the gym, right?”

2. Times – “There’s also certain times of the day you’re more vulnerable to certain activities. For example, if you have a battle of looking at pornography, my guess is most of you don’t look at pornography in the morning when you’re doing your YouVersion Bible app. It’s probably late at night when you’re tired, when you’re mad about something, when you’re worn down and when you need something to distract you. ”

3. Moods – “There’s a certain mood when you’re more vulnerable. HALT is the thing that people talk about in the mood. H-A-L-T, which stands for this: hungry, angry, lonely, and tired. This is when you’re most vulnerable.”

4. Moments – “There’s also certain moments where you might do the wrong thing. Like after a fight with your husband. Or after your softball game, you go out with your buddies, and you all get drunk together.”

5. People – “Finally, there’s certain people that when you’re around them, you end up doing things that you probably wish you wouldn’t do. One of the strongest tempting factors is the people that were around. Studies are conclusive that the closer you are to someone, the more likely you are to have the same habits as a person that you’re around.”

3. Interrupt the Action

You may have something you’re trying to stop, like hitting snooze multiple times in the morning. So, to interrupt the action, use an alarm clock and place your phone outside your room.

“You’re simply interrupting the flow,” pastor Craig said. “For those of you that battle with pornography on your phone, you can limit adult content. You can eliminate your ability to download any app, certain apps that might make you vulnerable. You can get rid of social media. If you can’t have one of these phones without looking at something inappropriate, get rid of your smart one and buy a dumb one. We’re gonna put that which tempts us as far away from us as humanly possible.”

4. Ask For Help

Pastor Craig ended his sermon with encouragement: “Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of wisdom.”

“For the most part, your life today is a reflection of whatever habits you had before. And for the most part, the habits you have today will shape who you become tomorrow. … Nobody plans to ruin their life and very few people do it all at once. How do they do it? One wrong decision, one wrong step, one bad habit at a time. … But God’s grace is so good. His presence is so powerful. What I want you to understand is you are not what you did. You’re not what you’re doing now. But you’ll become more of that if you don’t turn away from it,” he said.

One of the pastors of Calvary Church Bentonville, Chantry Dean, delivered a profound reminder for the new year. In his sermon entitled ‘Making Room For Tomorrow,’ he creatively demonstrated to his congregation what it looks like to carry yesterday’s burdens. This was illustrated by carrying loaded suitcases and bags while attempting to find a seat in the middle of the room. He even asked one of his members to hold his baggage.

“It may hinder your worship, but it’s okay. It may keep somebody that wants God from finding Him, but it’s okay. I’m just going to hold on to it anyway,” he said to his seatmate.

It seemed as though his luggage and bags weren’t affecting the people around him, but in reality, they disturbed them. Additionally, he demonstrated to his church members what it looks like when the worship leader asked someone who was carrying yesterday’s burdens to lift their hands and worship God. He attempted to raise the heavy suitcases with all his strength and might.

Carrying Yesterday’s Burdens

Then he highlighted, “We’re laughing, but that’s how silly some of us look… When we roll into the house of God, and we can’t even lift our hands, because we are so heavy-laden. And so burdened down with all kinds of mess and junk from ‘yesteryear,’ from yesterday.”

Furthermore, he encouraged people to unpack their baggage of loneliness, pain, heartache, loss, fear, and shame.

“What we cannot afford to carry are the things from yesterday that should have been left behind. The journey is simply too long for this, and so we have to let it go,” he explained.

“Unpack your yesterday…Let go of that bitterness, let go of that pain…Let God help you remove this from your life. Give it to God,” he shared.

Self-Control: Say No To Pleasure And Yes To Pain

Pastor Mark Driscoll shared a powerful sermon about self-control. He explained how saying no to pleasure and yes to pain can help individuals carry on with their purpose in life.

Self-Control

Pastor Mark began the sermon by talking about where pleasure and pain are in the brain.

“The way that God hardwired your brain, you have a region in your brain called the ventral pallidum. It’s a center for pleasure and pain. Literally in a very small part of your brain. All of the pleasure and pain that comes usually from your nerve endings. It goes to this center,” he said.

He added that if it’s pain, it causes you to avoid it, and if it’s pleasure, it causes you to pursue it. This is why human beings, as a general rule, run toward pleasure and away from pain.

Say No To Pleasure And Yes To Pain

In addition, Pastor Mark said that a man isn’t a fully matured adult until he can turn away from pleasure and toward pain.

“If you’re going to be a man, you’ve got to learn sometimes to run away from the pleasure and run toward the pain so that you can mature and be a man,” he said.

Because those moments of choosing between pleasure and pain are the intersections of temptations. The brain releases a chemical called ‘dopamine,’ which is very pleasurable and addictive.

He also talked about the dopamine one can get from their phones or any addiction.

“The beginning of pleasure becomes the end of self-control. And this is what the devil will do: he will tempt you with a little bit of pleasure to get you into a place where you become addicted to the pleasure,” he said.

Self-Control: Jesus Was Tempted Too

Pastor Mark added, “And then that temptation is not something that you control but it’s something that overcomes and controls you.”

He then uses Jesus’s story as an example. He reminded everyone that the enemy will always misquote the Bible to lead you to temptation.

But what Jesus did, because He knew the scripture by heart, he was able to defeat the temptations of the enemy.

“Satan knows the Bible and he knows it well enough to misquote it. And if you don’t know well enough to quote it, then what he’s literally doing is he’s taking that weapon from you and he’s using it to destroy you,” he said.

Granger Smith Learns More About Jesus By Listening To Billy Graham’s Sermons Online

Country singer Granger Smith was at the lowest point of his life when his son died. However, in this desperate situation, he learned more about Jesus through Billy Graham’s sermons online.

Acclaimed country singer Granger Smith was having a great year in 2019. It seemed like a happy family was at home because it was sold out. Until one terrible day.

“I was in the backyard with the three kids just kind of enjoying the last few moments before I head off the tour. I was playing gymnastics with my daughter and the boys were playing water gunfight,” he recalled.

When it became quiet, Granger wondered where his son, River, was.

“There he was in our pool, in the gated locked pool, in the middle, floating face down. I flipped him over and he was like a ragged doll. I panicked,” he said.

By the time the rescuers reached River, Granger and his wife Amber had already lost the battle. Their three-year-old son had passed away.

Visions

“I had this thing that I called the ‘slideshow.’ And I had these visions that would pop into my head at any moment. It’s River in the pool. It’s the ambulances screaming down that county road. And it’s the doctor walking in saying, ‘He’s not going to make it,’” Granger said.

Granger quickly found out, though, that he couldn’t just get through his pain. He tried therapy, self-help books, and meditation to stop the slideshow. Having grown up in a Christian home, he began reading Bible devotionals. However, the visions persisted. Then, a friend suggested to Granger that smoking marijuana might help him calm down. For a while, it did.

But one night on tour in Idaho, everything came to a head. Six months after River died, Granger’s band had just played two sold-out shows in a row and wanted to go to a nearby bar to party.

“I got to the bus and that’s when it hit me. When I saw the back of the bus, I thought, ‘This is the first time I’ve been drunk since it all went down.’ And as soon as I started thinking that, the slideshow popped in,” he recalled.

Granger Smith Learns More About Jesus

Granger added, “I started sobbing. I was shaking, pulled out my gun, and put the gun up to my head. That’s when I had a thought, it was outside of my own consciousness the best way I could describe it. But the thought was, ‘This is the way to rest.’ I recognized that there was an enemy speaking to me. I said, ‘Jesus, save me. Please save me.’ And the slideshow stopped.”

Granger thought of Billy Graham, so he looked for him online. He listened to more than 100 sermons over the next few weeks.

Granger played his last show on August 26, 2023. After singing for 24 years, he decided to focus on studying the Bible and sharing the love of Jesus with everyone who would listen. His family was also blessed with another child, Maverick. Granger recently finished writing a book called “Like A River,” which tells a story of loss and redemption that he hopes will bring comfort to others. Granger says that Christ gave him a new purpose and believes that we can all find healing through Him if we believe.

Recently, the author of “Crazy Love,” Pastor Francis Chan, discusses the power of a quiet life. He shares valuable lessons about remaining faithful even in the small things.

Since the 1990s, Francis Chan has garnered significant recognition as a Christian leader. He is most renowned for founding the Cornerstone Community Church based in Simi Valley, California. In 2004, he also established Eternity Bible College and is a co-author of several publications, including the New York Times bestseller “Crazy Love.”

In a recent sermon, he talks about the importance of living a quiet life, based on 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12.

“And to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we instructed you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need” (NASB)

Francis Chan said that the passion he sees from the younger generation “fired him up,” and he also wanted to remind them to be faithful in small things.

Francis Chan: “God, could we have another generation rise up that has nothing to hide?”

“And it’s out of my love for you that I’m saying you have to be faithful in the little before you can be a voice to the world. We have a lot of people clamoring to be voices, we need fewer voices and more examples,” he said.

Furthermore, the pastor talked about performing righteous deeds in secret for God to see.

In today’s culture, it is evident that more and more people are inclined towards posting and showcasing their possessions.

“This passage [Matthew 6] is saying that when we do things in secret, there’s going to be a reward. And maybe He’s not doing that many miracles in your life because He knows your motive is. ‘I want to post it. I want to do it.’ He says ‘when you pray, go into your room, shut the door, and pray to your father who is in secret. And your father who sees in secret will reward you,” he said.

Jesus’ Example

He used Jesus as an example. During His time, Jesus would frequently withdraw from the crowd to pray in secret. People would search for Him, and upon finding Him, they would discover Him in prayer. Pastor Francis Chan then urged everyone to emulate Christ.

“What if by you living a quiet life, and you doing things in secret, meant that God would show you miracles, more miracles than you’ve ever seen? But they were just for you. And what if I am quiet and seeking God, He starts thundering messages just for you and He says, ‘I’ve never told anyone this and I’m not telling anyone this this is just for you,’” he said.

Sign You Are In The Flesh

David has been enthusiastic about guiding the church on walking in the Spirit of God. He utilizes his social media platform to disseminate these biblical insights. In one of his sermon videos, he expressed that one way to live in the Spirit is by setting our minds on what the Spirit desires.

Romans 8:5-7 says, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.”

So, how do you know if you are living in the flesh? One definite sign is by examining your thoughts.

David said, “A sign you’re not being led by the Spirit… all your thoughts are sinful. Thoughts of bitterness, thoughts of entitlement, of lust, of negativity; thoughts that are deceptive, that are perverse.”

He continued, “Those who are dominated by sinful nature think about sinful things. Great test to see if you’re led by the Spirit of God or flesh – just monitor your thoughts. Observe your thoughts. What thought is going through your mind?”

Upon hearing about David’s warning, one Instagram user inquired about how to prevent sinful thoughts from invading one’s mind. User @samueljamesalex answered, “Someone wisely said you can’t stop birds flying over your head, but you can make sure they don’t build a nest.”

Indeed, a person cannot control only specific thoughts. That is why Paul also stated in 2 Corinthians 10:5 the importance of taking captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. As one surrenders to Jesus daily, their mind is renewed day by day, and their thoughts become purified. Ultimately, one cannot achieve this on their own but only through the Spirit of God.

Brian Guerin Talks About Knowing Jesus: ‘Your Heart Can Burn, And You Still Not Know Him’

Brian Guerin speaks about developing a deeper relationship with Jesus. He emphasizes that while people’s hearts may burn, they often fail to truly know Jesus.

The Senior Leader of Ascend Church, Brian Guerin, shared a profound insight into knowing Jesus. He told the congregation, “Your heart can burn, and you still not know Him.” People might know about Moses and all the prophets, but their eyes were not opened. According to him, many individuals with burning hearts and who received significant revelations still failed to truly know Jesus.

“To see Him is to know Him,” he preached.

And for him, to know Jesus is to discover the purpose of life. He referred to the story documented in Luke 24. This event took place after the resurrection of Jesus. Two of His disciples were on the road to Emmaus when Jesus suddenly appeared to them. Initially, they failed to recognize him, but when they saw Jesus break bread, their eyes were opened. In verse 32, it says, “They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’”

Hearts Melt like Wax

Furthermore, he explained what occurred to the disciples when their hearts were burning. He shared what Song of Solomon says, “God’s love, it’s a flame, it’s the most vehement flame. It’s a burning that happens.” Then he referenced Psalms 97, where it was stated, “Don’t mountains melt like wax in the presence of the Lord?” He would often view people’s hearts like mountains. If they would only allow God to draw near enough to ignite them, causing them to burn and melt like wax, then they would flow in the direction that God intended.

Moreover, he emphasized that God doesn’t require hardened hearts. Instead, God seeks hearts that are softened and humble. This transformation can only occur if people permit God’s presence to enter.

“When hearts melt like wax, you don’t have feelings. You’re mesmerized by His goodness, His glory, His face, His eyes… When your heart melt like wax and especially to the place where His broken body has been fed directly from Himself to you. That’s different,” he highlighted.

Joyce addressed a topic that many believers can relate to: a believer’s life is more than just attending church every Sunday. Merely going to church once a week and seeking God’s help only during times of crisis is not His best plan for every son and daughter. God desires a closer, more intimate relationship with us and calls us to “diligently seek Him.”

“He wants us to talk to him on and off all day long about anything,” Joyce said. “Whatever we’re doing, praying for other people, just stay in contact with Him on a regular basis. And you know God is never more than one thought away and I love that.”

She also reminded us of the simplicity of just being available. One is not required to be in a specific posture to approach God. Whether it’s in a grocery store, in the car, at home, or even in the backyard, God is omnipresent and is with us at all times.

Joyce Meyer’s Reason For Unhappiness

“I want you to think about that,” Joyce said. “Think about how close God is to you. When Jesus left, the Father sent the Holy Spirit. And He said He has been with you and He will now be with you.”

If you are a Christian, God lives within you. You are His temple.

“And so you should be doing everything that you do with the idea in mind that you’re doing it with Him,” Joyce further expressed.

She shared how she lived her Christian life before and encouraged everyone not to follow the same path.

“I lived the way I’m telling you not to live for a lot of years.I went to church on Sunday. Read one chapter a day in my Bible. Said a little prayer in the morning, a little prayer at night. And that was it. That was my life with God unless we had some kind of a crisis and then we would pray about that crisis. But I tell you, when God touched my life and I realized that’s part of the reason why I was so unhappy was because I was leaving Him out of almost everything that I was doing,” she said.

But one moment opened her eyes and she saw how eager God was to be involved in her everyday life.

One night, Joyce was in a bowling league, and she wasn’t very good at bowling. Then she heard God speak to her heart, “Why don’t you ask me to help you?”

She answered, “Well, you don’t care about my bowling.” And God said, “I care about everything you do.”

That was the time Joyce realized how close and personal God was. She understood that she could talk to God about anything and ask Him for help with anything.

“He’s concerned about you all the time, wants to take care of you, wants to be invited into everything that you do,” Joyce Meyer said.
