Thousands from different churches participated in the “We Pray San Diego” event to pray for the city amid stressful times.
We Pray San Diego
On Saturday, participants from over 90 churches came together to pray at 50 different locations across San Diego. Around 2,000 people participated to pray for the city during these stressful times. Over 1,000 more also participated in the “We Pray San Diego” online. The event lasted for one hour.
“We believe prayer moves mountains,” said Miles McPherson, senior pastor of the Rock Church, which organized the event. “If we can come together and pray together, it’s probably one of the most unifying things we can do.”
Prayer for the education system
A “We Pray San Diego” event also happened last June to pray for healing and restoration from the effect of the global pandemic over the city. The most recent prayer gathering focused on the city’s schools, youth, and teachers of San Diego.
Parents shared how the current situation has been affecting their children. Andrea Raibert, a mother of a 7th-grader and a 10th-grader prayed in front of the Poway Unified School District office. As she sat with her Bible opened, she thought about her kids and others who were coping in the changes that quickly happened over the last few months.
“They would love to go back to school, without a doubt,” Andrea said. “They miss their friends, they miss the activities, they just miss the social interaction. Kids are lonely. They need more. So we’re here to pray.”
Prayer
“We Pray San Diego” received so many positive responses. The organizers of the event plan to continue these prayer gatherings every few months. Every gathering will focus on different concerns that the city is facing.
“We don’t really pray just for the sake of praying,” said Ken Hudson, lead pastor at Carmel Mountain Christian Church. “We have a true belief that God moves, God acts and hears our prayers.”
