A young woman experienced the unrelenting pursuit of God’s love. Even though she tried to push God away, He would still speak to her. He never left her.
Martha Torres, from Los Angeles, California, came into the world in the midst of tragedy. Her mom, while pregnant with her, got shot in the head. Doctors had to deliver Martha through C-section in order to save her life. Her mom died shortly after.
Martha’s dad was devastated by the news that he could not handle raising Martha. So, Martha’s grandmother stepped in and raised her.
At an early age, Martha was already confused about her sexual identity. She felt attracted to girls. As she grew up, she finally gave in to her desires. Martha cut her hair and changed her wardrobe to fully embracing her confusion.
Martha explained that her confusion came from her hurt from men. The men in her life were not to be trusted. They would abandon and disappoint Martha.
He never left
But even when Martha was being rebellious, she still felt God calling out to her. She recalled, “I would be like at a club… and I’m hearing Him saying like, ‘This is not what I had intended for you. You know I have something more for you.'”
Martha would drink more to keep from hearing God’s voice.
One day, Martha met a lady who related to her. She invited Martha for a conversation, and there, she introduced Jesus. And at Mcdonald’s, Martha accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
But Martha’s transformation was not instant. It was her everyday yes to God and her step-by-step obedience that brought her to where she is now.
Today, Martha is an intern at HungryGen church, proclaiming the truth of Jesus, while holding onto God’s promises.
“I tried to push God away, He still pursued me, He never left me. Throughout all the hurt and stuff, He was still with me. All the trauma that I experienced in my life, He was still with me. And He never judged me but was very patient with me.”
