A restaurant owner helps a young waitress from Texas after her $2000 tip from a mystery dinner didn’t go through.
Texas Waitress
Emily Bauer is a 21-year-old waitress who works at Red Hook Seafood restaurant in San Antonio, Texas. During one of her shifts, she served a man at the restaurant and kept apologizing to the man for the slow service. However, the mystery man was patient and kind towards her.
“He was like, ‘It’s okay, I’ve owned restaurants and I understand how it is to be a server.’ I was like, ‘Thank you for understanding,’” Emily recalled.
Tip from a mystery diner
That customer left Emily a $2000 tip on top of his $69.01 bill with a note that read “Merry Christmas! Keep working hard!” The young mother of two children was ecstatic as the tip was an answer to her prayers. However, her excitement soon turned to disappointment when the transaction didn’t get through.
“It’s like the bank telling you like, ‘Oh, it’s a fraud. We’re not going to do it,’” the general manager of Red Hook Seafood said. “If I put a $2,000 tip on mine? My bank is going to deny it. They’re going to deny it. They’re going to deny it because I do not normally do that; I do not normally tip that way.”
Restaurant owner
Upon learning about the situation, the restaurant owner, John Cheng, stepped in to help Emily. Despite being stiffed by the mystery diner, he wrote Emily a check for $2,069.01 as a Christmas gift for her.
“It’s Christmas time, and everybody is struggling,” said John. “I’m ready to give it to her as a Christmas gift.”
Emily is planning to use the money to buy Christmas presents for her 2-year-old and 5-month-old sons. It was truly a blessing from God as the young mother has been through rough situations this year.
