How Do I Restart My Relationship With God?

Janina Vela, a Filipina vlogger with a substantial following of over 300,000 on Instagram, provided a heartfelt response to one of her followers’ inquiries. Many of them sought guidance on restarting their relationship with God, possibly indicating that they were genuine Christians grappling with their faith due to various disappointments.

More often than not, Christians are unprepared for life’s trials and challenges. Consequently, some succumb to temptations and stumble back into sin, even after years of faithfully following Christ. This internal struggle is something many believers fear opening up about to others. However, the majority of them desire a restoration of their faith. So, how should they begin?

Come Home

Janina Vela answered this question in her recent vlog. She pointed out, “Coming home starts with a single step.”

The influencer explained how often “we have these really high standards,” especially when one has been in the Christian faith for a long time. Janina acknowledged that such struggles are normal. However, she also recognized that it can become a dilemma for individuals when they find themselves unable to meet these standards.

“And those are great standards!” she exclaimed. “But standards are supposed to motivate you to be better, not discourage you from even trying.”

Further, Janina explained, “What I’m trying to say is, if coming back to God just means reading the verse of the day on the Bible app, listening to a podcast, going to church with your friend, or saying a little prayer, then do that.”

Then, she proceeded to share the Parable of the Lost Son from the Bible. In this story, the Father warmly welcomed his prodigal son with great excitement, despite the son’s past actions.

“And while he was still a long way off, his Father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him,” she read.

Finally, Janina remarked, “Going back to God doesn’t have to be a sprint. Just take it one step at a time, and the Father will come running.”
