A 3,000-pound boulder missed a Hawaiian woman when it crashed into her home. She credits God for the miraculous rescue.

Their house’s CCTV captured the nerve-wracking incident. Caroline Sasaki was walking towards their living room when suddenly she heard a loud crashing sound. If she would have gone a second earlier, she would have gotten hit by a massive boulder.

“God is with me,” she said. “I heard the loud boom, and apparently, the boulder passed right in front of me. I didn’t see it. All I heard was the boom, and then somebody asking me if I was okay.”

Caroline showed Hawaii News the boulder’s trail before crashing into their home. Apparently, it traveled down from a hillside, breaking down a cemented wall, scraping their car, then crashed through their living room then into a bedroom.

Caroline was not alone in the house, she had three other members inside, and fortunately, none of them got hurt.

The cause of the boulder’s fall was still unknown, but the family had it investigated.

God Is With Me

“Basically, I’m in shock. I refuse to look at the video,” she told ABC News. “Everyone is telling me I’m lucky.”

But we know that more than luck was on Caroline’s side. As she said, “God is with her.” Indeed, God was.

If Caroline testified God’s goodness when she was almost hit, a police officer praised God even though he crashed and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

We recall a previous report of a cop who was thrown 20 feet into the air when he got into a car accident. But Officer Matt Larsh credits God and thanks Him for his survival. He said, “I do believe God had a hand in my landing and this whole incident. When you look at it, there’s no other word for that other than a miracle.”

Following UN Report, Israeli Environment Minister Calls to Declare ‘Climatic State of Emergency’

Israel must declare a climatic state of emergency and define climate disasters as a strategic threat, Minister of Environmental Protection Tamar Zandberg stated, following the new UN report on climate change.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report, released Monday, warned that “many of the changes observed in the climate are unprecedented in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years, and some of the changes already set in motion—such as continued sea-level rise—are irreversible over hundreds to thousands of years.”

The report provides new estimates of the chances of crossing the global warming level of 1.5°C in the next decades, and finds that unless there are immediate, rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting warming to close to 1.5°C or even 2°C will be beyond reach.

“Climate change is already affecting every region on Earth, in multiple ways. The changes we experience will increase with additional warming,” said IPCC Working Group I Co-Chair Panmao Zhai.

Climate change is also bringing multiple different changes in different regions, which will all increase with further warming, the report warns. These include changes to wetness and dryness, to winds, snow and ice, coastal areas and oceans.

However, strong and sustained reductions in emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases would limit climate change.

Zandberg stated in response that the report “leaves no room for doubt: it is no longer possible to deny the intensity and urgency of the climate crisis, nor its connection to human activity.”

“Israel has begun to take necessary actions, but it is imperative to declare a climatic state of emergency, define climate disasters as a strategic threat on the threat map and prepare accordingly,” she stated.

Israel has a plan to reduce its carbon footprint and to complete a successful transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy by 2050, and by 2025, Israel will no longer be burning coal.

In solar energy, over the last five years, Israel has increased its generation from 2% to about 10%.

Earlier this month, the government announced that Israel will align itself with the world’s developed countries who are leading the fight against the climate crisis and have agreed to the imposition of fees on the carbon dioxide emitted from fuels and other sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

Let’s Rally in Prayer for Sri Lanka!

Landslides and floods in Sri Lanka have killed at least 151 people and the country faces the risk of more mudslides as torrential rains continue.

More than 150 people are still missing after the worst rains on the island since 2003.

The state-run National Building Research Organization warned people in 15 out of the country’s 25 districts of the possible need to evacuate from the hill slopes should the rains continue.

I visited the Southern District of Matara, where a river burst its banks, causing havoc to the nearby towns and villages, with water reaching over 15 feet in height, on land, wiping out homes, communities and moreover entire families.

As of 2nd June 2017, a tea estate community of 30 families was unaccounted for after a mass landslide. The entire slope they lived on became a muddy grave, making it near impossible for rescue teams to even approach the site.

My journey to these areas educated me of the fact that it takes only a moment in time to reduce to zero, what took years of labor to achieve. The average individual household has to depend on a daily labor wage of USD$ 3.30 per family of four to five persons, which begs the question, how do they restart their lives, when they do not earn not enough wages to even enjoy two square meals a day?

On the positive side, the nation rose to this challenge with thousands of individuals rallying to help along with corporate bodies, nonprofit organizations, the army, navy, airforce, and all local TV stations who joined forces to get food, water, and basic toiletries to many affected areas.

The challenge for the immediate future lies in school children who have lost all their books, tuition notes, uniforms to their parents losing the very homes they lived in, to modes of transport where the bicycle or three wheeler was taken on a loan, have been wiped off their road to progress.

The Government has assured those affected that assistance would come their way, but in realistic terms, this will only take them back to the life they had, which was not much for starters and will take many seasons to achieve.
My appeal to anyone reading this blog, is to take it upon themselves to try and assist at least one person or a family in some area in their attempt to return to the path of moving forward. International and local aid will cease the moment another calamity takes place in another area of the island or place in the world, but these folks have to return to some state of normalcy or mere survival for many years to come.
