The previously reported 10 ministry volunteers who were kidnapped in Ukraine are now released after being beaten and tortured by Russian militia.
10 Ministry Volunteers released
A group of Orphan’s Promise volunteers and refugees have been abducted in Berdyansk by Russian forces last week. Many have been praying for their protection and release since the news broke out. Today, those prayers were answered as all 10 individuals have been released.
“God is good! Thank you for praying for the 10 volunteers,” Orphan’s Promise director Nataliya Khomyak reported. “All are alive and have been released (even though they have been beaten severely and tortured and one is currently in a hospital after a heart attack).”
Orphan’s Promise
It is a miracle that they are all alive and were released from captivity. However, prayers are still needed as they recover from the injuries they have suffered after being beaten and tortured by the Russian troops.
“Prayers are still needed for their recovery after being detained. But it’s a miracle that they’ve been released… Thank you for all the prayers!”
Yulia, an Orphan’s Promise worker in Ukraine, shares the details of the incident.
“On Tuesday, a team of OP volunteers together with the volunteers from the local church were evacuating several people from Mariupol in a van – they were driving them to Ukrainian territory. An elderly man was among them. They were seized by the Russian military and taken away in an unknown direction,” she recalled.
Miracle
Since one of them has a tattoo that resembles the symbol of the Azov Regiment, a military unit in Ukraine, they were all beaten and tortured.
“It turned out that the elderly man had a tattoo. The invaders did not like it, because they thought that this man was a military man from Azov. They grabbed the whole group. They were holding them captive. Men were abused – beaten, humiliated, and tortured with electric current. They took a means of transport belonging to the church.”
But they are still thankful that everyone is alive and were released after just a couple of days.
“After a couple of days, a group of 10 people was released… Thank you very much for the prayers, everyone is alive.”
