Bethel Church Senior Pastor Bill Johnson reminded Christians in his powerful message that “the goal is always relationship with God.”

Ministry Is Not The Goal

Serving God is the noblest and the most honorable thing people would see a Christian do to show his or her love for God. One would see them serving in the church through various ministries present. They’re role models and are most often looked up to by many. All is good for Christian ministers in their service until the ministry replaces God in their hearts.

In his powerful message, Pastor Bill Johnson reminded Christians, especially ministers, that “the goal is always relationship with God.” He emphasized that it’s not really about ministry, but that serving God must be an overflow from one’s relationship with God.

“Walking full of the Holy Spirit is a lifestyle of valuing a Person,” he said. “It’s not about ministry. But it must overflow in ministry. If ministry is the target, then we always have another reason to be full of the Spirit of God to perform or produce instead of just the relationship.”

The Goal Is Always Relationship With God

Bill stressed that something extraordinary always happens when a person is yielded and surrendered to Christ. Because that breakthrough in the secret place always overflows in the ministry. That’s why ministry should never be the goal.

“But when I seek Him only so that I might be used, I always have a mixture of motives,” he explained. “Part of which is that I would feel much better about life. Part of which is I look good myself, perhaps respected among peers.”

DEMI TEBOW URGES BELIEVERS TO TRUST IN GOD AMIDST QUESTIONING

Although such a desire to be filled with the Spirit of God and be used by Him is good, Bill noted that the goal is always a relationship with God. When one’s heart is in tune with such a goal, there is no striving in one’s service to God.

“When the Holy Spirit works in and through somebody, it’s the most wonderful thing because you get to participate in something you’re not worthy of,” he added. “And whenever you receive a gift you’re not worthy of, it does Him no honor to discard it. If you’re given a gift you’re not worthy of, it increases your sense of indebtness. It increases your sense of awareness of His heart, His purpose, His intentions.”

Quinton Huggett: ‘It’s Not Legalism To Be Disciplined In Your Relationship With God’

Christian influencer Quinton Huggett shared with his followers that “it’s not legalism to be disciplined in your relationship with God.”

Discipline is Legalism?

In the Christian context, discipline is sometimes associated with legalism. For some people, legalism is seen as a hindrance to authenticity before God. Some find it acceptable when someone is real with how they feel, which Christians often refer to as being authentic. While being authentic is commendable, it can become excessive when discipline is neglected. People may then become more focused on feelings rather than following the guidance of the Spirit.

Influencer Quinton Huggett addressed the issue in his Instagram post. He explained how some people believe the “terrible lie” that “effort is the opposite of authentic.”

As an example, he discussed the discipline of exercising and running. When a person is determined to lose weight and achieve a healthy body image, they have to be disciplined. To reach their goal, the person has to make the effort to exercise even when they don’t feel like it. Just because they don’t feel like it doesn’t mean they no longer love pursuing their goal.

Disciplined In Your Relationship With God

With that said, Quinton remarked, “But what if the act of pushing ourselves to go do the thing when we don’t feel like it is the deepest form of love? I think our walk with God is the same. It’s not legalism to be disciplined in your relationship with Jesus.”

The influencer highlighted that being committed and disciplined in spending time with Jesus on busy days, even when one doesn’t feel like it, is actually a good thing. He said, “It may actually be the deepest sign that your faith is greater than your feelings.”

May Quinton’s message help believers grow more deeply in their relationship with God, realizing that loving God is a choice one must make every day. And that is real love.

Janina Vela, a Filipina vlogger with a substantial following of over 300,000 on Instagram, provided a heartfelt response to one of her followers’ inquiries. Many of them sought guidance on restarting their relationship with God, possibly indicating that they were genuine Christians grappling with their faith due to various disappointments.

More often than not, Christians are unprepared for life’s trials and challenges. Consequently, some succumb to temptations and stumble back into sin, even after years of faithfully following Christ. This internal struggle is something many believers fear opening up about to others. However, the majority of them desire a restoration of their faith. So, how should they begin?

Come Home

Janina Vela answered this question in her recent vlog. She pointed out, “Coming home starts with a single step.”

The influencer explained how often “we have these really high standards,” especially when one has been in the Christian faith for a long time. Janina acknowledged that such struggles are normal. However, she also recognized that it can become a dilemma for individuals when they find themselves unable to meet these standards.

“And those are great standards!” she exclaimed. “But standards are supposed to motivate you to be better, not discourage you from even trying.”

Further, Janina explained, “What I’m trying to say is, if coming back to God just means reading the verse of the day on the Bible app, listening to a podcast, going to church with your friend, or saying a little prayer, then do that.”

PRISCILLA SHIRER ENCOURAGES CHRISTIANS TO STOP THINKING LIKE A SLAVE

Then, she proceeded to share the Parable of the Lost Son from the Bible. In this story, the Father warmly welcomed his prodigal son with great excitement, despite the son’s past actions.

“And while he was still a long way off, his Father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him,” she read.

Finally, Janina remarked, “Going back to God doesn’t have to be a sprint. Just take it one step at a time, and the Father will come running.”

Distraction

Distraction—it’s one of the greatest weapons the enemy uses against those who follow Christ. If Satan can’t discourage us, he often distracts us, so we would forget God and choose other things over Him. So, we should take the time to align ourselves with God and listen to His guidance every day.

3 Steps To Take To Grow In Your Relationship With God

1.Grow in Solitude

In Luke 5:15, Jesus set an example for us to grow in solitude. As He became well-known because of the miracles he had performed, large crowds drew near Him “to hear Him.” However, Jesus’ response here was remarkable. It says in the verse, “But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.”

Jesus withdrew from the crowd to spend more time in silence with God. And with that, we should also do the same. We should sometimes disconnect and spend our time in silence before the Lord, no matter how busy we are. Make it your goal to grow closer to Him.

2.Grow in Sacrifice

In Luke 9:23, Jesus told His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself and, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, He is the one who will save it.”

Part of our growth in the Lord involves sacrifice. That means surrendering things that would not help or hinder us from growing our relationship with God. But we should also remember that “the bigger the sacrifice, the bigger the blessing.”

3.Grow in Service

One of the best ways to grow more in the Lord is to put our faith into action. That could mean allowing ourselves to be used by God.

“When you learn how to Bible Study, you gain knowledge,” IVM explained. “But when you serve and apply the truths that you learned at a Bible Study, you gain experience. And when it comes to growth, you need both.”

In an interview on TBN, she urged Christians to be intentional with prayer and prioritize it over everything we do. The “War Room” actress admitted she is also guilty of neglecting being intentional with prayer. She explained, “being strategic in prayer, trying to detect where you see the enemy’s fingerprints at kind of as handiwork meddling in your life..”

Being Intentional

The author also stressed that if Christians don’t become intentional with prayer, it opens us up to the enemy who can  “take advantage of a weakness or a divisiveness.” Being intentional, she added, is “not just randomly saying words” in our prayers. Priscilla referred to it as a “targeted” prayer.

Further, she advised listeners to journal their prayers to keep track of God’s faithfulness in our requests. She also shared, “It keeps us focused. It reminds us what we’re praying about.”

Later in the interview, the host mentioned how many Christians complain. She urged Christians not to waste their time complaining, but to instead, choose to pray .

“You can complain, but if you prayed as much as you complained, maybe we would see something different,” she remarked.

We often hear how God wants to connect with His people by having a relationship with Him. But more than that, He wants something more: partnership.

In an episode of the BibleProject, they explained certain truths about the important connection God wants to establish with His people. God desire for connection has been evident since the beginning of time when He created humanity.

How is your relationship with God right now? We all need a strong connection with Him in our lives. And in different seasons we can experience God as our Friend, Lover, Father, Teacher, and more. But in the Bible, there’s one thing we shouldn’t miss out on—God wants to partner with us.

This BibleProject episode goes into detail about this partnership explaining it’s “working alongside someone to accomplish a goal together.”

Faithful God And The New Covenant

When God first created man, He appointed them “partners in bringing more and more goodness” to all His creation. That was God’s original plan until humanity broke that partnership in the Garden.

Humanity rebelled against their Creator and, as a result, “created a world on their own terms.” Since then, although the partnership was broken, God remained faithful.

“So what God does is select a smaller group of people out of the many,” the BibleProject episode explained. “And He makes a new partnership with them called a covenant.”

We have been promised a covenant with our Creator. Despite humanity continuously breaking this connection, God has always made a way for us to return to Him.

Jesus paid the ultimate price to cover all sin, for all people. Thus, Jesus has become the Way (John 14:6) back to God and anyone who accepts has access and connection with God again.

Praise God for His thoughts and ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9)!

“I had a pretty interesting relationship with my stepfather that was very difficult,” she recalled. “And I would pray all the time about that and to understand him. But also go, ‘Why do I have to be in this situation?'”

The young Chrissy had questions, and prayers immensely helped her sustain in life. Furthermore, she revealed that her conversations with God guided her as an actress. She starred on the hit NBC show “This is Us,” which ended last May 2022, and in the Christian movie “Breakthrough” in 2019.

Coming to Los Angeles

Chrissy also shared that she was 20 years old when she arrived in Los Angeles alone to pursue her dreams. And God made it possible for her to navigate well in an uncertain place.

“There was no way in the world that I was going to be able to navigate Los Angeles without a foundation,” she said. “Without prayer, and without God, my Higher Power helping me in navigating it because it is really scary and it is uncertain.”

The actress added, “I would constantly say, ‘Please, God help me; you know better than I do. Thy will and not mine be done. Just give me the best next right action; what do I need to do for You and not for me?'”

The 42-year-old further shared that she wanted to appear on “the most successful television show.” But now her desire had changed. She wanted “to be on a show that touches people’s hearts and minds.”

“So prayer has been a constant for as long as I can remember,” she remarked.

Giving your everything to God may feel abstract in thought. What does it actually mean? Maybe you have heard the phrase while listening to a worship set or in a sermon or devotional. Ask yourself: are there any parts of my life that I want to avoid giving God access to?

God knows everything about you…

and He is well pleased. There are no mistakes, thoughts, or decisions beyond His knowledge of you. There is also nothing too big for His mercy to cover. Because you are completely known by God, He desires that you come to Him in all aspects of your life. With your heart, your troubles, concerns, joy, and celebrations. Giving your everything to God is really giving yourself in relationship with Him. If you’re married, consider you and your spouse’s connection. They know you intimately, yet it takes effort on your end to maintain your relationship with one another.

Giving your everything starts with the unseen

It is in the daily, present moments of intentional connection that your relationship is strengthened. It is where your satisfaction in and with one another flourishes. This is God’s design for relationships, including with Him. Involving God in every part of your life matters in the unseen moments together. When you choose to praise Him for who He is, when you come to Him, casting your worries and cares, and when you obey His direction for your life. The decisions that only you and the Lord could know about, when you bring Him close, strengthen your relationship. Take a moment to reflect today: are there any elements of my life that I do not regularly seek God’s guidance in? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you surrender all that you are.

Danica has been known for her role in the television series “The Wonder Years” as Winnie Cooper. She had been skeptical and had biases against Christianity despite having a Christian father. As a child, she would constantly attend church services but she hasn’t built a relationship with God.

“In my life, starting in childhood, I had been made aware of all the hypocrisy in the various religions of Christianity, it being used for evil, power, and control throughout history, and that had definitely biased me,” she said.

Candace Cameron Bure

Today, in an Instagram post, she revealed that she’s finally started a relationship with Jesus Christ. It all started after her friend Candace Cameron Bure, an outspoken Christian actress, gave her a Bible as a gift.

“It all started one evening when I was struggling with the idea of forgiveness and DM’d my good friend @candacecbure about a passage from the Bible she had [wrote] on her insta-stories, and then she sent me a Bible and invited me to church,” she recalled.

Relationship with God

Now, at the age of 47, she finally experienced the love and joy that comes from an intimate relationship with God. Her misconceptions and questions about the Holy Spirit and Christianity are being answered as she reads more of the Bible.

“I have been going to church and finding a lot of amazing love and peace and purpose, and it’s blowing my mind,” she noted. “I always had this other preconceived notion of what that was when people talked about Jesus and the Lord, I just didn’t quite get it, I feel a lot of joy in my heart and I always like to share that when I can with you guys.”

“Omnipresent love is there for you whenever you want it, whenever you’re ready.”

HGTV host Page Turner opens up about her journey in finding Jesus and having a relationship with God, which she considers the most important in her life.

Page Turner moved from Los Angeles to Nashville twenty years ago with her three daughters. Then in 2018, she landed an opportunity on the show “Flip or Flop Nashville,” where she was a co-host and gained popularity. And today, the host is debuting her solo “Fix My Flip,” a show she created to help struggling house-flippers in her hometown in California.

In an interview with Faithwire, the HGTV host opened up about how Jesus came into her life.

Page didn’t grow up in a Christian home. In fact, her family was agnostic. Her mom merely believed in “a higher power” and tried Hinduism yet never found the one true God.

Moreover, Page’s mom sent her to an all-girls Catholic high school to be disciplined. That’s when she first learned about God, the Bible, and Jesus. However, religion kept her from having an authentic relationship with God.

“It took me many years to find that relationship with the Lord outside of religion and the confines of religion,” the TV personality said. “Which I sort of got jarred in and stuck in.”

Relationship With God

Page admits it took her many years to finally understand the heart of God deeper because she didn’t grow up in a Christian home. But today, she attests her relationship with Jesus is “growing and getting stronger.”

Further, the HGTV host shared how her show teaches her many things about who God is. Page explained how some people decline her help—money, and expertise.

“You know, you can call on God for help, He sends help. And then that pride and ego comes in,” she said. “And it’s like, ‘I just gave you what to do and you’re not gonna believe me. Either by doubt or fear or whatever it is that is keeping you from accepting the help?'”

With that said, Page is encouraging believers to seek God first and be humble before Him in prayer.

“That’s when He hears our call and our cries,” the host said. “And it’s like, ‘OK, when are you going to get tired of going through what you’re going through?’ That’s the ultimate humility, you know, saying, ‘OK, I’m done with this because it’s not working my way.'”

As a result of such realization, Page began to spend more time in prayer every day. She calls it an “all-day conversation that I have externally and internally with God.”

“Every day, I need to have some form of communication with God,” she stressed. “Especially when I feel like, ‘OK, I’m off track a little bit. It’s real easy to praise God when everything is going good, but what I’ve learned is if you praise Him every day while everything is going good and you seek Him every day while everything is going good, when that challenging time comes, you won’t feel so disconnected from Him — because He’s never disconnected from us.”

“You have to keep that connection daily so that, when dips happen, it’s like, ‘OK, let me just go talk to God. I’ll be right back.'”
