Quarterback Brock Purdy consistently acknowledges and credits God for every victory he and his team achieve. In recent news, he once again attributes the glory to God after leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
Brock Purdy ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ No More
Two years ago, Brock Purdy was labeled as Mr. Irrelevant. However, today he has become a highly significant figure. Serving as San Francisco’s starting quarterback for the full season, the 24-year-old faced even greater scrutiny despite achieving a team record for throwing yards, totaling 4,280 yards, which ranked him fifth in the NFL. He also qualified for the NFL MVP playoffs.
The 49ers’ impressive 17-point comeback matched the record for the largest comeback in NFC championship history. Notably, they maintained a strong performance even during halftime.
“No one was freaking out,” Brock Purdy said in a postgame press interview. “It’s football. There are numerous experienced and seasoned individuals on this team, including veterans who have encountered extraordinary situations in their careers. We were just like, ‘We have to do our job.’”
Brock Purdy: “God Gave Me This Opportunity”
Indeed, they performed exceptionally well. However, the quarterback consistently attributes their success to God’s help. He humbly acknowledges that he has never possessed the advantage of being the biggest, fastest, or strongest. Instead, he had to diligently persevere and prepare himself, trusting that God would present him with opportunities to showcase his abilities.

“But God’s always given me an opportunity, whether that was in high school, college and then obviously in the NFL,” he said. “Getting drafted last, people overlook you and all that kind of stuff, and then all you need is an opportunity to watch and see what He does. I put my faith and trust in Him and He’s gotten me where I’m at.”
“Win Or Lose I’m Going To Glorify God”
Furthermore, he said, “So when I’m down 17 at half, honestly, I’m just thinking, ‘All right God, You’ve taken me here, and win or lose I’m going to glorify You.’ That’s my peace, that’s the joy, that’s the steadfastness — that’s where I get it from. And that’s the honest truth. So I leaned into that and sure enough, we were able to come back.”
He has consistently expressed his faith and his deep passion for God shines through whenever he utilizes his platform to share the Good News.
“I believe that Jesus Christ did come down, and died for my sins and rose again, and He is living and sitting beside God (the Father) on the throne,” Brock Purdy told Sports Spectrum in February. “And so I believe that. It’s not just some story fairytale thing. It’s real. And it allows me to stay level-headed and real with life.”
Moreover, he declared that his identity is in God and not in football: “My identity can’t be in football, it can’t be in the things of this world. It’s got to be in Him.”
