A video recording of a proud mom went viral as she was overjoyed when her son entered the game in Qatar World Cup 2022.
Proud Mom
“My son is in the world cup.. oh my God, Hallelujah!” This was Dee Adekugbe’s post as her son, Sam, debuted as a World Cup football player.
Samuel Adekugbe is Canada’s defender. He substituted for Richie Laryea in the second half of their game against Belgium. Unfortunately, they lost with a score of 1-0.
Despite the case, Dee did not mind. Her joy was seeing her son finally get to pitch in the game.
“My son is in the World Cup! My son is in the World Cup!” Dee shouted as she was pointing her fingers at the television. It showed Sam entering the field in the 74th minute of the game.
“Thank You, Jesus! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!” She continued while spinning for joy.
Her reaction caught the media’s attention, especially when ESPN shared her video on its Tiktok account. It received many positive feedbacks while others commented about how they also want to have their mothers get excited as they reach their dreams. “I pray one day my mom and dad will also watch me play in the World Cup,” says one aspiring athlete.

Dee’s expression of thanksgiving showed her faith in Jesus. She credits Him for Sam’s success in football.
But, Dee does mention the name of Jesus not just at the peak of her joy, but in every moment. It is especially true on Sundays when Dee and her husband preach in front of their non-denominational church in Calgary.
The Adekugbes are from Nigeria and moved to Canada to open a church. And Sam, as the eldest of Dee’s five children, is naturally responsible. He plays the keyboard in the church every Sunday and helps the house with the chores every day.
His hard work, dedication, and faith paved the way to earn a spot in the FIFA World Cup.
