Almera shared her story of exploring the world and pursuing ‘the dream’ on CCF Women2Women Ministry’s YouTube page. She believed that achieving success would bring contentment, but instead, it left her feeling empty.
Her Story
Almera shared that she came from a poor family in Zambales, a province in the Philippines. She is the second eldest of five daughters. Her mother used to sell snacks outside school, while her father was responsible for looking after their home. She felt proud of her mother, yet ashamed of their financial situation. Her affluent peers taunted and insulted her because of her family’s poverty. Eventually, her parents sent her to live with her wealthy paternal aunt, which exacerbated her feelings. Almera’s aunt, who was strict and abusive, treated her like a house helper.
“I also developed a rebellious heart, promising myself that I will prove her, my classmates, and the world that I will become as somebody someday,” Almera recalled. And she did.
Achieving ‘The Dream’
At the early age of 17, Almera moved to a bigger city and started working as a food attendant.
“I worked my way as an associate in an advertising agency. Thereafter I was able to work in the Philippine Congress. It was there that I was exposed to the lifestyle of the rich and famous,” she said.

Having become self-reliant, Almera started her own business selling bags and shoes while also working. Her business flourished, and eventually, she earned her first million at a young age.
“I was able to buy all the expensive clothes and accessories which impressed all my classmates and relatives who used to be little me,” she said.
Earned her first million, graduated with Latin honors, and traveled around the world – Almera was finally living the dream.
Achieving ‘The Dream’ Made Her Feel Empty
But despite all the accomplishments she achieved, she still felt empty and unhappy. She confessed that she relied on alcohol to fall asleep.
“It came to a point that I could no longer understand why I still felt unhappy and empty even after having achieved, possessed, and did all that I wanted. It should also be mentioned that at this time my relationships with my siblings and my longtime boyfriend also deteriorated and suffered,” Almera said.
There was no room for God in her life. However, upon realizing that she would inevitably face consequences for her choices, she decided to give God a chance and attended a retreat. It was during this retreat that she experienced God’s unconditional love, which led to a positive transformation in her life.
