The Marathon Of Life

Did you know that it’s not about winning, that it’s actually about finishing? You’ve probably heard that before and you probably feel like you understand that, but when things start coming up in life, you really do want to win. You really want to come on top. And I have a story to go with that.

I just finished a half marathon and in the middle of it, my knee was hurting. I wasn’t feeling the best. And I had no idea how I was going to finish, let alone win. And I could hear just in me, God speaking, saying, “It’s not about winning, it’s not about beating your time from the last marathon. It’s just about finishing.” So I had to walk half of the marathon, but I still finished. And on top of that, I actually beat my time because I had so much grace on myself. I didn’t realize I actually did. So it’s not about just winning. It’s about finishing. He wants us to finish things.

It says here in James 1:12, “Blessed is the one who preserves under trial, because having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” He loves you and He wants the best for you. And He doesn’t want you to focus on hurting yourself, stressing yourself, to get to all of these places that we’re believing for. He wants you just to finish and believe that the rest will come. The crown will come when you finish, when you don’t stop, because you think you’re not perfect enough. Just keep going.

God, I pray for this person right here that’s watching this video. And I pray that you encourage them, you give them joy, you give them encouragement, that you would inspire them to finish whatever they just started. That’s what you care about. God give them the strength. God give them joy, because joy is our strength. Give them joy to finish this marathon of life and wherever they’re walking. Amen.

Coming Out Of Your Dry Season

Where you find water, you can’t find drought. The reverse is true as well. Sometimes, we find ourselves in a season where we feel empty. We feel far from God. We hardly understand His will in our lives. Our feelings, our progress, and everything… all dry. It is a season where we try to understand who we are, but we simply can’t discover who we are. We are dry. Dry emotionally, dry physically and dry spiritually.

Many of us don’t know what to do during our dry season. This can be because we lack motivation. We only see our current situation. However, for the children of God, a dry season is a season of preparation. Thus, during a dry season we can still find a drop of water because we know where the source is.

What should we do when we find ourselves in a dry season?

The first thing we have to do is reset our focus on the Living Water. We may not see the water pouring out now, but focusing on the Living Water, which is God, found in his Word, enables us to generate a new Spirit. We start believing in the promises of God. During the dry season, as Children of God, we are hoping for the fulfillment of God’s promises. A drop of water could revitalize our faith. Emotionally dry, one taste from God’s Word, we become fortified emotionally. When we are physically dry, with the taste from God’s Word, we start smiling. It’s true when we are spiritually dry, too. One taste and we start sharing our faith with others. In short, it is the taste of the Living Water that sustains us through dry seasons.

Getting Strong during your dry season

In dry season, the Living Water causes the weak to be strong, the sad to rejoice and the hopeless to be hopeful. During a dry season, it is important we drink from this Living Water daily. In fact, we should drink as much as possible because it does not go empty. This means we have to study the Scripture daily. Studying alone will not appease our thirst. We must apply this in our lives by pouring the water into the drought. Don’t drink it only to satisfy your thirst, pass it on as well. Try to give others a taste of the Living Water.

A dry season is the phase of waiting for God’s intervention, fulfillment of His promise and the revelation of his Word. While waiting; drink and grow, so that you can handle your next promotion.

How do YOU want to be remembered?

Unfortunately, as humans, we find more delight in dwelling on the negative instead of the positive. We gravitate more towards bad news, than good news. We enjoy talking about each other in critical ways, more than discussing the good in someone. I mean, really, do you ever hear people sitting around talking about how awesome someone is? Generally it is more, “Did you hear that so and so did THIS? And what’s his name had the nerve to do THAT…blah blah blah.”

I figure there is a distinct possibility when I am gone from this earth, I may only be remembered for the black marks on my life. My mistakes, bad choices, failures, stupid moves, and on and on. Ugh. So, go ahead. Take note of ALL of them. Count them one by one if you want. THEN remember this above all of that: SHE MADE MISTAKES, BAD CHOICES, STUPID MOVES…BUT SHE NEVER GAVE UP.

To me, THAT is what I want to be remembered for.

We each have a road to walk; we all wish we knew THEN what we know NOW.

(sigh)

I have come to the conclusion that I cannot offer others the idea that life is easy or predictable, without suffering, or without black marks. What I CAN offer is that GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION.

You fell? Get up. You failed? Try again. You made a bad choice? Make a good one. You did something stupid? Own it.

I will never offer my inspirational thoughts from a “perfect life”. I don’t live in a white house with a white picket fence. You know what? I used to WANT to. In fact, that was my goal in life. Now, I am grateful that I have hit the dirt, that I have felt like the scum on the bottom of the barrel, or wad of gum stuck to a shoe. It has taught me compassion. It has taught me endurance. It has taught me not to judge. It has taught me that there is ALWAYS tomorrow to try again.

So, how do I want to be remembered? That I may have been a hot mess, but I never gave up!
