When his first love broke his heart, Judah turned to alcohol and embraced a party lifestyle to numb the pain. His story illustrates how God can make a person whole again after experiencing heartbreak.
Lost Love Broke His Heart
Judah Lupasella was not always an unruly partygoer. Raised in a Christian environment, Judah made an early profession of faith and was baptized at the age of 13. He fell in love during his junior year in high school, believing he had found “the one,” and their bond quickly became physical.
“We kind of think like, I can go to first base and second base and third base. But as long as I don’t hit a home run, I am staying sexually pure. And that is not true at all. My foundation, all that I was, was based on that relationship,” he said.
And then, the girl unexpectedly broke up with Judah after only four months of dating. It devastated him. It felt like his world was falling apart. To numb the pain, Judah turned to different vices. Almost every weekend, he drank and smoked weed.
A Different Lifestyle
“I just entered a lifestyle of just getting absolutely slammed and plastered and my mindset was just like, ‘Screw it. I don’t even care anymore. I’m just so hurt by this. I’m just gonna hook up. I don’t wanna have a relationship. And I don’t want to get hurt anymore. I just wanna party,’” he recalled.
Judah kept his double life hidden from his parents and often lied to them about his whereabouts. However, his mother suspected that something was amiss.

“M: There were lots of nights I woke up in the middle of the night and I just felt called to pray for him and I would pray for him a lot. I also wanted him to know that I loved him and that I was there for him,” his mother said.
Judah became preoccupied with his appearance and strived for the ideal body. He exercised, followed a strict diet, and even tried steroids to enhance his physique. However, he was never satisfied with the results. After a wild night out, he ultimately decided to call it quits.
Lost Love Broke His Heart, But God Made Him Whole Again
“I was just at a point of, ‘This is just not fulfilling me. This is just so empty.’ I remember just literally being in a bathroom, literally screaming, ‘God change me.’ It was a cry of desperation. I felt broken. I have nowhere else to look but God,” he said.
A few days later, a friend invited him to a Christian camp meeting. Judah felt guilty about his sinful lifestyle and for merely paying lip service to God during the nightly worship. He understood that he needed to surrender all control over his life. Upon returning home, Judah promptly confided in his mother about his transgressions.
From that night on, Judah fully committed himself to God. He was rebaptized, and his behavior underwent a transformation. He is now happily married and dedicated to God. Judah finds joy in sharing stories of how God, when no one else could, filled the void in his heart.
“Nothing in this world can compare to what he has to offer. When I look in the mirror, now I just see someone that God loves enough that even though he knew all the mistakes I’d make, and even still mistakes that I do make, that I was worth dying for,” he concluded.
