God’s Word For You Today: Push Past Fear

Today’s Verses

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:4)

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Today’s Message

Fear is an emotion normal to the human experience! It tells our brains that there is a risk present. Fear, like any emotion, is a signal for us to act upon! It helps give us a pulse on how our hearts and minds are doing. Many believers in the body of Christ experience fear, but remain stuck inside it, forgetting that God can help in the midst of fear! Instead of doing what God tells us, we choose to let fear lead us. When we could take our fears to the Lord, asking for His guidance, we keep God in His proper place of our lives. We ensure that Holy Spirit, not fear is our leader. Consider your life today: are there places that you have allowed fear to lead you? If so, you’re not alone! Everyone feels fear. The difference in a fear-filled life, rather than a faith-filled one, is what you do with that fear. Pray today, repenting to God for allowing fear to lead you. Ask Holy Spirit to teach you how to respond to your fears! He will equip you to do things, even afraid! And you will reap the reward of living with an ear inclined to His voice above all the rest.

What Do Fear And Faith Have In Common?

In an episode of Therefore, Go, the founder and head of Daniel K Norris Ministries shares some tips on how to overcome fear. He also encourages everyone to share the Gospel with everyone around them because everyone is called by God to do so.

“The moment that you gave your heart to Jesus, you became a full-time minister,” he said.

“Fear is Faith”

Daniel then revealed that “fear is faith” and that they share something in common. According to the Oxford Dictionary, fear is defined as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat.” While faith is defined as a belief and confidence toward God. They both are beliefs but are pointed in different directions.

“Fear is not the opposite of faith, fear is faith…Fear is a belief, it’s faith pointed in the wrong direction,” Daniel explained. “So, you and I what’s we’ve got to do in our life is to take our fears, our fear of sharing our faith, and point it in the right direction.”

Overcoming fear

Fear makes you a coward and stops you from doing the things the Lord has called you to do. It is an emotion that people normally feel, but the Lord wants you not to dwell in fear.

“God’s not made you a coward, He’s not put you in a place where you’re constantly living in a spot of fear. God does not promise that you’ll never experience the emotion of fear. What He promises is that you don’t live in the environment of fear.”

So whenever you start to feel fear, overcome it by being confident in the power of God. Supernatural things are bound to happen when we manage to overcome our fears!

“Whenever you start feeling fear, come into play, that’s giving you an indication that you’ve stepped into the environment of faith. And when you’re in the environment of faith, the supernatural begins to happen.”

Reframe! How To Move From Fear To Faith For The Future

Five years ago we started LAUNCH based on the premise that it’s not the direction of the wind but the set of your sail that determines your direction and destination.

That message and mentality matters more this year than ever – which is why joining us for those two days could change everything for you and your team now and for 2021.

We live in uncertain times. The uncertainty invites fear – showing up as stress and suffering, and leading to scarcity thinking. Even something as benign as checking the news or scrolling through social media raises the heart beat when we’re constantly assailed by everything that is (or could be) wrong with the world.

But God has not given us a Spirit of fear. And you can’t be fruitful and fearful at the same time.

That’s why it’s vital, before this year is out – that you REFRAME.

When you step back and consider the nature of fear, you’re looking at the world through a particular set of lenses, and it’s time for a reframe.

When you look up and consider the size of our God, or try to measure the dimensions of his love or power, or realise you’re seated now in heavenly places – you’re left with the most important choice of all to consider as you look toward 2021.

Will you panic or pray? Worry or worship? Act out of fear or faith? Is the end or a new beginning?

Nothing could be more important – and the answers you give will determine your actions, and it will always be about how you see:

REFRAME GOD

Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. 2 Chronicles 20:6 NIV

Is your God too small? Is Christ the big C for you – or Covid 19? Reframe!

REFRAME PEOPLE

God our Saviour…who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Tim 2:4

Is it harder to reach people now the world has changed? Or are they more ready than ever for good news?

REFRAME CHURCH

Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12

Have the greater works stopped now – or are we just getting started? Is the church done because the number of ‘church goers’ has further declined in the west or because we’ve had to close some buildings?

Or could this be the renewal or revival we’ve been praying would come? Will we reject it because it doesn’t suit us or look like we expected or wanted it?

We may not be able to control the events that happen in the world, but we do get to decide how we respond.

A REFRAME gives you change to reset, renew, reconfigure, rebuild, restructure, reimagine, reinvent.

This is how the worst of times can become the best of times. No matter what chaos – there’s a plan, no matter what adversity or adversary, there’s an assurance; God is the Sovereign Lord and wants his people to overcome whatever we undergo, not as victims but victorious in the end.

Fear looks at the future in ways that rob the present. Faith looks back through history and to scripture, sees the faithfulness of God and gives him what you can’t control – then everything shifts. A REFRAME will take you from fear to faith, even in the most turbulent of times.

Our speakers this year are as incredible a list as any other year and engaging with them interactively online will help you create more change, make more of a difference, and have more of an impact on others and on the world than ever before. But rather than focus on them, pray and ask God if you should join hundreds already booked in from around the world who are ready for a REFRAME. I hope you will!

Truth Overrides Facts – A Testimony Of God’s Intervention

Lesa’s son, Brandon was a drug addict, but she refused to stop trusting God for his deliverance. In the process she learned that when it comes to God, truth overrides facts.

“The truth (what God says about a situation or a condition) overrides the facts!” says Kris Valloton of Bethel Church, Redding, CA. This is not just a powerful statement it is truth. I was reminded of this again recently when the following post from July 2012, came through my Facebook memories feed.

In my own life, I’ve had to use the truth against both the lies of the enemy and also the factual circumstances opposing me. I know from personal experience this is not always easy. It requires effort and faith! I shared in an earlier post for GOD TV Hope Remains about our son Brandon’s heroin addiction and how hopeless it looked. He had literally become a shell of his former self and had overdosed several times!

But, finally after a long losing battle with addiction, Brandon, (with his probation officer’s permission) entered a regeneration program at Dunklin Memorial Camp in Okeechobee, FL. This was something we’d been praying and pushing for during the past few years. At last, he was there. He was safe. He was clean.

Breakthrough! We were rejoicing over the positive changes we were seeing in our son in only four weeks. And then… his probation officer violated him and he was arrested and extradited to another county to await trial. To say that I was devastated would be an understatement. But God is so merciful and filled with tender kindness, while even in my heartache and crying out Why? Why now? Abba sent us the scripture from Jeremiah 29:11-14. I was well familiar with verse 11, but as I was reading I felt Him prod me to continue down the page:

A promise from God

” ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord ‘I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land’.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

I felt the Father was promising me that not only did He have a plan for my son, He was going to bring him out of captivity. I grabbed onto this word and hid it in my heart. It was certainly tested over the next several weeks.

Meanwhile, (During the time of the above post), Brandon was back in jail, awaiting trial on 13 violations and was promised a prison sentence this time around. When he would speak to me on the phone, he tried to prepare me, “Mom, you need to prepare yourself, the Public Defender is saying it doesn’t look good. I’m probably going away for seven years, maybe 15.”

I knew what the judge overseeing his case had promised him. I also knew what I felt God had promised me. Even with fear trying to grip my heart and doubt knocking loudly, I responded, “I can’t hear that, son. I cannot receive that. I am believing for a miracle.”

Truth overrides facts

Long story shortened, for the sake of this blog, our day came in court and Brandon was given a 7-year prison sentence, but God influenced the judge to suspend it in lieu of him returning to Dunklin and completing the program, house arrest and terms of the 5-year probation followed it with fines. Any failure to comply would have lifted the suspension and the seven years would have had to be served behind bars! God knew what He was doing and whom the Son sets free is free indeed!

This summer when the post came through my feed marked seven years! Instead of prison Brandon was home with his wife Julie, building their family, relationship with God and serving in ministry both here and around the world!

We don’t just use the truth against lies, we also use it against fact! The fact is our son may have deserved prison but the truth is God’s mercies are new every morning!

The fact may be that your son or daughter is an addict, but the truth is whom the Son sets free is free indeed!

The fact may be that you have cancer but the truth is by HIS stripes we were healed!

The fact may be that your bank account and cupboards are empty but the truth is God is Jehovah Jireh – the God who provides.

The truth is, God is filled with compassion towards us, toward you. Hold onto the promise of His word and the promise He has given you. Use that truth not only against the lies the enemy throws at you but also facts. Truth trumps… outweighs… overrides facts!

Choose To Be Brave

My 12 year granddaughter used to be afraid to step foot on a boat, was afraid of the water, didn’t like crowds (almost claustrophobic), and she is one of THE bravest people I know.

Wait. Brave? Didn’t you just say she was afraid of quite a few things? Yes. I watched her get on a big boat, crying and clutching the side with white knuckles. But she did it. Then I watched her progress to climbing in a big rubber raft dragged behind a speeding boat, not crying but clutching the side with white knuckles. But she did it. Then I watched her walk into an auditorium crammed with people, apprehensively making her way through the stifling crowds with some tears and more white knuckles. But she did it. Now she is the one who walks out in the dark alone (in a storm) to feed her barn animals. I was thinking as I watched her – wow. I couldn’t have done that at her age! So when she came in I said to her – “You are so brave!” To which she quickly answered, “I don’t feel brave. I carry a baseball bat!”

I learned something right there. Brave is NOT a feeling – Brave is a choice. She was afraid of boats, so she chose to ride on one. (Now she loves them!) She was afraid of the water, so she chose to be pulled in a rubber raft behind a speeding boat. (Now she begs to go!) She was claustrophobic in crowds so she chose to meet people one on one, face-to-face. (Now she’s sought out by others for her loving heart.) And she chose to be responsible to care for farm animals alone in the dark, so she carries a bat!

David the shepherd boy probably didn’t FEEL brave when he looked up at Goliath (you know, the GIANT). He surely felt very small (literally), BUT he CHOSE to be brave; to be the ONLY one who would face the giant. He CHOSE to put himself in harm’s way. He CHOSE to take a risk. (Again, key word GIANT. I have a visual of how he could have stepped on poor little David.)

We all have moments (or even just ONE) where we can be swallowed up by fear of the unknown, and it can paralyze us from maybe THE single greatest moment of our life.

Maybe you want to write a book, go be a singer in Nashville, become a great artist, feed the hungry, travel the world, join the military, save the dolphins, be a missionary to parts unknown, stand for a cause you believe in, or just be the best security guard in LA. Whatever you choose to do, choose to be BRAVE.

“And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them.” (Hebrews 11-32-37)

The definition of BRAVE is: ready to face and endure danger or pain; to endure being uncomfortable; willing to pay the price.

Don’t just hope to feel brave – CHOOSE it!

In the words of John Wayne, ”Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways.”

And carry a baseball bat if need be!

Queen Esther is IN the House

An orphan girl who would grow up to be a queen. Sounds like the beginning of any happily-ever-after movie I have ever seen. But it just happens to NOT be a Disney movie. It is the true story of my own personal super hero: the only REAL Wonder Woman. I don’t have posters of her or a collectible doll in a princess gown or a glittery tea set in her honor. (though this is NOT a bad idea.)

Her name is not Moana or Ariel or Cinderella.

It’s Esther. And THIS is her story. Oh, and it is a TRUE story.

Enter, a little girl skipping through the streets, carefree and happy, and not dreaming about princess gowns and magic wands and handsome princes. She was probably happy just breathing the fresh air, picking flowers, and skipping stones. Then tragedy struck and both of her parents were taken from her, and she became an orphan. This happens every day all over the world: children are left behind as death snatches their beloved parents away.
Stop right here and see the unseen hand of God begin to write a beautiful story.

First of all, you need to know that Esther was born into a Jewish family, living in the land of Persia. Remember this. When her parents died her Uncle Mordecai stepped up to the plate to become her guardian and take care of her, raising her in the same way her parents would have. (THIS is so huge – when there is a void and someone steps into it, it becomes nothing short of hero status. You might be that hero to someone – maybe you have wondered if it matters that you are ‘just’ the stepparent or ‘just’ the grandparent or ‘just’ the voice of reason and love to someone else. It matters. And yes, YOU are a hero. Heroes reproduce heroes.)
There came a day – a day that began a great journey for Esther. It would rival any 21st century reality show, similar to the Bachelor. Hear THIS script! The King of Persia decided he was done with his current wife Queen Vashti, so he sent her packing. He then had his soldiers round up ALL the beautiful girls of his kingdom, to bring them to the palace to spend 12 months in preparation for their chance to stand before the King! Comparable to a Miss Universe pageant maybe? And Esther was one of those girls who went off to have her shot at being the new queen.

Uncle Mordecai instructed Esther NOT to reveal to anyone that she was a Jew. Uh oh. Why? Because the Jews were enemies of the Persians, and not supposed to be living in their kingdom. So, mum’s the word for Esther.

“Esther had not revealed her people or her family, for Mordecai had charged her not to reveal it.” (Esther 2:10)

I LOVE this story so much – Esther, the orphan. Gets the chance to become a queen! This leaves all possibilities of this life open wide to anyone!

Historical accounts tell us Esther was very beautiful. I am guessing all the girls were beautiful and the competition was tough. If there are 100 gorgeous girls, who have been bathed in precious oils and ointments, dressed in beautiful regal attire more beautiful than any ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ gowns, then how in the world would Esther even have a chance? It was not her hairstyle or her flawless make up and her perfect figure or her expensive scent or her beautiful gown – it was her HEART. Esther’s pure heart set her towering above ALL the other girls.

“So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace… The King loved Esther more than all the other women and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so he set the royal crown upon her head.” (Esther 2:17)

And right there, with the setting of a crown, is the unseen hand of God AGAIN, continuing to write a beautiful story of love and hope and fierce courage.

Fierce courage? Yes. For Esther’s happily ever after to happen, she would need fierce courage. Remember, she is still a Jew living in enemy land. She carries that huge secret within her soul every single day.
Fast forward to the bad guy in this story – Haman. Oh yeah – this story has ALL the stuff a captivating story is made of – the good guys, the bad guys, betrayal, secrets, love, the crowning of a queen, and – THIS. Because Haman was a bad guy he orchestrated an evil plan to exterminate ALL the Jews that were dwelling in Persia, and he convinced the King to make this a LAW – and it was decided and declared that ALL the Jews would be killed. Um, whoa. Remember? His new queen is a Jew. (He just does NOT know this.)

Mordecai gently but firmly tells her she has to tell the King her true identity. My guess from reading the scriptures is, she was terror stricken. This is the SAME King who threw out his first wife because of a much lesser evil. So, Queen Esther asked her people to pray and fast for 3 days and ask God to intervene on her behalf, because she was going to enter his chambers and tell him that his new wife was a JEW. He had passed an edict/a law that would kill her. She knew she needed supernatural help!
Here comes the fierce courage. Here comes the unseen hand of God again. Why had He placed a little girl in the care of her uncle; why her humility from being an orphan had served her well, why her pure heart was what won a king’s heart, why she was married to an anti-semetic King? See anything like this in YOUR own life? Stories take TIME to play out; trust the process.

THIS is my favorite part of the whole story. THIS is where Queen Esther becomes the Biblical version of Wonder Woman! The doors to the throne room swing open and a trembling, scared to death on the inside young woman, faces what could be her own death. You must remember it was against the law to enter the King’s throne room without being summoned. The penalty could be death. She remembers the words of her Uncle Mordecai who said to her, “Who knows but what YOU have come into the kingdom for SUCH A TIME AS THIS..” (Esther 4:14) She takes a deep breath, and begins what probably seemed like THE longest short walk EVER! Her thought? “If I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:16) BUT I’M DOING IT ANYWAYS. That my friend, is FIERCE COURAGE. It is when you are scared down to your core but you do it anyways! Like Francesca Battistelli’s current song – The Breakup Song – “Fear, you don’t own me – there ain’t no room in this story…guess what ? I KNOW WHO I AM…I know I’m strong, brave and I am free; I got my own identity… Goodbye fear, you will NEVER be welcome here.” Esther and Francesca would have probably been best friends.

And what happened next is the BAM moment. The very short version is: Because Esther had already won the King’s heart and his favor, he extended his scepter of favor to her, and assured her that whatever she wanted, she could ask of him. (whew)

Finally she was able to expose Haman’s evil plot to kill all the Jews while at the same time exposing her own identity as being ONE OF THEM. (If you want to read all the juicy details, find a Bible and read the book of Esther. It’s only 10 chapters.) She had lived her whole life for this one moment! THIS was her purpose and her WHY. The bad guy was killed (a public hanging on the gallows) because “…he tried to lay his hand on the Jews.” AND THEN – the King wrote a new decree and spared the Jews from annihilation! “On the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overcome them, the opposite occurred, in that the Jews themselves overpowered those who hated them.” (Esther 9:1) It is similar or exactly the same as when the enemy of our soul devises an evil plot against us to destroy US, but GOD Himself revokes it.

It is hard to stop talking about this girl Esther. My hero. My role model. The story that makes my heart swell with fierce courage for my own life to accomplish my OWN purpose and my own WHY. I hope it does the same for YOU. One more time: “Yet who knows whether you, [insert your name] have come to the kingdom for SUCH A TIME AS THIS?”

Radical Makeovers Redefines Beauty

Makeovers, photo shoots, and adventures. It’s all in this new series launching on GOD TV on Monday January 22 at 10.30pm. Produced by filmmaker, Rebecca Friedlander, Radical Makeovers features the transformational stories of 30 young women from different countries.

“I travel the world with my camera uncovering the real definition of what it means to be beautiful,” says Rebecca, “Together we are redefining beauty as we hear the stories of girls who have been made over inside out by God the author of beauty.”

Rebecca is also a worship leader and artist who uses clay to share Scriptural truths in a unique way. She uses her potter’s wheel as a powerful illustration of God as the Potter and His people as His clay. This theme runs throughout the Radical Makeovers series as lives are changed, remodelled and God makes everything beautiful in His time.
