A children’s pastor, Jessica Jernigan, shared a beautiful story of faith and obedience. It happened 13 years ago when God asked her to give away her car to a 16-year-old boy. For her, it was one of her wildest experiences.

When she told the kid’s mother what God said, the mother wept uncontrollably. The boy had just lost his father, who happened to be a car guy. His mother had no idea how she could give her son a car. What he wanted was a Mustang, and Jessica’s car happened to be the same model.

“It was absolutely the hand of God from the time that I did it to the point that I handed the keys over,” she shared.

A Miraculous Provision Happened

Furthermore, her story didn’t end there. After that, she experienced a miraculous provision. She realized that she needed a car. While looking for a new one, she talked to her cousin, who knew some stuff about cars. She told him about her budget and the exact model she wanted. Then, they went to a car lot, and she found the car of her dreams.

“It was amazing, and it was out of my price range. Um, so I was like, well, let’s test drive it and see if, like, I even like this car type. It was a Honda Accord. I was so excited. Get in the car, loved it,” she recalled.

Sadly, she returned and told the dealer it wasn’t within her budget. Then, the man mentioned that the car had been on the lot for 90 days and wanted to sell it. So, he offered her a new price, which was $9,000, exactly matching her budget.

Moreover, she realized that it was God’s provision all along the way. She knew that God wasn’t just aware of what she needed, but He also noticed the mother and the young boy who wanted to have a car. Simultaneously, God also saw the car dealer who wanted to sell it. He perfectly orchestrated everything.

In one of their recorded podcasts, John and Lisa Bevere discuss the power of long-term obedience and how attitude matters in following God.

On their YouTube channel, “Conversations with John & Lisa Bevere,” the couple shared how Jesus modeled true obedience when He died on the cross for the world to be saved.

“So true humility is our absolute complete utter dependence on God. That means we want to obey Him more than we want to do what we want to do. So Jesus chose that,” John said.

The couple then explained how significant Jesus’ obedience was. He was in the garden, fighting for three hours in prayer, asking God if there was any other way to fulfill the salvation of humanity other than what He was about to go through.

The Bible says that He sweat great drops of blood, and then the writer of Hebrews says “You haven’t strived against the temptation to do your own thing to the point of bloodshed.”

“In other words, he’s talking about the great drops of blood Jesus sweated in the garden fighting with the temptation of self-benefit and self-preservation,” John explained. “But He humbled Himself in obedience to God and He died on the criminal’s death on the cross.”

The couple then emphasized the importance of obeying God even when He seems absent. It’s easy to obey Him when we sense His presence and everything is going great. However, God requires us to obey, especially when we can’t sense His presence.

John And Lisa Bevere Talks About The Power Of Long Term Obedience

John shared his experience about obeying God and not receiving rewards. He mentioned that attitude also matters.

“I said to God, ‘Why aren’t I receiving from You? Why? It just seemed like the heavens were blocked off. I’m not getting blessed.’ And He said, ‘It’s because of your attitude.’ And I said, ‘What? I do everything You told me to do. I am so obedient.’ He said, ‘You are obedient John, but your attitude stinks.”

One can obey with an unwilling heart, but God is looking for willingness in a person.

“Willingness deals with our attitude. So God not only expects us to obey but to obey with joy. To obey with pleasure,” John said.

Newly-Married Couple Struggled To Pay Debt, Until They Did This One Thing

A newly-married couple faced financial struggles due to their debt, but they experienced a blessing from God the moment they chose to obey Him.

Life As A Newly-Married Couple

Carmen Woodkirk embarked on her career as a crime scene investigator after completing college. In 2014, she married David, and he decided to leave his job in New York to start their new life together. However, David struggled to find employment in their new location, leading to several months of job search. As a result, the couple found themselves burdened with a significant debt of $50,000, stemming from educational loans, credit cards, and auto payments.

“We were trying to survive. I would say anywhere from two to $600 short every month,” David said.

While Carmen recalled, “I remember all we had in our refrigerator was like ketchup and eggs.”

Carmen took on positions as an adjunct instructor at two different universities, while David resorted to taking various odd jobs. However, despite the additional income, their financial difficulties continued to persist. As a result, David began experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, and stress.

The couple realized that they needed to make a change in their financial situation. David, who had been taught the value of tithing from a young age, suggested that they begin practicing it.

“I was really working off of my own strength, my own knowledge, rather than allowing God to take precedence over every area of my life,” Carmen said.

Newly-Married Couple Struggled To Pay Debt

David shared that they both made a deliberate decision to prioritize tithing before paying their bills. As a result of their obedience, they experienced a shift in their perspective about money, which was a blessing from God.

“I felt that a heavy weight had been lifted upon me. I felt more hopeful,” Carmen said.

Carmen received a 15% raise at her job, and David found stable employment, marking an end to their monthly losses. David secured a position as a construction safety officer, while Carmen successfully obtained her desired role as a DNA analyst. They seized these unexpected opportunities to address their financial obligations.

“We were able to pay off about $35,000 in one year. There’s more money that we get to play with in our budget and we’ve been able to give more,” Carmen said.

The Importance Of Obedience

They firmly believed that tithing and faithfully obeying God transformed their lives. As a result, they have become debt-free, and their income has significantly multiplied over time.

“It was reassurance just knowing that God was always going to take care of us. God is going to reward your obedience and faithfulness,” David said.

“God says “test me in this one area.” Watch Him what He’s going to do in your life and with your tithe and the impact that He’s going to make. I think it’s going to blow your mind,” Carmen concluded

According to the 28-year-old influencer, individuals are not obligated to provide God with an explanation for everything. Instead, she suggests that it is truly commendable for a person to trust in God even in times of limited understanding.

“First comes the trust without really even knowing all the details for the understanding to come after that,” she remarked.

The senior pastor of the Pillar Church preached about how different God’s system is from the world. If people tend to give oil based on the size of someone’s gift, God does not. He measures a person’s obedience and not the gift.

“This is what most of us think,” he shared. “The more gifted someone is, the more oil God gives them access to.”

He continued, “Let me tell you something. God doesn’t look at the size of someone’s gift and give them oil based on it. God measures man’s obedience and gives oil based on that.”

The oil of God

Pastor Preston went on to explain how to access the oil of God. “One of the fastest ways to get access to oil is to obey. So, maybe you’re in a place where you say, ‘Preston, I haven’t been under the oil. I felt it before but I haven’t been under the oil in months and months and months.’ One of the questions I would ask is, ‘Where’s your level of obedience? Is it partial? Is it occasional? Maybe that’s why rarely experiencing the unbridled anointing of heaven.'”

Furthermore, he made sure that every listener would not get him wrong but will receive his point clearly. He said, “I’m not coming at you. I’m not trying to step on your toes. I want you to always be to stand under the unbridled anointing of heaven, to do whatever God desires be done on the earth through you in such a way that it brings Him more glory. I want that for you.

“But you’re never going to be able to His things as long as you keep trying to do things your way. The most obedient typically end up being the most anointed.”

Nathalie shared how her obedience resulted in some people criticizing her, not understanding the weight of what God had spoken to her. But no matter what the price , she still chose to obey the voice of God.

“I’ve made some pretty big steps of obedience in the last seven years and it hasn’t always made sense to those on the outside. I’ve been critiqued, cautioned, canceled, and criticized. Had I listened to the critics I would have missed the call of my Creator to obedience to His voice, not their heckling and questioning.”

Nathalie then spoke to those who are currently faced with big decisions. She encouraged everyone to be brave and carry on with what God was calling them to do.

“I know some of us are making some big decisions right now and obedience isn’t popular. It will require leaving, moving, and growing up and people don’t always know what to do when we grow- you can’t wait for them to figure it out. Be brave, Stayers. Obedience will cost us our comfort and the comfort of others- carry on and carry through.”

No matter what the cost we had to pay, our prize will surely be all worth it. Jesus is the prize of our obedience.

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, ears tuned to His voice, heart glued to His Word, soul clenching His promises. Obedience is necessary for this adventure we are on – hands up, stomach in our throats – what a ride it is!”

In one of his messages, he pointed out that obeying God will involve trusting Him despite the difficult times.

“Well, if you obey God, it’s not always going to be easy,” he reminded. “In fact, sometimes, you think you just can’t do it.”

But Dr. Stanley encouraged that although obeying God may get hard, it will be worth it.

He continued, “But that’s when you have to have the courage to believe that God is who He says He is. And that He’ll do what He says He’ll do.”

Moreover, Dr. Stanley shared a life-worth of discovery if people will start obeying God in whatever circumstance.

“If you will begin purposefully obeying God in a difficult time in your life, here’s what you’re going to discover. You’re going to discover this is the way to live.”

In obeying God, things may not go as expected but Dr. Stanley reminded the believers that God will never fail.

“You may get disappointed, but it won’t be because He didn’t keep His word. God will keep His word if you will obey because God is faithful and God is true to His word. Trust Him.”

As Proverbs 3:5-6 say, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

He added, “You can’t ever go wrong trusting God.”

Lee Strobel’s Conversation With Atheist Friend Was Actually For Someone Else

Lee Strobel, the award-winning author and evangelist, shared how his obedience to God actually impacted a family who never knew Jesus. His church invitation to an atheist friend was actually for someone else.

The author of “The Case for Christ” recalled his wonderful testimony that will surely inspire others to obey God.

Strobel shared that he was still a new believer in Christ when he heard God’s voice. The instruction was to go back to their office and invite his atheist friend to church for the Easter service. And so, he obeyed God.

He told his friend about Easter and how Christians celebrated the day of Jesus’ resurrection. Strobel even pointed out evidence that proved Jesus was resurrected. Then he invited him to church. But, to his surprise, his friend was just shutting him down.

Confused by God’s instruction, Strobel left. He thought, “What was that about? Why did I feel so specifically compelled to go and invite him to Easter services and talk about resurrection? I’d shared the Gospel with him, and he just shuts me down.”

The experience bothered him for years because his friend is still an atheist to this day.

Fruit of Obedience

But four years later, a man came up to him after service and greeted him. He said, “Thank you for the spiritual influence you’ve had in my life.”

Strobel replied, “That’s nice, but who are you?”

The guy then introduced himself. He recalled his first meeting with the author. “One day, not long before Easter,” the man was working in the office where Strobel worked.

He went on to describe Strobel coming in and talking to his atheist friend. The man revealed he was listening to their conversation the whole time.

Although his friend was shutting him down, the man was convicted by what he heard. “My heart was beating fast,” he recalled. “I’m thinking, I need God.”

“I called my wife, and I said, ‘We’re going to church this Easter.”

He continued, “We came to your church at Easter. I came to faith. My wife came to faith, and our teenage son came to faith. And I just wanted to thank you.”

Our obedience to God may not produce the fruit that we expected, but God’s purpose will surely prevail. We only need to trust Him and obey!
