A mother was freed from addiction when she was about to lose her kids to her ex-husband.
She Almost Lost Her Kids
Maria Beltran and her ex-husband were taking drugs even before they had children. It was something that was part of their lives.
And so when they had kids, it was hard for them to quit.
“I remember my kids seeing me smoke a cigarette, and they wanted me to stop smoking,” Maria said.
She tried quitting, but it wasn’t easy. Being brought up in a tough home environment exposed Maria to many negative things.
But when a huge fight happened between her and her husband, it was huge to the point that the police got involved, it became Maria’s wake-up call to do better.

“I realized too that they’re watching. So, I feel terrible, and I guess I just try to be a better parent. That wasn’t the life that I was trying to give them,” she said.
But Maria was afraid to lose her child if she was tested for drug use. She knew she had drugs in her system, and it made her feel dirty and unworthy.

“I thought that the DHS was going to drug test me. I thought I messed up, I’m not clean, and I’m going to lose the kids. That’s why I prayed so hard. I asked God to help me with the situation,” she said.
“And I didn’t get drug tested. It was weird, because it was supposed to happen but it never happened. But ever since then I was like, “I’m not going to be dirty again.” Because it was a risk I didn’t want to take and it was like a wake-up call,” she added.
Mother Was Freed From Addiction & Was Saved
“You could lose your kids for the things you’re doing. And I was praying so hard, and that’s how I ended up going to church. I want to give back to God by listening to Him, because He had done that for me. When I was struggling with my separation and losing my kids, I was afraid of that. I thought I was messing it up for them and providing a broken home as well.
“When I was really down and I was needing to find help, I went to the church. It wasn’t much like material or financial help; it was a help for myself, like my emotions and my mental well-being.
“I know that Jesus has changed me. I know I’m not the same person that I used to be, and every day I know that I’m a better person. Every day I reset and try again to be better. And I know who I am now. So, He has changed me and given me that hope and strength that I need,” Maria said.
