The Minnesota Vikings defeated the New Orleans Saints in the NFL playoffs on Sunday. Vikings’ Kirk Cousins, who led the team in victory, glorified God in a postgame interview.
It was Kirk’s 43-yard pass and the team’s follow up touchdown that gave Minnesota a 26-20 overtime win in the opening round of the playoffs against Saints. For the first time in playoffs, Minnesota won in overtime.
Kirk Cousins Faith-Filled Postgame Interview
And in a postgame interview by FOX’s Chris Myers, Kirk Cousins shared about God when asked about his role as a quarterback.
“Ultimately, it’s about team,” he told Chris. “And I’m just trying to do my part for this team [and] help us win. Quarterback carries weight. That comes with the job. Like you said, my faith is important to me. It’s the foundation of my life. And ultimately, that’s where I gain my peace and strength. Win or lose today, God is still on the throne, and I take comfort in that.”
Kirk has always been known for his deep faith.
“Micah 6:8 ‘What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy & walk humbly with your God.'” Kirk wrote on his Twitter bio.
Following God Is His Priority
And in 2018 he revealed in an interview with Sports Spectrum that following God is the foundation of his life.
“The ultimate foundation of my life is to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus. And that means so much more than just checking a box and saying you’re a Christian,” he said.
He also shared how his heart on what it means to him to please God.
“God is so much bigger than pleasing a boss or pleasing a teacher or winning a group of friends.”
“God is so much bigger than that. He can lead you to the right people. He can create the right environment, the right situation, the right college opportunity. You don’t have to bend over to the ways of the world. You can work and strive to please the Lord and then He will make things work out for you in turn,” he added.
