Mary Kay took to Instagram to share an adorable moment she had with her nephew, James Atkinson. In the video, baby James was seen crying, instead of soothing him or rocking him, his aunt Mary prompted Siri to play the worship song “Jireh” by Maverick City Music.

The music played and in a matter of seconds, the infant stopped crying. His facial expression showed how intrigued and soothed he is by the worship song. Apparently, that was the music his mother, Feryn, used to play while she was pregnant with baby James.

“When my sister @ferynheit was pregnant with my nephew, she played Jireh by @maverickcitymusic her entire pregnancy,” Mary wrote.

Today, more than a year after he was born, baby James still remembers the song and it soothes him.

“Now, every time he cries, I play it for him and he stops. He knows that’s his song,” she added.

The Maverick City Music reshared Mary’s post saying that this moment is “the absolute sweetest.”

The video of baby James and his aunt Mary has now gone viral with over 111,000 post engagements.

Baby James recently celebrated his first birthday last April and everyone who loves him expressed how blessed they are with him.

“I am so happy and blessed that I get to be your mommy, it’s most definitely an honor. I thank God you made it to your first year of life and I pray you have so many more birthdays on this earth. I love you sweet little Bubba baby, more than you could ever know,” Feryn wrote.

High School Choir Performs Worship Song “Jireh”

A high school choir performed the worship song “Jireh” by Maverick City.

The Lord rejoices when young people boldly profess His name and boldly worship Him. The youth are called to be an example of how a believer passionately loves Jesus. “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” -1 Timothy 4:12

It is moving to see how young people are worshipping the Lord in public places too. These high school students from Menchville High School in Newport News, Virginia sang a worship song during a choral performance inside their school auditorium.

“Jireh” by Maverick City

The choral group sang the song “Jireh” by Maverick City. It is a song about God’s provision in every circumstance. The word “Jireh” means “the Lord will provide” according to the Scriptures. A powerful worship song declaring that God is enough for us.

The video of the powerful performance was uploaded on Instagram and it now has gone viral!

“I instantly broke down when I heard them singing this song. We need more of this in our schools today! I applaud you @sincerelyzainab_ for working with these students and being bold enough to introduce Jesus to the school! You are making a huger impact than you know,” the uploader wrote.

Many are amazed by the group’s boldness and how such a song has been allowed in a public school. The Maverick City even commented on the post, celebrating their beautiful performance!

“Wow!! Incredible,” Maverick City Music wrote.

Maverick City Music Performs At “Tiny Desk Concert” To Share God’s Love

The Maverick City Music performed at the “Tiny Desk Concert” and shared God’s love with a secular audience.

In June, the secular platform NPR Music celebrated “Black Music Month.” To honor this celebration, they allowed showcasing Gospel music through the Maverick City group. Hence, the contemporary worship music collective performed at the “Tiny Desk Concert.”

Maverick City sang their anointed and powerful worship songs. They first sang “Man of Your Word,” led by worship leader Chandler Moore. “Million Little Miracles” followed, led by a worship leader, Brandon Lake. Both Chandler and Naomi Raine also led “Jireh” following it, and then “Kingdom.” Overall, the choir sang in harmony, creating beautiful music for the Lord on the Tiny Desk.

Sharing God’s Love

Performing on a secular platform is a rare and great opportunity for every Christian believer. So, it’s no wonder that worship leader, Naomi, took the chance to share a short message about God’s love. She explained a little bit about the meaning behind the songs.

“I feel like some people don’t know what that song means and that word “Jireh,” she explained. “It literally means the one who provides. God who provides, short for Jehovah Jireh. The Lord who will provide..”

Naomi further preached about God and said, “He reigns on the just and the unjust. He is benevolent and loving to everybody. And so many people think that God is angry and mad. But that’s not true. God is love and that’s what we believe in.. Society often forgets that God loves them.”

The group also promoted their new album “Kingdom” in collaboration with Kirk Franklin. And when the Gospel artist veteran came in front of the show’s camera and performed, he preached in the middle of the song.

A prison in South Florida turns into a church as Kirk Franklin and the Maverick City lead inmates into singing a hope-filled song.

In a video shared by the “God Behind Bars” ministry, a powerful moment of inmates singing unto the Lord went viral. And the men who led them into singing were Kirk Franklin and the Maverick City worship group.

Kirk is a well-known Christian singer-songwriter and a 16 Grammy award-winner. While Maverick City Music is an Atlanta-based worship music group known for its powerful and anointed worship songs. These two partnered together in South Florida to share Jesus with the inmates. They broke out in worship and led the inmates into singing Bill Wither’s ‘Lean On Me.’ Then, the prison turned into a church.

They sang together with excitement:

Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow

But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow

When you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on…

‘Lean On Me’ is one of the late singer Bill Wither’s hopeful songs released in 1972, according to Aleteia. The song’s context was of a safe Christian community wherein people receive unconditional love and support during the darkest hours. To have someone to rely on and share life with, not just oneself.

According to the Gospel artists, one of the God Behind Bars ministry’s goals is not just to expand the Kingdom of God, but also to spread music that has a life-changing message. Music that communicates God’s “unfiltered love for all people.”

Further, Maverick City CEO Tony Brown stressed that they visit jails not just to bring Jesus. But “to discover something about Him we haven’t seen.”

Maverick City Sings At 64th Annual Grammy Awards; Historical Moment After 20 Years

After 20 years, another Christian group is making history as they perform at the Grammy Awards. And the Maverick City Music is giving all the glory to Jesus.

Maverick City Music is known popularly for its powerful worship music like “Jireh,” “Man Of Your Word,” and “Wait On You,” which Justin Bieber once shared in one of his Instagram posts. These songs they shared with the world have deeply ministered to millions. And no wonder the Grammys took notice.

Today, the Christian group is giving all the glory to God as they perform during the 64th annual Grammy Awards. The group is also “nominated in all four categories across the two genres,” according to Faithwire’s report. The Grammy Awards nominated Maverick City Music for “Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song, Best Gospel Performance/Song, Best Gospel Album for Jubilee: Juneteenth Edition, and Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for Old Church Basement with Elevation Worship.”

What’s more, is that they are the first Gospel artist in 20 years to be televised at the prominent awards ceremony. According to Relevant Magazine, the last one was in 2002—”Brian McKnight, Al Green, Hezekiah Walker, and Cece Winans.”

In a report by CBN News, the group was recognized in 2018 after Christian artists came together to create music for God. When they recorded music, they never expected would land them in the limelight. But above all, they are grateful for how God used their songs to minister to millions.

“What we did not intend to happen, happened in a major way,” one of the artists, Chandler Moore, said in an interview with KGPE-TV. “We became this thing called Maverick City Music. What was just writing sessions turned into a thing that now the world is getting a chance to hear. And we’re on a ride that we didn’t prepare for. A ride that we didn’t really set out to be on. But we’re having so much fun and now two years later we’re doing a tour which is insane.”

Getting Real

Over a month ago, June 7th,  I spent the morning crying and sobbing in my car while out running errands. Why, because it had been the most Monday-est Monday ever, even though it had, but because Jesus reminded me that everything I am worried about is nothing compared to Him.

Let Me Explain.

The year twenty-twenty-one has not been great. It’s been filled with a lot of personal battles with a side of my aunt’s breast cancer diagnosis. Monday’s are never easy, not usually, and this particular Monday had to be one of the worst. Upset and overwhelmed with everything going on, I turned to, “let’s just try to keep busy.”

While out running errands, radio blasting to drown out the noise of anxious thoughts, Maverick City’s ‘Jireh’ began to play. And through that song, I could hear Jesus reminding me that He is enough. Cory Asbury’s ‘Sparrows’ played too, reminding me the He STILL provides. I have no reason to worry.

He quite frankly said, “Emily. It is okay. It is okay to be upset and overwhelmed by the weight of this world but I am here. I am still here. I never left you and I never will. We will get through this.” You see, the Lord is always there. He will take you through it, around it, and out of it. And He will be there the whole time.

I am a Child.

While driving and sobbing like a child, my cell phone pinged with a notification from YouTube. The LIVE version of Dante Bowe’s ‘Joyful’, a song I have only recently discovered, had been uploaded onto the video platform. Disney is the happiest place on earth and Joyful by Dante Bowe is the happiest song on the planet.

And don’t even get me started on my Bible Study that morning! I read in Zephaniah 3:9-20. Everything, from song to Scripture reminded me that no matter how much I worry, Jesus is enough. He is the provider. He rejoices with us. The Lord wants us to rejoice continually. He is among us and delights in us. The Lord our God is for us, unshaken by our sinful nature. Our God is living and He is active. He makes something beautiful out of nothing. He turns our graves into gardens and calls up the dry bones and makes them armies.

So yeah, maybe I am a grown adult crying in my car at 11 am. But I am also a grown adult crying in my car at 11 am who is dearly loved and who has God who is consistently present in my life and that is my hope. My living hope is Jesus.

Ruslan KD, a Christian rapper, featured compelling content about Shawn Mendes in his recent YouTube video. He discussed the encounter the singer-songwriter experienced because of a worship song he listened to.

In “The Man Enough Podcast,” Shawn shared his recent realizations about the power of music. It stirred a buzz in the internet world as the singer admitted how he’s becoming more spiritual nowadays despite being an atheist. What’s more, he revealed the impact Maverick City’s worship songs had on him lately.

Shawn shared about watching Maverick City choir “singing about God, singing about Jesus.” Then while watching their video, he said, “I just started crying. Like crying my eyes out.”

Further, the singer described that it’s the type of cry that’s “something leaving me.”

Contemplating His Experience

Then he added, “How is something that my whole life I’ve grown up to believe is fanatic and not science and not the truth feel like home because of this song?”

Shawn apparently grew up viewing Christianity through a lens of being “fanatic.” And now he’s starting to wonder why he became emotional when he heard that Christian song.

Although this was the case for the Canadian singer, it doesn’t mean that he’s already become a Christian. Ruslan points out in his video that “this is the beginning of him thinking about Jesus we Christians talk about.”

Ruslan also further added that because of such an experience, he’s no longer going to view Christianity as something fanatical. Because he has experienced something personal himself.

Let’s continue to hope and pray that Shawn would really know Jesus and would say himself that he has finally found the One his soul has been thirsting for all along.
