A couple experienced multiple miscarriages and felt like God was silent. But after receiving a prayer and reading a specific Bible verse, their hope was restored.
Multiple Miscarriages
Matthew and Presley had already lost a baby. When Presley was 20 weeks pregnant in December 2020, she thought it might happen again.
“I started feeling this cramping and I pulled on I said I’m not feeling the baby. I haven’t felt her in a couple of days,” Presley said.
The expecting parents took their baby girl, whom they named Isabelle, to a nearby emergency room, where the staff performed an ultrasound on her. They could not detect a beating heart. Soon after, the couple was taken to a delivery room, where Presley was induced, and Isabelle was born but did not survive.
The family held a memorial service for Isabelle, which helped the couple in many ways. But after a few days, they were filled with sadness.
Believing To Conceive After Multiple Miscarriages
In the days that followed, their family and friends offered prayers and words of support. One of them was Matthew’s mom, Karen, who is in the award-winning praise group Karen Peck and New River band. She was a close friend of the couple and shared what she believed God had told her.

“know that God will give them a harvest of joy eventually,” Karen said. “Well, I started researching it myself and I started reading it in Psalm 126. It says that if you sow seeds of sorrow and grief, eventually you will have a harvest of joy. And that harvest would be the sheaves.”
As the couple continued to pray, they were struggling with their loss. Matthew was back on the road with his mom’s band as a guitarist, and he felt like God had stopped communicating with him.
Hope Restored
After four months, both of them say God spoke to them again. Mother’s Day was approaching, and their church had a baby dedication.
A few weeks later, they found out that Presley was pregnant again. Presley and Matthew prayed for God’s peace and safety throughout the pregnancy.
This time, Presley had a healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby. She had Isla Grace on January 7, 2022.
“The first time I laid eyes on that girl I mean it brought tears to my eyes. I felt like something broke in me the day that Isabelle was born. But something healed when Isa was born,” Matthew said.
Karen and the New River band released their Grammy-nominated record 2:22 a month after Isla was born. One song holds special significance for the family. Based on what her friend learned from God and the Bible, Karen wrote the song “Sheaves” and dedicated it to Baby Isabelle.
