Restored Marriage After Abuse & Alcohol Addiction

Angela and Adrian’s story is a testimony of a restored marriage even after going through abuse and dealing with alcohol addiction.

Her Story

Angela lost her innocence at an unbelievably young age without her consent. Because of this, she grew up having insecurities, fears, and low self-esteem. She knew she wasn’t the same anymore. When she turned 17 years old, she married her now husband, Adrian. But it wasn’t the happy ending she expected. Within their marriage, she experienced abuse physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Her father warned Angela about her decision, but she didn’t listen. She still stayed. It all started when they lost their first child, Adrian began drinking a lot.

“I started drinking a lot. I started drinking heavily. Sometimes I would want to drink so much that I just kind of passed out and started smoking weed and things like that. The alcohol and smoking weed made it to where it was like… it just became something that was part of my life, drinking and thinking that that’s the way I was supposed to be,” Adrian recalled.

Restored Marriage

Angela’s fears, on the other hand, worsened.

“I got pregnant with my oldest child and I could say that that’s where things started. I remember being afraid. And I remember wanting to go back home, I just didn’t know how to. The abuse continued emotionally, and physically. It kind of got worse as we moved on,” she said.

Angela said that Adrian was a good man when he was sober, so she didn’t want to give up on him. But she knew he needed to overcome his addiction to alcohol. So, Angela started coming to church.

“As I started coming to church, I would come by myself and I would picture myself with my family sitting in the pews. Picturing my husband and our children in church. I would say, ‘I’m going to have this one day. I’m going to come and all of us are going to be in church,” she said.

Restored Marriage After Abuse & Alcohol Addiction

One day, they went to the funeral of her child’s friend. There, Angela witnessed how the bereaved family was so sure of seeing their child again in heaven. It touched her heart so much to the point that when they had an altar call and asked who would want to give their lives to Jesus, Angela raised her hands.

“As I was going up and they asked us to go up, I saw that my husband had raised his hand too,” she recalled.

Adrian then added, “It came to a point where I had to surrender everything to God for Him to do something in my life. Every time I tried to make a decision or make a change on my own, it wasn’t working.”

Now, Adrian is sober and Angela’s prayers were answered. Her whole family started going to the church.

Marriage Was Restored After God Intervened

A couple shared their testimony of how their marriage was restored when they started seeking God and allowing Him to move.

Where It All Started

Since their wedding in 2014, Liliana and Shane Stewart have been in a long-distance romance. Although divorced and had two kids, Shane worked as a commercial pilot in Alaska. Liliana lived unattached and alone in Dallas. But Liliana soon started to see an established pattern.

“I remember it was very early in our marriage and I realized that his drinking was a lot more than a normal social drinker,” she said.

It turned out that Shane started drinking in high school. Since drinking at work could cost him his pilot’s license, Liliana didn’t mind that he did it. It did get worse over the next two years, though. This happened when she was eight months pregnant with their daughter and Shane got so drunk that he passed out.

How A Marriage Was Restored

Even so, Shane kept looking for reasons for his behavior.

“I was making it to work, all the bills were paid. I thought it was okay if I just came home. And I’m in my own house and there’s nothing wrong with having a few drinks. Everything’s taken care of,” he said.

With each passing year, Liliana became angrier at her husband. Later, in 2017, after being married for three years, they learned they didn’t know each other.

“I felt very alone and isolated. He was physically present but he wasn’t really there for us,” Liliana said.

After that, Shane started to think that he might have a problem. Liliana chose not to get a divorce, even though she was upset and angry. Instead, she reinstated her church attendance, which she had not done in years.

Marriage Was Restored After God Intervened

Liliana prayed every day for her husband while she improved her relationship with God. Something has changed, but not much. Shane was constantly drinking.

“He called me one day and I was at work. He said, ‘I’m leaving you. You and the kids are better off without me’”, Liliana recalled what Shane said.

Shane gathered his things, loaded his truck, and drove to a faraway area of Anchorage. It’s said that God started showing him where his decisions and addiction could lead him while he was driving.

“I’d see the person that had pretty much lost everything. They were at a bus stop or in front of a storefront and they had obvious addiction issues. They were passed out, dirty tattered clothes,” he said.

A New Life

Shane added, “I felt very strongly that there wasn’t too much distance between me, driving in my car down the street, and that person. And I just really felt the strong presence of God that says, ‘You can’t do this you. You got to go back,’” Shane recalled.

Lyanna kept praying, and because of that huge realization, Shane now loves spending time with their family. Liliana is now a college pastor at their church, and they’re both thankful that God saved Shane from his addiction and blessed them with a loving, respectful marriage.

Prodigal Husband’s Testimony Of Coming Home

Armando Ramos shared his testimony about coming home to his wife and kids after being separated. He spoke about a prodigal husband’s testimony and what led him to leave.

Her Story

God TV shared Sheila’s story when Armando left their family.

She was six months pregnant with their second daughter when her husband told her he wanted to leave. The next day, she heard God say that He would restore their marriage. So, Sheila believed Him despite her circumstances. However, the divorce went through. Confused and feeling alone, Sheila turned to God’s word and randomly opened the Bible to Isaiah 54.

“And I just remember reading that the God of the whole world, the universe, my Maker, my Creator, was also called my husband,” she recalled. “When I read that, I just began to weep, and weep, and weep, and weep.”

His Story

In a separate video, Armando shared his side.

“Frankly, I was just selfish. But here’s the deal. Not a night went by that I didn’t cry. That I didn’t miss Shayla, that I didn’t think about my children. And that I didn’t question what am I doing,” he said.

He then shared that he struggled with pride and selfishness. At some point, he felt trapped and felt like he had dug himself into such a large hole that there was no way he could get out of it. He said, “There’s no way I could come home, there’s no way. What are the people around me going to think if I go back to that relationship that I’ve been trashing so bad?”

Armando thought that Sheila had moved on. Therefore, he wanted to make it seem like he, too, had moved on.

Prodigal Husband’s Testimony Of Coming Home

“No one knew that this was happening. To the world, I had the perfect life. I’m moving on, everyone thought I was happy. No one knew that I was dying inside. No one knew that when I was driving my vehicle at night, I wanted to crash my car against that railing in hopes that the person that would be next to my bedside would be my wife, my ex-wife at this point,” Armando recalled.

But God met him where he was.

God told him to go back and make everything right, and he obeyed.

After Her Husband Left, God Became Her Everything | Restored Marriage Testimony

Sheila Ramos shared her testimony about how God became her everything after her husband told her that he no longer wanted their marriage.

Her Story

Sheila was six months pregnant with their second daughter when her husband told her he wanted to leave. The next day, she clearly heard God say that He would restore their marriage. So, Sheila believed Him despite her circumstances. However, the divorce went through. Confused and feeling alone, Sheila turned to God’s word and randomly opened the Bible to Isaiah 54.

“And I just remember reading that the God of the whole world, the universe, my Maker, my Creator, was also called my husband,” she recalled. “When I read that, I just began to weep, and weep, and weep, and weep.”

Because of that new revelation, Sheila intentionally included God in her everyday life. Every time she would come home from work, she would set a place for Him at the table. She would put a plate down and tell her two daughters, “It’s God’s chair, it’s God’s plate.”

How God Became Her Everything

“I would wake up in the mornings and it was like this joy. He was so present to me. For the first time, He was for me… just felt tangible, real, and authentic. He was my husband, my maker, my provider.” Sheila said.

From that day on, Sheila experienced God as her Provider. She fell in love with Him as He began to show her His perspective on life and the plans He had for her. He also started speaking more clearly about His promises to her.

“That it stood. That I needed to hold on tight to Him, trust Him, and allow His word to bear fruit in my life,” Sheila said.

When she wanted to give up, she would recall God’s reminder for her: “Nothing and no one could ever replace the fact that He was all mine and that I was His.”

After Her Husband Left, God Became Her Everything

But being a single mom, Sheila admitted that it was hard. She was struggling and didn’t know where their next meal was going to come from. “But I had Him. And I felt like I had everything. If I had Him, I had everything,” she said.

When people would say that nothing in her life changed, Sheila knew better. She was confident that something indeed changed because she had changed. Now, looking back, Sheila expressed her gratitude because God fulfilled His promise. Her marriage is restored.

“This very moment, I am experiencing the fulfillment of that word. I have a restored marriage. And every day I wake up and I’m grateful. I’m grateful because we’ve added two more kids,” Sheila said.

Today, I have an encouraging testimony for you. It’s actually about my wife and myself and how we met. And oftentimes we can doubt that we hear the voice of God, but in John 10:4 it says, “When he puts forth all his own, he goes before them and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.” And a number of years ago before my wife and I met, I felt that the Lord was showing me that I was going to meet my wife in six months. And sure enough, I met her in six months, but I had no idea.

And that month went by and I was asking the Lord, “Lord, did I really meet the right person?” And the thought crossed my mind, “Well, maybe I met her, but I don’t know.” I was living in Western Canada at the time on Vancouver Island, and I took a train trip all the way across Canada to Mississauga, Ontario by Toronto. I met her again and I did like a triple take. “Oh, I remember you.” She was actually checking people in at a conference. And we started connecting during the conference having a great time, just spending time together. And then it clicked that not only had I met her before, but I’d met her in the six months that the Lord told me.

So I went back after that conference to Western Canada. And I was actually going out to do some evangelism on a Friday night. And my friend Kevin came up to me and he said, “Andrew, I wasn’t going to tell you this, but my girlfriend told me, I had to tell you.” And he said, “I had a dream that you met a girl in Toronto, Ontario, and that you got engaged her.” Well, it turned out at the same time the person who’s now my wife, Brittany, she had a friend also named Kevin in the United States, a different Kevin. And he had a dream and he emailed her and said, “I had a dream that you met a guy in Toronto, Canada, and you got married to him.”

And so I didn’t even have her phone number. I’d given it to her, but it got lost on the way back to North Carolina, where she lived. I managed to figure out what church she was part of and everything, and I managed to get ahold of her family, her dad and we connected. After we were dating for awhile, I felt like I just wanted to give her some flowers. And so I went on a website, I think it was flowers.com or something like that. And I looked at these arrangements of flowers and one of the arrangements, it looked good to me. I ended up sending it to her. And that very day she was actually praying in her room. She was crying. We’d already been dating for a while, and she was like, “God, I don’t know if I’m supposed to keep dating this guy. He’s in another country.” I was living in Canada, she was living in the United States, and this arrangement came to her door. And ever since she was a little girl, she’d asked the Lord that the right person would send her a bouquet of flowers, half a dozen pink, half a dozen red, long stem and a vase with a pink bow on them. And I sent these things to her, these flowers, and there were actually 13 flowers, not 12. A half a dozen were pink, and then there were seven that were red. And she looked at them, she was so excited. And then she counted them and a little bit disappointed thinking, “Oh no, it’s the wrong arrangement.” Well, in the card I wrote down that she was to give one of these flowers to her mom. And so it turned out to be six and six long stem in a vase with a pink bow. And it was an answer to her prayer.

You know, when I was getting those flowers for her, I did not even ask the Lord or think like, okay, I need to be really strategic with this. But when we’re seeking the Lord, we’re seeking His face, we’re asking for His help, and we’re trying to hear His voice, do you know that He will even honor you in your ignorance? He’ll even honor you in your mistakes, because you’re one of His sheep. You hear His voice and He honors your faith. So be encouraged today.

God, I pray that you would give clarity and peace to those who are trying to seek you. Those who are trying to follow you. Those who are trying to hear your voice. And I thank you that you have grace, even when we don’t hear you perfectly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Marriage Miracle

Do you know what I love more than anything? Sharing testimonies, because testimonies say, “Do it again.” Literally, that’s what they mean. So I want to share a testimony about a time where I saw a miracle breakthrough in a marriage that was absolutely hopeless.

So I had been asked to preach at my small local church, and I was extremely nervous, because even though I lead worship all the time, preaching feels a lot different.  And so, I got up there with this word from the Lord that felt very heavy to deliver to this body, but I felt the Lord just prompt me that we were going to go after inner healing, which is something you usually do one-on-one with people. But today I felt the Lord say that He wanted to do some healing in people’s minds and their hearts and their relationships.

So I got done with my preach. Everybody was, you know, very excited, like feeling the Holy Spirit, all the things. And this lady came up to me and said, “Would you pray with me over my marriage?” And I said, “Yes, absolutely.” And I was like, “Where’s your husband?” And she was like,”No, no, you don’t understand. He’s not here. He has not stepped foot in a church in over 20 years.” And I was like, “Wow, like what’s going on?” And she proceeded to tell me about all of the challenges that her and her husband had been facing, and that they were literally days away from signing divorce papers. And they had been separated. There was no hope for the marriage. And so I prayed with this woman and honestly I prayed with her and then I didn’t think much of it because, honestly, I didn’t really believe that the Lord was going to break through in this situation. How terrible is that, right? But come to find out the next week that woman showed up and right behind her was her husband. He had called her that week after months of them not speaking, they went on a date, they went to counseling, and they began fixing their marriage. They are still married and happy. And not only that, they’re running a food outreach ministry in their county together that they do every single week and they’re happily married. And I still talk to them to this day.

So if you need breakthrough in relationships, today’s your day. We’re going to break through in this. Jesus, I thank you that relationships are your design. Marriage is your design. It was your idea. And that all we have to do is partner with you and you will bring breakthrough. God, I thank you. Where doors have been closed, where feelings have been hurt, where deep trauma has been sustained, that you can fix in one moment, what would take us normally years to fix on our own. You can fix that in a moment of your presence. So we welcome you, Holy Spirit, into this situation.

And I want you to just picture the Holy Spirit, filling up like a cup with water inside of it. He’s filling up this relationship that’s been broken, that you’ve been asking the Lord to repair. Whether it be with your children, whether it be with your spouse, whether it be with distant relatives, whether it be with a friend or a family member that you haven’t talked to in a really long time. The Lord is refreshing and refilling today, and He’s healing and mending broken places. Thank you, Jesus. We receive your ministry, Holy Spirit. And we promise to be obedient to the prompting that you have in our life, so that we can repair the relationships that you want us to have. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
