American Idol 2023 winner Iam Tongi believes in Christ and posted worship songs “Amazing Grace” and “Peace in Christ” on YouTube.
Iam Tongi Believes In Christ
In the recently concluded American Idol Season 21, William Tongi, well-known as Iam Tongi, captivated the hearts of many and brought home the victory. It was a close competition between singers Megan Danielle and Colin Stough, who earned the 2nd and 3rd spots. And now, as we get to know the show’s new champion, some of his previous videos reveal that he believes in Christ.

Iam shared a video from two years ago that he sang with a friend, Eta Lauti. They covered the popular worship song “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone).” It was a song dedicated to Eta’s Aunty, who passed away. Iam sang and played the guitar on the cover. Further, he included photos in the video to highlight some of the lyrics.
‘Amazing Grace’
The American Idol winner sang the fourth verse:
“The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.”
Then Iam sang the chorus in perfect harmony with Eta:
“My chains are gone, I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love
Amazing grace.”
Peace in Christ
In another video on April 5, 2022, Iam also did a cover of “Peace in Christ.” He dedicated the song to her Aunty Neta, who passed away.
“We are gonna to miss you with your strong faith,” he wrote in the caption.
The song’s lyrics proclaimed the beauty of what Jesus did on the Cross to save us from our sins. And how despite all the “storms of life,” there is always peace and hope in Christ.
