A chainsaw is often seen as a tool to destroy, which may give it a negative association with people. But this “Chainsaw” from Florida is thanked by three men because of what it did during Hurricane Ian.
Chainsaw, the boat owner
Doug McGill, known as “Chainsaw,” lived on his 38-foot sailboat in Fort Myers Beach. He told CNN that long before he lost the place he lives in, he was able to use it for a more significant cause. “I lost my boat and lost everything I have,” he said. “But saved three guys; it’s worth it.”
When flood water started to rise, Chainsaw was sailing on his boat. Then, he saw three men trapped in their two-story residence.

“It was just about underwater, and they were trapped inside,” he said. “I got them out of the other side, and they were done — got them on the boat.”
He added, “I thought they wouldn’t and couldn’t get out to help them even, but I said if you go on that dingy, they did.”
Chainsaw was the light that brought hope to the men. They were “lying limp” as they got on the boat.
He tried to drop the anchor to stop them from getting into the sea. But he got dragged into the road, where it eventually stayed until the waters receded.
The rescued men could not stop thanking their hero for his kind deed.
Prayers for Florida
Others may despair about Chainsaw’s situation, but he admits he is not new to starting over. “Homeless vet — it’s been years. If you’re alive, you survived. I’ve started over so many times that this is just another one,” he shared.
Chainsaw is only one of the survivors of the devastation. Hurricane Ian claimed almost eighty lives and destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes. But God is still on the throne. He mends and restores. Let us continue to pray for God’s mighty moving for Florida.
