Senior Pastor of Woodlands Church, Kerry Shook shared a message about how God uses ordinary people to further the Gospel.
In his message, he encouraged everyone to look past ourselves and see that “it’s always about God.”
How God Uses Ordinary People
Time and again in the Bible, we’ve seen how God used ordinary people to save, free, and redeem His chosen ones from their oppressors.
People like Abraham, Joseph, Esther, Joshua, David, Peter, Paul, and many more– they were the ones that God used so people would be saved from eternal condemnation.
“The good news is God only uses ordinary people,” pastor Kerry said. And you? You’re an ordinary person. But God made you for this moment. Look at Joshua 1:9 (NIV), God says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.””
“Be Strong and Courageous’
Of course, being strong and courageous is no easy task especially when challenges and problems come our way. It’s easy to get intimidated, if not paralyzed by circumstances.
But the same way God told Joshua three times in the passage, “be strong and courageous.”

It was like God was saying, “Joshua, I know that you feel weak and afraid. I know that you feel insecure. I know that you feel inadequate, I know, Joshua, you’re ordinary. You don’t have to fool me. I made you, I see you. I know that you’re flawed. And I know that you’re imperfect. I know that you have fears.”
It’s Always About God
He continued to say that it was like God was saying, “You have doubts and insecurities. I know. But it’s not about you, it’s about Me. And I’m going to do this miracle through you. It’s not about who you are, it’s about who I am. And I choose you for this moment. I made you for this moment. But I’m the Master of the moment. Don’t forget that.”
He concluded, “You have to surrender to Him, so He can do miracles in your life.”
