Church, To Build Tiny House Village For Homeless: ‘God Cares About Everyone’

A church in South Carolina is going the extra mile to build a tiny house village for the local homeless women to give them shelter and community.

First Baptist Spartanburg started a building initiation to help the homeless. Next year, 20 tiny houses plus a commons building will be constructed. It will happen after the church meets with local government boards in 2021.

The small village will be built on the church’s property found in the Northside of Spartanburg. A place adjacent to a ministry they have for the less fortunate known as “The Bridge”.

According to Steve Wise, the missions minister at First Baptist, they wanted to expand their ministry. Hence, reaching out to the homeless and giving them homes.

“We’ve been very much aware of the problems our homeless face and the problems in the city of meeting homeless needs for a while,” he said.

“Together with what we already knew about homelessness, conversations that were going on in our city with a homeless task force and others, that’s how we came to make that decision.”

Tiny House Village

Firstly, each housing unit is projected to cost $30,000 plus around $200,000 for the commons building. The commons is where the community will often gather together.

“The tiny houses are not designed for cooking and eating,” Steven explained. “They will [be] very simple, but we want mealtimes to be a community time.

“There will be some meetings with everybody that we’ll be having weekly. And there’ll be some special trainings and they’ll be one-on-one mentoring and coaching that happens and that building will provide some of the space for that.”

Lastly, Steven also revealed that the building project would have volunteer labor that will help offset the village’s financial costs. Some committed to donating as well.

“First and foremost, God cares about everyone. He certainly cares about our homeless friends,” he said, stressing why they are doing these for the homeless. “We really think God can do something amazing here and can bring about solutions.”

Boxing Champion Gives Poor Vendor $600, a New House and Job

Manny Pacquiao, also known as MP, is a world-renowned, professional boxing champion. He is the first boxer in the history of boxing to win four major world titles—flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight. Manny was the “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s. He received many awards from boxing, and the Forbes magazine even declared him as the second highest paid athlete in the world as of 2015.

However, behind all the success he gained from boxing, he said he was living life with an emptiness in his heart—until he encountered God. Pacquiao said he once had a dream where he heard the voice of God and it totally changed his life.

Today, God has turned Manny into a great man after His own heart. His relationship with God transformed him into someone no one in the world expected. With all the blessings God has given him, He has been stewarding it right for God’s glory. One ice cream vendor from the Philippines can testify to that.

According to the post by Jen Manilay, who was with Manny that day, this ice cream vendor was passing by a street where they were. Manny was inside the car waiting, then Jen bought 10 pieces of ice cream from a hardworking vendor named Marciano. She gave one to MP then he called out for the vendor to come to him.

Marciano was so shocked to see that it was Manny Pacquiao. He asked Marciano a few things about his life and after hearing the sad plight of the poor vendor, he gave him money, a house on a lot, and a new job.

“He would also no longer have difficulty selling ice cream on a very sunny afternoon because we also already gave him a job in Goldenstate [a local college in General Santos, South Cotabato, Pacquiao’s hometown].”

“See you again next week Manong Marciano… with your new house and lot,” Manilay wrote.

The poor vendor, still couldn’t believe what happened, and was brought to tears of joy.

Wouldn’t Jesus do the same if it were Him? Indeed, Manny is a God-fearing person who is a great example to us all, allowing God to use him for His purpose. We praise God for his life!

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)

God Wants to Make Your Heart His Home: Will You Give Him the Key?

A Welcome Home

Suppose the Lord made a surprise visit to your house…

Would you feel embarrassed by the condition of your home? Or would you be happy to have Him there despite the imperfections and messy areas?

Many years ago, my mom and a friend of hers dropped by for a visit (one I was expecting). Immediately upon letting them in, I began making apologies and excuses for this or that I thought were wrong with my home. My mom’s friend responded boldly with: “Girl, if it was perfect I’d feel like I was in a showroom, not a home.”

I’ve never forgotten that. She made me feel at ease, taking my eyes off of what wasn’t important, and helped me relax and enjoy our visit.

Did you know this is how the Lord wants you to feel?

In Psalm 139, the writer realizes there’s no place we can go, high or low, to get away from the Presence of God. And then the realization hits that God not only knows our comings and goings, but He knows us inside and out.

And listen to the revelation God gave him:

“I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well” (Psalm 139:14).

In other words, why would you need to feel ashamed about what you are not?

God shaped you and me first inside, then out. And when we invited Him, He CHOSE to make our heart His home. I realize now that when I feel inferior or ashamed, it’s usually due to my “decorating.” What I mean is, maybe there are some things in my “home” (heart) that are inappropriate for the Lord and need to be taken down–such as ugly thoughts, fear, or strife.

But if things are a little messy or cluttered because of the demands of LIFE, instead of feeling inferior at the thought of God being a visitor in your home (searching and knowing all about you), you need to remember He’s not a visitor! He’s a resident. He lives there too.

When my husband comes home from work, I don’t make the same comment to him as I did to my mom’s friend. Why? Because this is his home too and he feels quite comfortable in it. And he helps me keep our home full of peace and love and everything else needed to feel relaxed and at ease.

My point today is this: God knows when you’re sitting down and when you’re rising up (Psalm 139:2). There’s nothing hidden from His sight. You are just deceiving yourself if you think He expects a showroom of perfection–He doesn’t. But He also doesn’t want us living in a pigsty so He gave us His Word and His Spirit to help us identify areas that need attention.

I remember one time my son came home from spending the night with a friend and said, “Mom, they had so much stuff piled up, it was almost taller than me and there were little paths to get around it all. I could never live like that!” On the one hand, I’m glad my son recognized the importance of a clutter-free house (and life) but what he was too young to know at the time is that houses and lives don’t get that way overnight. It’s the ignored items that grow and expand over time. And this is why we should never ignore the nudging of the Holy Spirit.

God chose to make your heart His home for a reason.

He loves you. He doesn’t expect perfection but He doesn’t want you living in chaos either! Let Him help you.
