The low-budget Christian film “His Only Son” hits $11 million in the box office at Easter.
His Only Son
GOD TV previously reported that the Christian movie “His Only Son” landed a top spot in its first week, just behind “John Wick: Chapter 4.” And now it surpassed the “$11 million mark in total gross,” according to the report.
Despite being crafted on a low budget, the film is doing well. According to Christian Headlines, the crowdfunded film spent only $250,000 for its production. Furthermore, reports detailed that it “grossed an estimated $3.2 million over the Easter weekend for a No. 6 finish. And made $11,044,046 in roughly a week and a half.”Passion In Filmmaking
David Helling is the writer and director of “His Only Son.” He used to serve as a Marine in Iraq. His encounter with God, led him to make films. It then became his passion to share the Word of God through filmmaking.
In an interview with Christian Headlines, he said, “I wanted to do everything I could to bring others to the Word.”
Angel Guild
The chief content and marketing officer of Angel Studios, Jeffrey Harmon, also revealed how “His Only Son” made it on the big screen. A group called “Angel Guild” supported the film. They are “a group of nearly 100,000 investors and supporters who determine which projects go forward.”
“The Angel Guild sifts through all of the content,” he told Christian Headlines. “If
the content doesn’t reach a certain rank it doesn’t get made.”
Moreover, they never told the guild that the “His Only Son” filmmaker was a first-timer.
“They just watch the content and they give their raw opinion on it on the spot,” he added.
Jeffrey remarked that he doesn’t care if the film’s a “low budget it’s good storytelling.”
“This movie actually needs to be on the big screen,” he said. “You need to surrender your distractions and your devices and immerse yourself into this experience.”
As a result, the faith-based film became a success with “a CinemaScore grade of “A” from moviegoers.”
