I want to encourage you today about your heavenly citizenship. What’s that? What’s citizenship? Let’s talk about that a little bit, because I am a person who has a little bit of a difficult time identifying where am I a citizen of. You know why? Because I was born to a Japanese father, Lebanese-Italian mother in Brazil. I’m also American, and I work for Israel. I mean, what citizenship do I have? How do I act? What are my rights and duties? Because when you were a citizen of a country or of a land, you identify yourself as belonging to that space or to that people group.
The Word says that we are citizens of heaven. And I want to read you that scripture in Philippians 3:20, which says, “But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. We are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.” Verse 21 goes on to say, “He will take our weak mortal bodies” (Hallelujah! I certainly have one) “and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.”
You know, the thing about it is, right now we’re in the USA, but I am a Brazilian citizen, so I have duties and responsibilities to Brazil, even though I’m not there. We are citizens of heaven NOW. We will not be, we are today. But we will be with our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the King of that Kingdom. So I want to encourage you to grab a hold of that truth. If you know Jesus, if God is your Father, if you have been born again, you are a citizen of heaven, you don’t belong to this world. You are here in the world, you belong to heaven, therefor you act and you do things with that understanding and with that conviction. So no confusion. You are not part of this world. We live in the world, but we belong to heaven. God bless you today as you recall and remember about your heavenly citizenship as you do things.
