Every married person and those who plan to enter into marriage need to hear this message from Havilah Cunnington.
Havilah Cunnington
In an Instagram post, Havilah Cunnington shared a valuable lesson about marriage. Her message came from her own experience of being married to her husband, Ben, for over 17 years. Any married couple can relate to her experience and her realization that marriage is never an easy ride.
“Marriage is hard… I don’t mean hard like it doesn’t have wonderful benefits and I would much rather be married than single… But marriage is hard and there’s this moment in a marriage and if you’ve been married for any length, you’ll get this. There’s a moment in every marriage where you realize that the person you married is not the person you’re married to. It’s really wild.”
“Marriage is hard”
It’s that sudden realization that the person you’re married to was not the same person whom you married on your wedding day. While change is constant, our understanding and love for our partner should also be constant.
“I think this is when marriages break up. Is there this moment in the relationship where you go, ‘You’re not who I thought I married but I’ll choose you again. And I’d rather you show up. I love you enough for you not to be the person that was in my head but to be the person that’s in my bed. And you’re allowed to have flaws and you’re allowed to not be a participant in my perfect picture. You’re actually allowed to be present in human and I love you still.'”
God’s help
Broken marriages happen when the challenge of constant adjustment and understanding becomes too overwhelming to handle. But what we should always remember is that marriage is a process of growth of two individuals called to be one.
“So to all the couples out there who may be feeling frustrated or uncertain, know that you’re not alone. Marriage is a journey, and it’s not always easy, but with God’s help, it’s worth it.”
For a married couple to last forever, God should first be the center of that marriage. It’s His love, mercy, and grace that could make a marriage work.
