In one of the episodes of I Am Second, Moriah and Joel Smallbone shared the secret to their happy marriage. That is God being the center of their relationship.
Moriah And Joel’s Meeting For The First Time
Moriah shared with I Am Second how her relationship with Joel started. While she was sharing some details inside the studio, Joel arrived to her surprise. The husband then joined Moriah in the interview.

It was the summer after Moriah graduated from high school when she met Joel during a wedding. A woman who was like her second mom invited her to a wedding. She wanted to introduce Joel to her, so she brought Moriah to her brother’s wedding.
When Moriah met Joel for the first time, she described him as “He’s got like the bone structure of Ken.” Meanwhile, Joel was stunned when he saw Moriah for the first time. It was love at first sight. She sparked an interest in him and he thought of ways to get to know the girl. At the time, Moriah was 17 years old.
The Secret To Their Relationship And Happy Marriage
The following day, Joel approached Moriah at church and invited her to write a song with him. During their courtship, Moriah admitted that she was so guarded because of fear. It was later when she discovered that she had a wrong mindset about dating.
“Jesus loved extravagantly, He never held back,” the singer stated. “Because the thing that always threw me off with dating was the idea that I could give so much of my heart to this person. And then, it not work out.”
Fear drove Moriah’s heart that even when she got married to Joel, certain issues in her heart surfaced which stirred conflicts in their marriage. Thankfully, God taught her many things and now she knew the secret of a happy marriage.
“God being the center of the relationship, I think it boils down to that,” Moriah remarked. “You put two imperfect people together and you’re asking them to protect one another’s hearts. And to love one another unconditionally. So, to us, it seems like the only way to do that is by accessing and tapping into a love that’s bigger than us.”
