Who doesn’t want to be happy every single day?! All the world is seeking happiness. Here are seven simple ways to ensure you’re happier on a daily basis. Everyone can be as happy as they make up their minds to be. Why not be thrilled and as happy as possible?
1. Take Care Of Yourself
It might seem simple but how often do we neglect our health in some fashion? Make sure to get enough of the following:
• Air – Get outside and breath in some fresh air.
• Water – Drink a gallon of water a day, to remain properly hydrated.
• Sleep – Sleep is more important than food. Hard to believe, but it’s true.
• Nutritious Food – Take your vitamins and eat healthy fruits, vegetables, and protein.
Taking care of your physiology will help ensure that your body will be happy because it’s receiving the four fundamental essentials of life.
2. Forgive
Bitterness, resentment, anger, hatred stem from unforgiveness. Forgiving those who have wronged us not only serves the other person or persons, but it serves us. It’s like we’re carrying around a burden that we can’t see or sometimes even know there when we haven’t forgiven others. Forgiving is something Jesus demonstrated time and time again. He never sinned and was surrounded by sinners. Think about all of the injustice He faced and continued to forgive continuously.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15)
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)
3. Be Thankful
Have an attitude of gratitude. Count the blessings and all the right things taking place in life. Did you eat today? Give thanks! Do you have a warm place to live? Give thanks! Do you have a friend? Give thanks! Being grateful is possible no matter what’s going on in life.
No matter what is going on in your life today at this moment, God is up to something good. How do I know?
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
4. Don’t Criticize, Condemn or Complain – No Negativity
Stop speaking negativity about people and circumstances. Watch how quickly emotions and feelings will shift. Anytime a negative thought comes to mind, at all cost, don’t say anything. Some have created the habit of speaking negatively. Work on starving out negativity and make incremental steps to speak less and less negatively. Don’t eat the fruit of death as the Proverb below puts it.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
5. Affirm Yourself And Others
Expounding upon the words we speak, begin talking with positive, life-giving words. Speak positively about yourself, family, friends, and circumstances. God only creates greatness. You are created in the image of the Living God. You are great! God wants you, and He is glad He created you. Talk well about what He’s made. You can be the best version of yourself. Your words shape your reality.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
6. Give To Someone Else
Some might be wondering, “How does giving make me happier?” Think about how much joy comes from receiving a good gift. What’s something you’ve received recently? What’s the best birthday or Christmas gift you’ve ever received? Think about how good that felt and how happy that made you. The Bible communicates that it’s even better to give than receive. Maybe a family member or friend wants something, consider getting that item for them. Is there a homeless person that needs to eat? Buy them a meal. Give them a bottle of water. If money is tight, provide them with a smile, hug and pray for them.
“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” (Acts 20:35 NIV)
7. Worship
One thing I do to feel better is worship and sing. Try singing? Maybe at the moment, you don’t consider yourself a good singer. That’s okay because the Lord loves to hear you sing. A song that I find difficult to stay in a sad mood is, “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy down in my heart.”
Another form of worship is dancing. King David danced before the Lord. Think about how for those of us who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, we have so much to be joyful and happy about. Eternal life with King Jesus forever! Praise the Lord! Celebrate!
“As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart. … David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel–I will celebrate before the LORD. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” (2 Samuel 6:16, 21-22)
Choose to be happy
There are countless ways to find happiness. Ultimately, it’s up to each individual on how happy they can be at any given moment. Christians ought to be the happiest people on the earth because they understand how much mercy, grace, and love God has bestowed upon us. It’s time to get happy! Jesus is Lord! Hallelujah!
