Turkish media shared images of Christian cards online and on TV after religious police arrested missionaries for passing them out.
The cards, which read “Jesus loves you”, were meant to encourage and comfort earthquake victims after a week of tragedy and loss. They were distributed throughout the day as missionaries with Awakening Europe connected with locals and met many of their practical needs suppling tents, food, aid, and even playing with children from a nearby school.
Mothers and fathers from different religions cried with joy as the Christians spoke the truth of God’s word to their children. “God loves you” they told them. The religious police were unhappy with the cards. Yet, throughout the day, locals were thanking the missionaries and apologized for the behavior of the religious police. Many asserted that no matter what they were going to keep the cards!
The ministry team marveled at God’s ability to take what was meant for evil and turn it for good.
“That card ended up being seen on the national news and all over Instagram” Ben Fitzgerald said, noting how Turkish media shared pictures of the cards everywhere. Unintentionally, this spread the message of Christ far and wide to Turkish viewers: Jesus loves you.
In a video detailing their experience, one missionary, named Peter, recounts what God told him to do while being arrested. Jesus provided supernatural wisdom for each decision that he needed to make during the experience.
God spoke to Christian missionary: ‘Love them’.
“Even the Turkish police, we don’t want to say that they’re bad people. We love them. After everything that has happened, our love has grown so much for the Turkish people.”
