Joyce Meyer: ‘A Christian’s Number One Goal Is To Choose God’s Will’

In a fast-paced world where many individuals are driven by goals, Joyce Meyer emphasized in her message that the number one goal of Christians should be “to choose God’s will.”

God’s Will

Every person has a goal—whether they pertain to family, finances, career, ministry, or otherwise. While these goals are commendable, they can become a hindrance if they replace God as the first place in one’s life. As followers of Jesus, Joyce Meyer remarked that Christians, despite having free will, should prioritize God’s will in pursuing their goals.

Choose God's Will

At times, an individual’s desires may not align with God’s will. That’s why there will be times when life doesn’t work the way they wanted it to. Nevertheless, God can be trusted that it’s ultimately for the good and glory of His Name.

Number One Goal of Christians

Joyce Meyer emphasized opening spiritual senses to discern God’s guidance. In this way, one would know how to align with God, especially if certain things need to change.

“You need to pray that God will open your spiritual ears and your spiritual eyes,” the Christian author said. “And I can tell you right now, me or anybody else, if you’re going to walk with God, there will be things in your life that will have to change.”

Joyce noted that when things in one’s life don’t align with that of God, “there will be sacrifices.”

Therefore, Joyce concluded, “Once we enter into a relationship with God, our number one goal should be to use our free will, which He has given us to choose His will.”

Today’s Message

Do you struggle with what you know God has called you to do with your life? Maybe you relate to Moses, who couldn’t comprehend why God wanted to use him. Like Moses, God wants to inhabit the lives of imperfect believers like you and I. He does not need you to be the best writer, speaker, or performer. He does not need you to be the best at your job. God’s purposes for the earth reach far beyond our own lives. He desires that you take the hand He’s extended out to you, saying “yes” to the journey ahead. Consider today’s verses above. The people of Israel were groaning in their bondage. And God, in His goodness, did not forget the covenant He made with Abraham. Moses was the answer to a portion of the promise. God needed Him! He chose Him to complete the task of freeing the people of Egypt. You too, are needed in this generation. I want to encourage you: go where He is calling! You will not be alone, He will be with you. There is purpose in your destination.

Accessing Revelation

In John 15:15, it says, “I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing. But I’ve called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father.” I love that we have beautiful relationship with Jesus, and we have that connection with Him to be able to hear from Him all the time about all matters concerning us.

For me, my own life, I love to soundboard everything with the Lord. Just constantly in communication, “Lord, what is this? What do you feel about this?” And just going back and forth, obviously being guided by the word. But when I’m in situations with people, when I’m out and about, if I’m doing something for Him, I’m at work, whatever it is that I’m doing, I’m always asking the Lord about different things and feeling how things move His heart. I love to learn how, you know, things that I say to people or the way I say something to someone I want to live at a place of closeness with Him and intimacy with Him where I feel even the slightest sense of, “Oh, that didn’t please God,” or “Oh, that made Him really happy.” Or even sometimes He’ll ask me to do something and I do it, and I feel teary, because I can feel the delight of the Father. And I think it’s really beautiful that we can have that experience with God.

And that’s a way that we can experience revelation from the Lord about different things that go on in life. We can have His insight and His understanding to the way that we can understand, because His thoughts are higher, His ways are higher than ours. But, there’s a way of understanding the Lord’s revelation in what we go through, and it helps us to have wisdom. It talks about in the word that we should seek wisdom and how important that is, that it’s greater than rubies and jewels. Wisdom is one of the things that the Lord wants us to walk in and live with. And even in the scripture here, if I pull this up, it talks about that “The fear of the LORD,” in Provers 9:10 “is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

And as we live in this place where the fear of God is central in our life, that’s going to change what we watch, that’s going to change what we listen to. It’s going to change the conversations we have. We allow that to fully take over our lives, and that we allow that to change who we are, that we live for Him and His glory and Him alone. And the more that every part of our life is aligned with that truth of the fear of God and obedience to God and communion with Him, that there’s no double life. There’s no like, you know, I’m like this, but I’m also doing these things. The more you can just make that just fully surrendered and sold out to Jesus and aligned with that truth, the more everything that comes from you and flows out of you is going to be of Him, because you’re eating of Him. Bill Johnson talks about that a lot. You become like what you’d behold.

And so, as you go throughout your life and your days, you know, find yourself in these places where you can just behold Jesus. Find pockets of your day where you can just sit and where you behold Him. You say, “God, I love you in this moment. I want to hear from you this day.” You know, even before you walk out of your house, “God, would you meet me today? Would you share your secrets with me, God? Would you, as a Father, lead me and help me to be a close one. Help me to have a heart that hears my Father’s voice.” Because the Bible says, “My sheep hear my voice and they know my voice and they won’t follow the voice of another.”

And so become obsessed with the Father’s voice over your life. Become obsessed with, “What is my Dad saying about this situation?” And love His voice, and love Him. And, as you come from this place of overflowing with connection and love with Him, everything that He says is going to be the most important thing to you.

And so I just pray that God would give you wisdom and the fear of the Lord, and that that would guide your life and your heart to a place where you’re always wanting to know, what’s my Father doing and how can I walk in that? What is He saying about this, and how can I align with His values and His will? Always asking God, “What is your will?” in situations, will leave you just being centered and aligned with where He wants you to be in that moment. Life can look so different in all the different areas that we’re a part of. But just keep Him the main focus.

And I think a big part of that, too, receiving His revelation throughout your day, and hearing your Father’s voice, is just making Him the delight of your heart, making Him the delight of your day. That He is everything to you. And forsaking all else, and just making Jesus the main thing. Making it that we’re running our race and it’s about God. And, asking Him if there’s any areas of our heart that could surrender more.

So help me to surrender those to you, God. That I would be fully surrendered and fully available to whatever you want to say to me, whatever you want to do through me, that I would be consumed by Jesus. So I bless you with that today. May you fall into the depths of God’s love like you never have before. And I just pray that you would find a closeness with Jesus, with the Father, and with the Holy Spirit that you’ve never had, and that it would change your whole world and all the people around you.

Knowing God’s Will And Doing It

We pray many times that God’s will be done. However this prayer maybe a cop out of knowing what God’s will is! Knowing His will means we must know His mind on a certain matter. Is it God’s will to heal? We must pray accordingly and see His will being manifested in healing. This will lead to a different kind of prayer to the one where we hope we get the right answer. One is a prayer by random and the other a prayer by target. Random prayers result in random answers. Targeted prayers result in targeted answers.

Answers

God has provided answers through His word. We can know His will through His written word and His Spirit. His Spirit opens up His word and reveals His mind to us. Just reading the word may not give us understanding of His word and will. To know His will is to know the mind of God. Jesus always consulted with His Father and only did what He saw and heard His Father doing. We can hear and see too if we seek His ways and not our way. Many times we are comfortable in doing things our way and only consult God when we are in trouble. God wants to partner with us and not just be a teller machine.

God’s Will Through Attitude

We must begin to demand that our prayers be answered. We can only do this when we know God’s will. God’s will is that we preach the Good news, heal the sick and bring deliverance to the captive. There are no ifs about this. When we know His will we can pray aggressive prayers that will bring answers from His glory in heaven. God has only answers and not questions. All His questions were answered on the Cross when He cancelled the power of sin and the devil. We now have access to all the riches in glory through Jesus. This is what Jesus came to do through His death and resurrection. Now it is up to us to implement His will on earth and pull the answers down.

Transform Your Mind

Romans 12:1-2 are such life-giving verses; let me read them to you. It says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God– this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good pleasing and perfect will.”

So let’s break that down, because there are beautiful steps to follow in there. So, first of all, He says, “in light of your mercy;” this is such a beautiful heart posture to come from with God, to realize that we’re asking these requests of God, and He’s going to see us transformed by the renewing of our mind, because He’s merciful to us. That shows us that He wants to help us be transformed. He wants to help us go from glory to glory, and it gives us great encouragement that we’re doing this from a place of His love.

Then second of all, we get to look at this and say, because God has been so merciful to me, I’m going to offer myself as a living sacrifice. And literally what that means is going, “You know what? God, today, I’m not going to lean only on what I can think. I’m not going to be conformed to the world. I’m going to trust in you, and I’m going to offer my life to you today.”

And then the third step is it says, “don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That means that the things that others think, like money is the thing that will help us get to the end of the month or, disciplining a child this way is the way you should do it. Those kinds of things that society says are norms, we get to go, “You know what? Lord what do you think about money? Lord, what do you think about how to raise our families? What do you think about relationships?” And because it comes from this place of knowing God’s mercy, He gets to show us beautiful truths from heaven.

And then the last piece of that verse says, “and then you will know what God’s good and perfect will is.” We often start with that first, right? “God, what do you want me to do? What is your will in this situation?” And He’s going, “Hold on, hold on, start from I’m being merciful to you, then offer yourself as a living sacrifice and go,” “God, I want to know what you’re thinking. ” Then the promise is that, “As you don’t listen to the world around you and just go that normal way, but ask Me what I’m thinking, I will show you what my will is.” Isn’t that the most beautiful thing? That God promises that He’ll show us and help our minds to be transformed, to think a new way, to think heaven’s way and to really see the fruit of heaven and the results of heaven come to pass in our circumstances that this is the way to do it.

So an example of what this looked like in my life was realizing that, the account balance in my bank isn’t what dictates my life. But that’s how the world runs. Like if you have a lot of money, then you can have this, this and this. If you don’t have a lot of money, then this, this, and this is going to happen to you. And the Lord said to me, one day, “You know what, Lisa? If you will release your hold on what your bank account balance is, that you feel bad if it’s low, and you feel good if it’s high, and you’ll let me show you what money looks like, you will begin to know what my will is and your mind will be transformed.” And so that’s the same promise for you, my friend; is that as you follow these steps in this beautiful pathway in Romans 12:1-2, whatever you’re struggling with now does not have to be what you continue struggling with. As God shows you, what His will is, His beautiful and pleasing and perfect will in your life.

So Jesus, thank you that you are with this person that’s watching. You’re with each one of us and you don’t leave us where our thinking was, but you beautifully show us what heaven feels instead, and we get to go from glory to glory, and understand how you want to walk through life with us, seeing us as transformed into your image. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“If It Be Thy Will” Prayers

Most of us have been taught to pray “If it be thy will prayers”. This is to say that we don’t really know if it is God’s will, but if it is, so be it done. This appears to be the right way to pray as we don’t want anything that is not His will. However such prayers also mean that we really don’t know how to pray. Jesus knew He had to go to the Cross but prayed ” Not my will but thine be done”. This is not a if it be thy will prayer. It is a prayer to confirm that this is God’s will although it is a painful task ahead for Him. However many times we use this as an excuse to pray, if it be thy will.

How To Pray?

God has revealed in His Word how we ought to pray. We must pray with certainty for what we ask. We must demand that we have what we ask when we ask according to His will. This means we must know His will first. How do we know His will? We know His will through His written word and His Holy Spirit who confirms His word. Should we pray for healing? God’s will is that we all be healed and be prosperous.

In this fallen world we will be prone to sickness and poverty but this is not God’s will. God’s perfect will is that we are well and made whole. He allows sickness but this is not His perfect will. Should we pray that we marry a certain person? God desires that we marry and not be consumed by our sexual passions. He won’ want us to marry the wrong person who is an unbeliever. How can light walk with darkness?

God’s Will

We can know God’s will. Once we know His will then we are to pray with certainty and not waver. Some prayers are answered immediately, like in healing. Others have to be contended for till the answer is received. Stop praying, if it is thy will prayers once you know His will. We must wait in the Spirit till we know His will. We cannot understand God’s will through our mind. His Spirit will give us the answer in specific situations. Our mind will then understand.

When we begin to pray with conviction than we will begin to see more answers to our prayers. Let us to day ask and not doubt. God’s will is that we be whole as our soul prospers. Sickness is not God’s will. Jesus completed His work on the Cross so that we can be free from sickness and poverty. Let us believe this and glorify God. He is waiting to bless us. Are we ready to receive His blessing?

Does God Really Give The Desires Of Your Heart?

A spouse. A sports car. A house on the beach. A multi-million-dollar salary. What do these have in common? They are all wants I’ve heard fellow Christians contend God will provide because “He gives the desires of your heart.”

God’s promise here, found in Psalm 37:4, is an encouraging one. Yet far too many who stand on it for desires like the aforementioned remain in waiting. Consider the lifelong single man or woman who has craved companionship and intimacy for what seems like forever, yet still remains single. What do we make of this promise in his or her case? Will God come through, even in the midnight hour, to deliver a spouse? He might, but not because of their yearning.

Hear me out. I’m a Bible-promise guy. My book, Activating the Power of God’s Word, is all about declaring His promises over your life. But we must understand that doing so is not some magic solution to get all our wishes granted. Rather, we declare God’s promises to get our lives and wills into alignment with His truths.

The Real Truth

Here’s the real truth about Psalm 37:4 that you can count on.

Like almost all promises in God’s Word, this one too begins with a conditional statement: “Take delight in the Lord,” David instructs. In his next breath, he reveals the result of such delight: “and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

The first clue to understanding God’s intention is “delight.” It means, “satisfaction,” which itself is fully defined as “fulfillment of one’s wishes, expectations or needs.” In other words, the scripture says to find the fulfillment of your desires in the Lord—the person of God, made up of His characteristics of goodness, love, faithfulness and so on.

The second clue is “heart.” To be sure, it doesn’t mean feelings or fixations. No, in Hebrew, “heart” is the entirety of a person.

Put together, these clues reveal a depth to this promise, which far surpasses merely receiving everything you want. It’s this: when you fully find your satisfaction in who God is, then who you are is transformed more and more into His image. Consequently, the desires of your heart are received because they are met in God Himself.

The Source of Your Satisfaction

What does this mean then for you who yearn for a spouse? A nicer home? Or more money? Certainly, make your requests known to God; He absolutely enjoys blessing His people. But once you do, be careful not to live with your contentment hinged to receiving any blessing. Instead, live with your satisfaction in the One who is all sufficient—who truly completes you, who is your shelter and hiding place, who is the source of your worth.

From today forward, stand on the promise that who you are is fulfilled in who He is.

Temptation Is A Liar! There’s Always A Way Out!

Temptation. Everybody deals with it one way or another. But, did you know that even God had to deal with the enemy’s games?

More Than A Conqueror

High School. I remember being in High school and knowing that I wanted to be different and stick out from the rest. Not in an arrogant way, but just had a feeling that my life would look different. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Bone Cancer and was weirdly satisfied with the fact that it would be part of my story. You know, conquering the spirit of cancer and whatnot.

Battlefield

After beating treatment, I went back to high school and underestimated the battle between living in God’s presence and the enemy’s ways around me. God became the most real thing to me during treatment. But, transitioning into a new season, with people who hadn’t just experienced what I did was challenging. I guess you can say I had a humbling experience. A year went by and I felt alive again. My hair was growing back, and I was finding my confidence again.

Temptation Lies

This is when I hit a bump in my relationship with God. Temptation set in and alcohol, boys, and gossip were all a part of it. I gave in and got into a worldly relationship that took a major toll not only on my heart but also on my relationship with God. I turned to High school parties and toxic friendships to get me by. But, I say all of this to encourage somebody today who feels stuck. Someone who’s desperate for a way out of their circumstance.

A Way Out Of Temptation

You don’t have to stay there! Shame is the enemy’s tactic to get you to stay in the toxic, repetitive circle of your life! He is a liar! God wants to help you and in fact, He has a way out for you! In 1 Corinthians 10:13, it says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” There is always a way out! Temptation doesn’t have to rule your life. You’re capable of living your life powerfully and full of wisdom.

Your way out might look different than mine did. But, the good part is that both ways will end up right back at His feet.

God’s Will For Your Life Is Good! Have Faith in Him!

What is God’s will for your life? Better yet, have you figured out what your purpose is? These are questions that constantly get thrown at you. Especially at a really young age! The truth is, it’s okay not to have a specific answer as long you have faith that God will work it all out!

The Ultimate Source

It’s quite literally insane that a generation today is supposed to have their whole life planned out by the time they graduate high school. From college seminars to guidance counselors, you rely on these resources to help you figure out what your life should look like in 10 years. Emphasis on “should“. I Mind you, these things are great but why do this generation let people who they barely know influence their life goals in such a way? I propose the only source we need to dictate what we should do with our lives is Jesus Christ.

God’s Will Is Best, Have Faith!

From personal experience, I knew that I didn’t want fear to dictate my life. So, right out of Highschool I decided to go to a non-credited ministry school. Of course, everyone’s journey is different and there’s so much freedom in that. But, I went in faith that God wanted me there despite what everyone else was doing. Unsure of what I was getting myself into, I hoped He would meet me there. He did…and it’s still one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my 22 years of life.

Faith vs. Fear

I say all this because of a quote I read last week by Christine Caine, Australian Evangelist. She wrote, “So often, we are paralyzed by the fear of missing God’s will. We literally do not move because we are waiting for 10 confirmations. Here’s the deal, most times you are going to have to step out in faith, to find out if it’s God. God is big enough to redirect you if you’re wrong.” Truth is, you don’t know what God’s will is until you find the will to take a chance.

Goodness of God

Be encouraged today and know that whatever God’s will for your life is, it’s good. Let Him be your ultimate source, ultimate influence, and loudest voice. Remember, He’s big enough to redirect you! Happy Adventuring! “And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

His Plan Is Greater Than Our Plan, Just Breathe

The uncertainty, the fear, and the anxiety we feel during this time can be overpowering. In the county I live in we now have 8 cases of COVID-19. We don’t know, technically, which towns within the county the infected people reside, but nevertheless, our count went up over the weekend. This is the time that our trust in God gets shaken up and we lose sight of His plan.

“God, why can’t you cure this?”

“God, why are you allowing this to ravage through our world?”

It’s easy to ask God these questions. But to hear Him tell us how broken our world is… that’s hard, especially as Christians. We are trying so hard to change the world, share His word, yet we continue to see a world in chaos.

One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:11. No surprise, I know. The verse reads:

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (ESV)

His Plan

The Lord knows what He is doing. I’m asking you to trust in God. Trust in His plan. Don’t ask Him those questions. Those are questions that will give your anxiety a headstart because you’re worrying. Leave your anxieties with Him and embrace the freedom of knowing He is in control. It is okay to not know the future. We aren’t supposed to know the outcome of certain things or events. I mean, let’s be honest, if we did, we’d try to change it.

Take a deep breath. Keep pushing. God has a plan.

I can’t tell you what that plan is. I don’t know. But I can tell you that He wouldn’t just allow something to happen, good or bad, without a reason. Remember, it is His will, not ours. Live in peace knowing God would never do anything that would forsake or harm you.
