God’s Word For You Today: Stand On My Truth

Today’s Verses

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, ³²and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:13)

Today’s Message

The book of John is full of Jesus teaching the disciples about truth. We know that the word of God is our foundation and truth. We also know that Jesus is the word made into flesh–He is the truth dwelling in our midsts! Not only is the truth of God’s word what leads us morally and spiritually, but it is also what sets us apart as true disciples of Jesus. Anyone can decide to know the truth in their mind. But those who abide with it are in walking in intimacy with Him. The beautiful thing about God’s truth is it is not based on our own actions; it exists separate from us! When the circumstances of our lives seem shaky, we can put complete trust and faith in God’s truth. Standing on His word in this way not only empowers us as believers, it sets us apart. When the world witnesses bold believers bolstered to God’s truth, it becomes hungry for the same freedom. Today, decide to stand on even one promise from God’s word. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you a truth to believe, and commit to standing on it! Despite what anyone might say about you, choose to truth God’s voice above all others.

Say Yes To The Savior

Why would anyone sabotage themselves? The definition of Sabotage is: “ to deliberately destroy, damage, or obstruct (something), wreck, deliberately damage, vandalize, destroy, obstruct, disrupt, cripple, impair, incapacitate.” Why would anyone deliberately seek their own destruction? Guilt and shame from sin and failure. THAT is why. And THIS is the foundational reason WHY God sent us a Savior.

WE ALL NEED SAVING

We cannot save ourselves. I repeat – we cannot save ourselves. Without Jesus we stand guilty and we hang our heads in shame at our failures and sins. “For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its SAVIOR.” (John 3:16-17)

Most people have a particular thing that comes to mind if you were to ask them what is their biggest failure or biggest regret? It is that ugly green slime ball in the bottom corner of a dark, musty basement. It is something they hope will remedy itself or just go away. But they know it is ever present.

It can be something that was intentional, but it can also be something that was unintentional – either or can start an avalanche of consequences that threaten their very existence. The guilt and shame are too much. Sadly this happens more than anyone would care to admit – the guilt and shame together become a VERY loud voice. It is filled with actual truth, but also half truths AND lies. I visualize this as a sort of monster. It has to be big – bigger than you so that it overwhelms you. It has to be intimidating – so that it creates confusion and drama. It has to be tinged with actual truth so you can’t deny the guilt. Once you give a place to this, the rest goes down rather easily. You see your guilt – you feel the shame – you see the repercussions – you see the consequences – and it is just TOO much. From there, you are distracted away from the very reason WHY we were given the gift of a Savior.

SAVED BY GRACE

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

You see, Satan and his demons can NOT be saved; can find no redemption. His ultimate lie is to convince us that WE cannot be saved either. Then the self-sabotage begins. At this point, Satan has done his work. He presented to you your own failure/sin and the consequences you caused. Now he just leaves you to your own shame; the hell hole he just created for you to wallow in. Voila’. Self-sabotage/self-harm, and for some the hopeless choice of suicide.

If you finally can’t bear the weight of your own sin, where else is there to go?

I clearly remember the night I entertained all these thoughts – I have been saved since I was 4 years old, but in one night as I was presented with such a sly destructive presentation of my own traumas and failures, for a brief moment I took my eyes off my Savior. I remember finally collapsing into a hopeless ball, admitting that indeed I did not even deserve to go to Heaven. And looking back I absolutely KNOW that THAT was Satan’s goal – to reveal to me my guilt, to drown me in my shame, and then to kill me of my own free will as payment for my unworthiness. Whoa. I almost forgot my sin and shame (ALL of it) was paid for in FULL. I almost forgot I had a Savior.

Except that I didn’t. I didn’t forget.

ONLY JESUS

I got to the edge, but the reality of my Jesus became BIGGER than every truth and half truth and lie that I had heard. It finally became ONLY about Jesus and His saving grace for me. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Yes, I still see my failure – I still see the consequences of it – I still weep over it – I still don’t see a favorable outcome – I still am haunted by things I have no control over – I still often entertain the fear and trembling of never hearing “Well done” when I think I have not done well – but then I remind myself I needed a Savior and I have been given one! He came and saved me from myself. It’s by His grace that WE are saved. The free offer is for us ALL!

In order to stop self-sabotaging yourself and intentionally or unintentionally continuing to punish yourself, you need to have a one-on-one with your Savior. He took our punishment to become our Savior! Laying down everything broken and shattered, and saying NO to guilt, shame and self-sabotage – then saying YES to forgiveness, hope and a guilt-free future!

Jesus knows us fully and completely, and He loves us fully and completely.

Being Grounded In The Truth Of God

Hi, I would like to encourage you today with a truth about the truth. It’s important for us in a chaotic world where people are no longer defining the truth by the Bible, by the word of God, for us to be grounded.

I want to encourage you with a scripture. I have it here for you, it says in John 16:13, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, (talking about when the Holy Spirit comes), he will guide you into all truth…” I’m not sure if you have had situations like I have. I’m pretty sure you would have been confused at some point in your life. Just not sure how to go about a decision or a direction, and you’re you finding yourself in confusion. You find yourself totally baffled or not sure what to do. The Spirit of God can lead you into all truth, it’s just a matter of asking Him. So I encourage you today, ask Holy Spirit, “Please lead me into all truth,” just like Yeshua, Jesus has taught us to do.

Ten Reasons Why The Bible Is The Precondition For Truth

Jordan Peterson recently said, during a podcast with Joe Rogan, “It isn’t that the Bible is true. It’s that the Bible is the precondition for the manifestation of truth, which makes it way more true than just true. It’s a whole different kind of truth. And I think this is not only literally the case. Factually, I think it can’t be any other way. It’s the only way we can solve the problem of perception.”

This comes on the heels of the news that famous Christian Rap artist/apologist Brady “Phanatik” Goodwin renounced his faith because he said that he no longer believed the Scriptures.

In my opinion, the greatest proof of the Bible is the impossibility of the contrary. Without the truths that scripture puts forth, there is no rational understanding for meaning in the world today. Without the framework of the Bible, the perceived reality of this world collapses down to irrationality. For instance, there’s no explanation for intelligent design of the cosmos, categories, grammar, mathematics, language, names, natural law, physics, or gravity.

The following are ten reasons why the Bible is the precondition for all truth:

1. The Bible explains the beginning of all things.

There is still no scientific explanation for the beginning of the cosmos that excludes the supernatural or intelligent design. Even the so-called “Big Bang” needed a catalytic source to generate the energy required to eventuate the universe. Genesis 1:1 is still the most logical explanation for the beginning and existence of all things.

2. The Bible explains what went wrong in the world.

Everybody knows that there is something wrong in the past that interferes with our hope for an ideal world. Whether it be natural catastrophes caused by earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, or the evil exhibited by humanity against one another as seen in wars and violent crime, or the brutality of the animal kingdom as seen in predatory species, we all know there is something wrong. The so-called Darwinian “survival of the fittest” cannot comprehensively account for evil and environmental volatility. The account of the fall of humanity in Genesis 3 gives us the most precise and reasonable explanation of how evil entered the world and negatively impacted every aspect of existence (Jeremiah 17:9, Romans 3:23).

3. The Bible explains the solution for our fallen world.

The Bible teaches us that since through man sin entered the world, and death through sin, it would take a sinless man to take humanity’s place to remove sin and heal our brokenness (Romans 5:12-19, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 2:14-18).

4. The Bible explains the consummation of human history.

The Bible teaches us that, although humanity started in a garden, the redeemed will end up in a city (Genesis 2, Revelation 21-22). Furthermore, the consummation of the cosmos will end up with everything being identified with and aligned with Jesus the Messiah (Ephesians 1:9-11).

5. The Bible attests to things that are experienced by billions of Believers.

Can the consistent testimony of over a billion Christ-followers living today, all independent of one another, be wrong? Can the multiple billions of Christians who have lived the past two millennia all be wrong? They all speak of the reality of God’s work and operation in and through them in their everyday life (Hebrews 12:1-2).

6. The Bible attests to the resurrection of Christ.

To this day, Jesus’s body has never been found by the Jewish leaders and Roman soldiers who desperately searched for it. Who moved the stone in front of the empty tomb? What gave the cowardly disciples boldness to preach and start a global movement that is still sustained today? Furthermore, how can billions of Christians bear witness to the reality of the sacred text and His resurrection for over two thousand years? Many atheists, agnostics, and skeptics have tried to disprove the resurrection of Christ. Nobody has succeeded.

7. The Bible attests to the reality of the Holy Spirit, answers to prayer, and miracles.

The Bible speaks about the ability of true believers to receive supernatural answers to prayer, miracles, healings, and prophetic words (John 14:12-14, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11). The testimony of billions of Christians, including myself, of supernatural answers to prayers is common among the faithful. This vast consensus flies in the face of natural phenomenological law. It has no explanation except to conclude that there is a supernatural transcendent God who is personally involved in the affairs of believers (Hebrews 11:6).

8. The Bible attests to being born again from above.

Christianity is the only so-called religion you cannot convert to unless you have a supernatural encounter with God. All other major religions have to observe forms, rituals, laws, and more. However, Jesus said that unless one is born from above, He cannot see His Kingdom (John 3:1-8).

9. The Bible attests to the moral law of God.

As found in Exodus 20, the Ten Commandments is the only moral code that enables nations and individuals to be blessed if they follow it. For example, imagine a world in which everybody put God first, set aside one day in seven to be with their family and worship God, did not commit murder, did not commit adultery, did not steal or covet their neighbor’s goods. If every person consistently attempted to obey this divine moral code, the world would become a utopia. However, imagine a world in which everybody intentionally (outwardly, not just in their heart)

disobeyed these Commandments. The world as we know it would soon collapse in its foolishness and sin!

10. The Bible is one cohesive unit with the metanarrative pointing to Jesus.

The Bible was written by about 40 authors, over 1600 years from people living in various geographic regions with diverse economic backgrounds. Despite all this diversity, the Scriptures cohere with each other with a meta-narrative that points to Jesus the Messiah. The comprehensive, coherence, and consistency of the Scriptures all point to the fact that it is a divinely inspired book.

Learning To Crush My Fears

Do you realize that every day you leave your house, you are taking a risk with your life? It isn’t just that you could catch a deadly disease if someone coughs on you, or another car could side swipe you on the driver’s side, you COULD get killed crossing the road in front of your house just checking your mail. In fact, I fell IN my house, in my own bathroom, missing slamming my head on three different hard surfaces in front of me by mere inches. I could have died on my own bathroom floor! Point being, living is risky business. Whether I let my fears be my driving force or not is what determines the quality of my LIVING!

FEAR IS A LIAR

To be afraid is a controlling emotion caused by feeling SURE that something (or someone) is a threat in some way, or will cause pain or even be dangerous. Another thing to keep in mind – fear is a LIAR!

Fear he is a liar.
He will rob your rest,
Steal your happiness,
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar.”

I realize my ability to emotionally grow up was stunted – stunted means to be prevented from growing or developing to full potential.Until you finally face your fears born from abuse or injustice, you can emotionally remain at the age when it occurred. I feel like I never completely grew up until, wow – last year. Yikes. In some parts of me it feels like I was 15 for 50 years. So guess what – as I have been healing I have revisited ALL those desolate, barren, scary places. I did NOT realize I just needed to call them out, identify them and crush them.

CRUSHING FEARS

As I have revisited the various stages of my life lying dormant, it has indeed felt like I picked up where I left off. I could see where I had never fully progressed emotionally. I now understand why I have adversely reacted or responded in some of the ways I did. The crazy makes sense. Fear was implanted in me at a very young life – so young that indeed, it became a part of me I never invited to stay. For instance, when the fearful child in me resurfaced (only long enough for me to call it out and deal with it) I had reactions to other people as if I WAS that fearful child again. If someone dominated over me back then, I felt it again – certain personalities triggered my fear. I felt cornered, threatened even by people who would never do me any harm. Make any sense? I really thought I was losing my mind ever so slightly. NOW I get it. Just those triggers that I am now guessing I will keep experiencing all the way till the end of my healing journey. The thing is, they come when they want to – out of nowhere, triggered by something from the past.

With each trigger I identify and call out, the stronger and more alert I become. Fear loses its grip on me. Darkness has to run for cover! Oh yeah! The fearful child and beaten down teenager finally gets to stand up and grow ALL the way up. I know now that I can’t hope to help anyone else until I can help myself. I need to solve my own mysteries, unlock ALL the doors, uncover my own skeletons in the basement, look my demons square in the face and let the healing waters rain over me. I have lived one minute too long being controlled and manipulated by fear.

FIGHT FEAR WITH TRUTH

What decimates fear? TRUTH. I must drop ‘truth bombs’ on the fears which translate into lies, every time they raise their ugly head – which sometimes is every single day. Maybe that is why God said we should hide His words in our heart – His words are truth, sharp as swords so like a weapon to fight with.

Ah, so when Satan whispers I shouldn’t have ever been born , then he gets THIS response back from me – “The Lord called me before I was born, while I was in my mother’s womb He named me. He made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of His hand He hid me; He made me a polished arrow, in His quiver He hid me away” (Isaiah 49:1-2). TRUTH bomb dropped dead on the lie – BAM! Decimated! I am emboldened by the thought that God knew my name before I was named. And the fear has to GO!

EMOTIONAL TRIGGERS

These little triggers of fear remind me of spiders. I am scared of spiders. I do NOT like spiders, and don’t try to tell me – oh, it is just a tiny one. Nope. A spider IS a spider. All the fearful ‘what ifs’ about spiders. (insert a shudder.) Currently living out in the country – guess what. LOTS of spiders. I stay on ‘spider alert duty’. Crush. Kill. Destroy. The mighty shaking in her boots spider warrior! So, I can forever be traumatized by their lurking presence in the corners, just out of sight. Or – I can search them out and crush them! But also I can almost sort of co-exist with some of them. They are NOT going away, right? A spider is always about 8 inches from each of us, at all times. Sorry to tell you that fact if you were not aware of it. Maybe we could look at emotional triggers that way? I can search them out – and then destroy them, as I am able. And for some other things, it is just life. They are just going to be there and I have to deal with it.

We may just need to hit pause, step back, and take a deep breath – call a spade a spade, and walk on. Rise up and activate your own strength. Remember, at the end of the day you will ALWAYS be bigger than any spider – even the biggest and baddest because, “Greater is He that is in YOU than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)

The Truth Separates From The Lies

What is truth? Pilate asked this question of Jesus. Jesus said I am the truth. Truth is greater than facts. Facts maybe right but they are not the truth. This is why many get confused. Most people think facts are the truth. This is how the world operates. The justice system operates on facts. Facts appear to be the truth till the facts are challenged in the court of law. The devil likes to copy the truth. This is the way he leads people away from the truth. We see a lot of things that are a copy of the original. So also our lives can copy good behaviour but that is not the truth. Many follow a guru or spiritual leader but fail to discern the truth. In this world we will be challenged by forms of truth that are not the truth.

Knowledge

Only Jesus said I am the truth. He did not talk about the truth. This is the big difference. Many talk about the truth but don’t know the truth. Truth is a person. In Him truth is absolute. To have Him is to have the truth. His life in me is the truth. Now I can walk in the truth. Knowing about a person is not the same as knowing the person. Many know a lot about a person but don’t know the person. What a sad state this is. Jesus said he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life. This is the life He imparts to us when we believe. Without Him we are just following a form of truth but not the truth.

Eternal Life

Life is a journey and we all go through phases till we come to know the truth. Once we know the truth then nothing can take us away. This is how things were with the first disciples. The first disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and with fire. They did not think about their life but gave all to Him. They received the truth as a personal experience not just knowledge of the truth. Before the Holy Spirit came they knew Jesus as someone outside them. Now they knew Him as abiding in them. This is what God desires for each of us. He wants to come and reside within us. In this way we have the truth within us. This is life and eternal life. Jesus said he who believes in me has eternal life. Come and be saved by the truth and be saved.

Truth Overrides Facts – A Testimony Of God’s Intervention

Lesa’s son, Brandon was a drug addict, but she refused to stop trusting God for his deliverance. In the process she learned that when it comes to God, truth overrides facts.

“The truth (what God says about a situation or a condition) overrides the facts!” says Kris Valloton of Bethel Church, Redding, CA. This is not just a powerful statement it is truth. I was reminded of this again recently when the following post from July 2012, came through my Facebook memories feed.

In my own life, I’ve had to use the truth against both the lies of the enemy and also the factual circumstances opposing me. I know from personal experience this is not always easy. It requires effort and faith! I shared in an earlier post for GOD TV Hope Remains about our son Brandon’s heroin addiction and how hopeless it looked. He had literally become a shell of his former self and had overdosed several times!

But, finally after a long losing battle with addiction, Brandon, (with his probation officer’s permission) entered a regeneration program at Dunklin Memorial Camp in Okeechobee, FL. This was something we’d been praying and pushing for during the past few years. At last, he was there. He was safe. He was clean.

Breakthrough! We were rejoicing over the positive changes we were seeing in our son in only four weeks. And then… his probation officer violated him and he was arrested and extradited to another county to await trial. To say that I was devastated would be an understatement. But God is so merciful and filled with tender kindness, while even in my heartache and crying out Why? Why now? Abba sent us the scripture from Jeremiah 29:11-14. I was well familiar with verse 11, but as I was reading I felt Him prod me to continue down the page:

A promise from God

” ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord ‘I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land’.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

I felt the Father was promising me that not only did He have a plan for my son, He was going to bring him out of captivity. I grabbed onto this word and hid it in my heart. It was certainly tested over the next several weeks.

Meanwhile, (During the time of the above post), Brandon was back in jail, awaiting trial on 13 violations and was promised a prison sentence this time around. When he would speak to me on the phone, he tried to prepare me, “Mom, you need to prepare yourself, the Public Defender is saying it doesn’t look good. I’m probably going away for seven years, maybe 15.”

I knew what the judge overseeing his case had promised him. I also knew what I felt God had promised me. Even with fear trying to grip my heart and doubt knocking loudly, I responded, “I can’t hear that, son. I cannot receive that. I am believing for a miracle.”

Truth overrides facts

Long story shortened, for the sake of this blog, our day came in court and Brandon was given a 7-year prison sentence, but God influenced the judge to suspend it in lieu of him returning to Dunklin and completing the program, house arrest and terms of the 5-year probation followed it with fines. Any failure to comply would have lifted the suspension and the seven years would have had to be served behind bars! God knew what He was doing and whom the Son sets free is free indeed!

This summer when the post came through my feed marked seven years! Instead of prison Brandon was home with his wife Julie, building their family, relationship with God and serving in ministry both here and around the world!

We don’t just use the truth against lies, we also use it against fact! The fact is our son may have deserved prison but the truth is God’s mercies are new every morning!

The fact may be that your son or daughter is an addict, but the truth is whom the Son sets free is free indeed!

The fact may be that you have cancer but the truth is by HIS stripes we were healed!

The fact may be that your bank account and cupboards are empty but the truth is God is Jehovah Jireh – the God who provides.

The truth is, God is filled with compassion towards us, toward you. Hold onto the promise of His word and the promise He has given you. Use that truth not only against the lies the enemy throws at you but also facts. Truth trumps… outweighs… overrides facts!

Faith vs. Feeling

There is an American socio-political commentator named Ben Shapiro. He debates on TV panels about several social issues in the USA and he has a phrase that has made him popular. When arguing, the moment the other person gets angry or emotional, he says, “Facts don’t care about your feelings.”

A fact is a fact. How it affects your emotions doesn’t change a fact. That is the way, we must view the Word of God. As facts of faith, which don’t change inspite of what we see and feel. That is why God keeps repeating the fact that He is faithful and covenant-keeping and that means what He says He will do, He will do.

His faithfulness and trustworthiness is repeated so many times, why? Because it is of utmost importance, that you go by what He has said, not what you feel or see.

Adam & Eve

Let’s look at the first sin. God said clearly not to eat the fruit or they would die. That should have been fact to Eve. Not debatable, based on sight, feeling or the devil’s word. She questioned the sincerity of God. She questioned God’s Word and trustworthiness and essential said He was lying

Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”

Romans 3:4 says, “Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar.”

We must ask for the grace of Jesus Christ to see God’s Word as fact, and His promises of Fatherhood to you as fact. No matter what you feel! Because when all around you is sinking ground and you feel alone and desperate the evil one will come and question your trust in God.

His Facts

Never go by feeling, go by His Word or His facts. When we become born again, we get a feeling of happiness and fire, but we must quickly move from that as sign of salvation. Whether you feel it or not salvation is not a feeling it’s a decision to trust that Jesus Christ is Lord and Messiah. It is important to understand the Word so that in seasons when you don’t feel like praying or reading your Bible, you don’t give up and doubt your salvation. But you decide to push through and read the Bible and pray despite your feelings.

Feelings are not a gauge for how deeply we worshipped. That feeling of excitement you get at a worship concert, can also be felt at a Beyonce concert, yet there is no anointing in the worship, it leaves no impact. You get excited at a church service, but during the week your joy and hope is gone. That is not an impact, that is excitement, feelings led Christianity!

Faith versus feeling, means even when your finances, your career, your health, your marriage are under pressure from every side…Even when your spouse is not helping build the marriage…Even when your in-laws are causing problems for you…

You stand and declare His word. His fact.

“I lift up my eyes unto the hills from where shall my help come from? My help comes from the Lord the Maker of Heaven and Earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2)

“The Lord is my Light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1)

Faith vs Feeling

How do you get faith? Faith comes by reading and hearing the Word of God. The Bible is God’s fact book!
